WELCOME TO A NEW SEASON!
It’s a new “year” here at the Arts Center, and one of the most glorious times to be on Hilton Head Island! For those of you who don’t know, September heralds our dazzling new year and season! It’s also the season of Crescendo, the town's annual arts and cultural festival held during October. (see page 24 for more information on all the festivities)!
We are kicking off our theatrical season with the hysterical musical-comedy Something Rotten! We are so thrilled to produce this musical – it’s a big, splashy show full of tap-dancing and amazing music, guaranteed to make you laugh, and who doesn’t need that right about now?
A reminder to those who know, and a note of interest to those who don’t, what we do at the Arts Center isn’t bringing in theatrical productions, rather it’s producing them … that includes casting actors in New York City, imagining and building the sets, designing costumes and lighting, hiring the director, choreographer, and musical director, housing the actors and creative team on our beautiful island, rehearsing, and then finally offering you the magic of theatre you witness on our stage!
So much goes into each show before the curtain rises! We hope you’ll keep that in mind as you join us for all of our five productions in our 24-25 Theater Series. After our season opener, we have the beloved musical 42nd Street; in February, it’s a comedic farce, fresh off a Broadway
run, The Cottage; then, in spring, get ready for the heartwarming musical Waitress; and for summer, disco fever is in the air with Summer: The Donna Summer Musical!
Interspersed amid our productions are a sprinkling of world-class presenting artists, outreach programs, and festivals, and yearround educational offerings. In essence, we always have something going on here at the Arts Center! We hope you’ll join our email list, follow us on social media, and frequent our website – artshhi.com – to continually stay up-to-date on everything going on!
We are delighted that you’re here to experience one of our region’s greatest cultural treasures … the award-winning Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU BACK “ALL SEASON LONG!”

SENSATIONAL MUSICAL - COMEDY
THAT'S ANYTHING BUT ...
Kicking off the Arts Center’s blockbuster 24-25 season is the hilarious and wildly entertaining hit musical, Something Rotten, running September 25 – October 27.
This big, boisterous taphappy musical is one of the wittiest shows ever written. The comedy, which is packed with musical theatre references and show-stopping moments, is directed by Whitaker Gannon, who also was at the helm of last year’s season opener Clue, as well as Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, Little Shop of Horrors, and Red.
The stage is set for a riotous journey back to the Renaissance, where two struggling playwright brothers, Nick (Drake Leach) and Nigel Bottom (Chris Graham) find themselves in the shadow of the illustrious William Shakespeare (John Alejandro Jeffords). But wait! This isn’t your usual Shakespeare fare … trust us on this!
Shakespeare, in this history-twisting tale, is clad in skin-tight red leather bringing sexy rock star swagger, while the ladies swoon over his … um, sonnets. Meanwhile, the Bottom brothers crave their own writing acclaim, the Bard be damned.
Desperate to break free from Shakespeare's overwhelming success, Nick seeks the help of a soothsayer, Nostradamus (Francis Kelly), in hopes of predicting the future of theatre, giving Nick a jolt of inspiration.
Nostradamus, however, was a bit... off. His predictions, it turns out, are hysterically inaccurate, leading Nick and Nigel down a chaotic path of mishaps and misadventures. What he does accurately foretell is that the future of theatre will involve singing, dancing, and acting all at the same time! With this newfound intel, Nick then sets out to create the world's first musical!
But amidst the scandalous excitement of creating their show, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self… and all that jazz. With its heart on its ruffled sleeve and sequins in its soul, Something Rotten is an uproarious dose of pure Broadway fun and an irresistible ode to musicals.
Tickets may be purchased by visiting the website at tickets.artshhi.com or by calling (843) 842-ARTS (2787).
OUR BLOCKBUSTER 2024-2025
We’re delighted to announce our amazing, new Theater Season, running from September 2024 – August 2025. It’s an outstanding line-up of Broadway hits, featuring four epic musicals and a delightfully comedic play.
Fall kicks off the Arts Center’s “new year” with the hilarious musical SOMETHING ROTTEN (September 25 – October 27) directed by Whitaker Gannon. This history-twisting tale blends current-day Broadway references with a reimagined Renaissance, and follows two struggling playwright brothers, Nick and Nigel Bottom, in the shadow of the illustrious William Shakespeare who’s a leather-clad sex symbol! Desperate to break
free from Shakespeare and his swoon-worthy stardom, Nick seeks the help of a soothsayer, Nostradamus, to predict the future of theatre.
