Art of Camrose
Tara Szott- a Camrose artist whose path in the fine arts has led her to a unique expression of mood and color through acrylic and mixed media. She has explored numerous forms of art and craft: painting in acrylic, watercolor, oils, sculpture and pottery. However, it has been acrylic paints that have captured her interest and dominate her work. Born in British Columbia, Tara spent her childhood in the enchantment of the mountains. After moving to Alberta 21 years ago, Tara finds inspiration in the ever-changing landscape of the prairies. Nature, wildlife, flora and fauna are the main subjects that fill her canvases ranging from traditional realism to modern abstract.. Tara is currently working on a series of Modern Abstract Florals in vibrant colors and strong textures. Although Tara has been painting since childhood, it has only been recently that she is able to focus on her love of art full time. Whether her time is spent in her studio at home, volunteering art demonstrations at long term care facilities and schools or teaching art classes to both adults and children, she finds nothing more enjoyable and inspiring. www.ourartwork.net

Jayson D. Ambrose “I create an image while Mother Nature provides the pallet of colors and mosaics within the stone.”” – Jayson D. Ambrose My name is Jayson D. Ambrose and I'm a self-taught artist with over 30 years of experience. Although I’m originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, I currently reside near Camrose in Alberta. Sculpting in stone first started over 30 years ago for me. It was during an elementary school field trip to a museum, where we were given a small piece of soapstone and a few tools to play with. I don’t recall what I made that day, but I did go home and carved a canoe out of my dad's soap-on-a-rope. He wasn't too impressed with just having a rope hanging there. My sculptures are influenced by my childhood memories, life experiences, mother nature, a blend of my cultural heritage (Irish, French, and Cree), and by the stone itself. I prefer using basic hand tools while carving, rarely relying on power tools. It’s this hands-on approach that gives me a personal connection and appreciation for what Mother Nature has provided. It’s an honor and blessing to bring out the hidden treasure of colors and mosaics within the stone and I want others to experience this beauty through my carvings. I'm also teaching soapstone sculpting classes at the Chuck MacLean Arts Centre in Camrose, AB.Jayson Ambrose www.ourartwork.net 39

Art of Camrose
Mindy Marshall Fourteen years ago I came to Camrose to raise my family. Two years ago I picked up a brush and began to paint what I found here. It came naturally. Having no formal training, I relied on the colours and textures to guide the flow of each piece. I took my inspiration, at first, from the quiet pasture outside my window. Being anaphylactic, I could not physically experience the soft beauty of the farm, but I could paint it. I was taught by my parents at a young age to look at the world not with my eyes, but with my heart. A valuable lesson I could now apply. I prefer to paint an underlying feeling of a moment, which tends to make my artwork more organic and less technical. I am not limited to any particular style. My work grows with me. Each piece inspiring and strengthening the next. I like to paint my internal interpretation of the world around me. I believe each work as a rightful owner. Someone, so moved, that they have to have a particular piece as much as I needed to paint it. Several of my paintings have found homes with individuals in Edmonton, Vancouver and various places in Ontario. I would like to share with the community that has inspired me some of my favourite pieces. artistatwork.marshall@gmail.com 59
