Jori Finkel, Los Angeles art critic and contributor to The New York Times and former Senior Editor of Art + Auction, brings her popular collecting workshop - described by previous participants as "eye-opening" and "highly informative"- to San Diego for the first time. It's the art world equivalent to fantasy football. With Jori acting as coach, you can spend up to $50,000 (of play money, sorry!) on works from the fair to assemble your own visionary collection. Murphy Fine Art Films presents Scribble.08, a documentary film inspired by the art movement of southern California. Directed by author, artist, designer, Mark Murphy / produced by Ten Stories and Ninthlink, this 48-minute film features interviews with 8 significant artists of our time: Rob & Christian Clayton, Martha Rich, Jeff Soto, Joe Sorren, Tim Biskup, Camille Rose Garcia and Kevin Christy. The film chronicles the growth of these talented artists and, through candid interviews, relays compelling stories of their obstacles, triumphs and sources of inspiration.

Murphy Fine Art Films presents Scribble No.2 which will feature: Shawn Barber, Kelsey Brookes, Victor Castillo, Matt Furie, James Jean, Souther Salazar, Mark Todd, Esther Pearl Watson, Martin Wittfooth, Megan Whitmarsh and Justin Wood. The second film will feature artists working in their studios, installing work in galleries, drawing, painting and openly discussing their work, inspirational points of view and how it all began.
4 pm – 5 pm: POETICS OF COLOR: NATVAR BHAVSAR
The documentary Poetics of Color examines issues of aesthetics in the context of globalization. It is an exploration of the life and work of the Indian-born artist Natvar Bhavsar. Raised in a small town in India, Bhavsar journeyed to New York City, the very nerve center of the art world in the early 60s. Upon arrival, Natvar quickly immersed himself in the city's thriving art scene befriending such artistic luminaries as Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman and Clyfford Still. Bhavsar extended the language of the Color Field School through his unique methodology of sifting pure pigment granules onto canvas. Today he is recognized as one of the greatest colorists in the arena of Abstract Expressionism.

Peter Fetterman will discuss the fundamentals of fine art photography such as, the differences of printing types, the facts about editioning, the history of the photography market, what creates the value of a photograph and the current “blue chip” photographers. Fetterman, born in London, has been deeply involved in the medium of photography for over 30 years. Initially a filmmaker and collector, he set up his first gallery over 20 years ago. often utilized the technology of thin deposition of vaporized metal films. Bell's work has evolved in a number of directions beginning with constructions, glass boxes, and standing wall glass panel sculptures. Bell exhibits extensively in museums and galleries internationally and nationally, has been awarded numerous public art commissions, was the recipient of the NM Governor's Award for Excellence and Achievement in the Arts, 1990, and is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Musee d'Art Contemporaneo, Lyon, France, Tate, London, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Progressive Insurance Corporation, Myers Development Co., among many others.
