BEST OF MUSIC

Two full programs of our best music

artistic director’s welcome

The 18/19 Concert Season is Art of Time Ensemble’s 20th. It’s been two decades of play, performance, exploration, and entertainment. I’m incredibly grateful for what we’ve built. In celebration of this milestone, we’re doing something new. We’re diving deeper into the work by reviving our favourite and most celebrated pieces, and reflecting on some of our most memorable performances. Three of the programs in this season’s offerings bring you our very best; in dance, music, and theatre or poetry. Despite an effort to neatly package each genre, music is, and will always be the touchstone, and will be at the heart of every program. I hope you’ll celebrate 20 years of music and dance, music and literature, music and theatre, music and music, and music, and music, with us.

BEST WOR OF MUS DS& IC

Theatre, poetry, and lyric are the focus of this assemblage of our finest pairings of words and music. Scenes from Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing are presented alongside music by Erich Korngold, and Ophelia’s Mad Scene from Hamlet, directed by Ravi Jain, is paired with lieder performed by soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian. Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt perform excerpts from their smash hit 2 Pianos 4 Hands, Margaret Atwood’s series of poems Thriller Suite is performed by Fiona Reid and set to original music, and Martha Burns, Rick Roberts, and Gregory Hoskins give performances that breach the boundaries between poetry, music, and theatre.
