Letter from our Executive Director
W
elcome to the 2017 Summer Session at the Community School of Music and Arts! Summer is one of our favorite times of year at CSMA. The school is full of creativity, laughter and fun in our art camps and music workshops. This summer, we are proud to announce some exciting new additions to our line-up of camps, classes and music workshops. - The Summer Strings Institute (pg. 22) for advanced strings players will give students a conservatory-like experience to learn and practice their craft alongside members of the San Francisco Symphony. - Our new Jazz Saxophone Sectional (pg. 28) for intermediate sax players will be a fun way to learn more about horns and their contribution to jazz ensembles.
- Our new Design for Print class (pg. 18) will give both traditional and digital artists the opportunity to create their own patterns and designs to be printed on fabric, wrapping paper and more. We’re certain that whatever your artistic passion, we have an opportunity for you to explore it here at CSMA. We hope that you and your family will join us this summer for a creative adventure! We are committed to making the arts accessible to every student in our community and offer a generous financial aid program. To learn how to begin our simple financial aid process, please see page 4 of this catalog. On behalf of CSMA’s staff, faculty, and Board of Directors, thank you for being a part of our community, for supporting our programs and for believing in the power of the arts! Sincerely,
Vickie Scott Grove Executive Director

“I have worked many years as an early childhood educator and I weave music into my daily curriculum. My background allows me to bring a unique teaching style to my classes, incorporating singing with guitar, musical games, movement and exploration of rhythm instruments.”
“I have a background in music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I have taught music and movement to young children for several years and also have a thorough knowledge of brass instruments and music theory. I enjoy exposing young children to the joys of music making!”
Lena Boot
“My passion is working with preschool-age children, giving them opportunities to be creative in art. In the style of Reggio Emelia, I provide a creative art environment that gives children the opportunity to observe, inquire, explore and use fine motor and cognitive skills. Art provides them with an awareness of themselves and their surroundings.”
Ximena Vilela
“I love encouraging preschool age children to find their own creative individuality through hands on and motor skills experience. I graduated with an AA degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise and have been teaching art to preschoolers for 2 years. I am currently studying for my child development certificate.”
