Art of Camrose
Dwayne Schweitzer Dwayne Schweitzer is a digital artist, meaning that all of his creations are done via a computer. He first started out with a friend giving him an early version of Photoshop. He started out doing photo manipulations and he has never looked back. He now calls Camrose home. He has been creating his art for about seven years now. He has been a member to the Battle River Art Club and is currently a member of the Mirror Lake Art Club. The various pieces that he has made have ranged from animal portraits to landscapes pieces. He really is not set in one genre. Experimentation in the arts is endless and the possibilities are only limited to only ones imagination. You can view his work at dreamerskreation.deviantart.com/gallery/ or facebook him at: facebook.com/dwayne.schweitzer dreamerskreationstudio.wordpress.com

Jim Brager One of the reasons I paint landscapes is to stay connect with the outdoors. I grew up in the country and the country is in my blood. My camera is part of my tools as I collect ideas and with thumbnail sketches I plan composition and value arrangements.
I am primarily a studio painter as I find it is essential to be in control of the drying process. I try to keep in mind three primary objectives in my painting. Simplicity, dominance and contrasts, for me it is important to simplify shapes and not be concerned with detail within the shapes in the early stages of the painting. I ignore what doesn’t contribute to the picture and I emphasize what does. Secondly I keep in mind a dominance of shapes for size and value. Thirdly I like to contrast the elements of design such as color temperature, e.g. warm and cool within each shape, contrasting value such as light against darks, contrasts of hard and soft edges. Finally contrast of intense color with muted colors. Too many colors tend to cancel each other out.

Art of Camrose The western Canadian landscape remains my subject of choice and while I enjoy painting locations from my travels abroad and elsewhere, I inevitably returned to my prairie roots for my inspiration. To be an artist you have to be prepared to be a student all your life.

Diane McLaren I have been involved in various forms of art my whole life so I’ve taken numerous art workshops over the years. My minor in University was art and I have attended six Summer Series one week Courses at Red Deer College. For the last 3 years I’ve been learning sculpture from Sharon Moore Foster, a fabulous professional sculpture from the St. Albert area. I started out my adventures in clay about 20 years ago when I began working in ceramics. Ceramics taught me so much about glazes and finishing techniques. Then I moved into hand building and throwing functional pottery on the wheel because I want to create my own objects to paint on. I still have fun with hand building and occasionally teaching clay classes for the Chuck MacLean Art’s Centre but figure sculpting is really my passion. It is exhilarating to watch a block of clay take on life and movement as the figure emerges. Sculpting has given me an appreciation for the beauty which can be found in all body shapes and types. I create my sculptures using three different cone six clays. Then I fire them and finish with a variety of mediums. I’m interested in connecting with other sculptors in the Camrose area. Check out my website at artnaturescapes.weebly.com to view more samples of my work. 40

Rita Sherman I live in
My name is Rita Sherman, and I’m very excited about trying a new venture. As an MS patient, every day is an adventure and carrying my camera with me is routine. It is part of me, the best therapy in the world, and good incentive to keep trying to improve myself. I’ve been privileged to have been a part of the Camrose Art Walk for three consecutive years. I have worked at the Farmer’s Market in the Mall for two years and was part of their Camera Club until my elderly parents (back in B.C.), needed too much of my time for me to stay committed to a membership. I’ve had one of my pieces showcased at the “Art Box” Gallery in Calgary, where it sold. Mostly, I just love what I see through the view-finder, which I’ve only been doing for four years now. I had a different career before that, (piano-teaching), but sometimes we get sent down a different path due to circumstances beyond our control, so down the path we roll, enjoying the trip as we go. I live in Gwynne, Alberta and you can find some of my photo-collection on flickr.com. Once you’re on the website, go to ritaspics2 and that is where I’ll be. I was also invited to post on the “Northern California” web-site, which I do from time to time. E-mail me at rsherman@xplornet.com 47

Celestine (Sally ) McIntyre I have always had a passion design and colour so drawing and painting drew me to take some classes during my training at the University of Saskatchewan. I worked on pieces from time to time throughout my teaching career but began to do a lot more once I retired. I have taken many workshops over the years and experimented with many different media. There always seems to be something new to learn and enjoy. My most recent work is done in pastel and features mainly trees in the landscape. I work in a somewhat stylized manner which I find very enjoyable and rewarding. I love the colour possibilities using pastel and find working on black paper produces a striking contrast in my subject .