Nostradamus, however, was a bit... off. His predictions are riotously inaccurate, leading Nick and Nigel down a chaotic path of mishaps and misadventures. They stumbled upon the concept of musicals, believing it to be the next big thing, and set out to create the world's very first!
The holiday timeslot brings the beloved musical-classic, 42ND STREET, (December 4 - 29) directed by David Grindrod. Set in the 1930s, aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer comes to the big city and soon lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show. Can she make it in the big city? Songs like "We're in the Money," "Lullaby of Broadway," and "Shuffle Off to Buffalo" make this show a family-friendly favorite for all ages.
JAN 29 – FEB 23
Our winter production is a side-splitting comedic farce, THE COTTAGE (January 29 – February 23, 2025), directed by Blake White. Fresh off a successful Broadway run in 2023 starring Laura Bell Bundy and Eric McCormack, The Cottage is a brand-new romp written by awardwinning playwright Sandy Rustin (Clue).
A Carolinas' premiere, this ridiculously funny romantic comedy calls into question fate and faith, identity and infidelity, and love and marriage as a surprising and riotous web of secrets unravels. The Cottage is hilarious from start to finish, with a few scandalous – and even murderous - plot twists!
APR 23 – JUN 1
WAITRESS (April 23 – June 1, 2025) is our heartwarming spring production, directed by Tara Jeanne Vallee. This Tony Awardwinning musical follows Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker, who is stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest offers her a chance at escape, Jenna must weigh her commitments against a rare shot at freedom. Her friends all offer her conflicting recipes for happiness, but Jenna must ultimately decide for herself. Featuring music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winner Sara Bareilles, Waitress celebrates dreams, the family we choose, and the beauty of a well-baked pie.
JUL 9 – AUG 17
The summer season brings the dazzle of disco to the Arts Center stage with the production of SUMMER: THE DONNA SUMMER MUSICAL (July 9 – August 17, 2025), directed by Patdro Harris.
A Boston girl with a voice from heaven, Donna Summer soared to the stars from her beginnings in her church gospel choir to the pinnacle of fame as a dance floor diva. The Summer score features more than twenty classic hits including “Love to Love You Baby,” “White Boys,” “MacArthur Park,” “Bad Girls,” “She Works Hard for the Money,” and “Hot Stuff,” to name a few. Summer is an electric experience and a moving tribute to the Queen of Disco.
Interspersed amid these five productions –created from cast to curtain – are world-class presenting artists, educational programs for all ages, and free community festivals, comprising another wonderful year of top-tier arts offerings for our community.
The only way to secure tickets to all shows currently is with a season subscription. Subscription tickets, offer the best seats at the best price and are also redeemable for the Arts Center’s Presenting Artists Series.
For more information on subscriptions, visit www.artshhi.com or call 843-842-ARTS (2787).
Divas 3 is a celebration of the biggest hits by the greatest divas in pop music history!
Hailing from Las Vegas, a destination known for its extravagant shows and iconic performers, is the powerhouse trio Divas 3. And they’re coming our way with two shows: November 7 & 8 at the Arts Center.
These women bring their own unique styles and personalities to the stage, creating a show that is both familiar and innovative. This vibrant performance spans four decades covering the 1960's through the 1990's with hits by Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Cher, Dolly Parton, Donna Summer, Abba, and many more!
Each song is infused with powerful vocals, tight three-part harmonies, and creative arrangements, showcasing the group's impressive range and versatility.
Complete with glittering costumes (and costume changes), the trio belts out favorites like “My Boyfriend’s Back,” “Be My Baby,” “Will You Love Me Tonight,” “Stop, In the Name of Love,” and others.
They bring each era to life, with choreography reminiscent of each decade. There’s also a send-up to disco divas, in sparkling jumpsuits combining their roof-raising voices and dancing prowess. Audiences can expect a luscious litany of over two dozen crowdpleasing hits, including Barbra Streisand’s “The Way We Were,” Whitney Houston's “I Want to Dance with Somebody,” and Aretha Franklin's “Natural Woman.”
But Divas 3 is more than just a vocal showcase. Their show is a celebration of female empowerment, filled with energy, passion, and charisma. Their banter is engaging, their stage presence is magnetic, and their performances are infused with emotion.
Join us for this sure-to-sell-out show as we journey through four decades of legendary female performers from Cher to Celine!
Tickets are $63 for the two 7:30pm shows on November 7 & 8 and are on sale now! Visit tickets.artshhi.com or call (843) 842-ARTS (2787)!
