art academy for children Art Academy for Children is an innovative course for children who love art and show a deep interest in exploring the creative process. The Academy offers sequential art classes designed to deepen a child’s appreciation of art, develop creative and critical thinking, strengthen art-making skills, and cultivate personal expression.

What is modern art? The Academy invites you to explore modern art and to use the Art Station’s facilities as a foundation for learning. Youth will examine this question through our theme-based approach. Knowledge and skills are organized chronologically and across mediums, ranging from drawing to sculpture. We’ll begin the fall session with Neo-Impressionism and end with Futurism. During the winter-spring session, youth will study Dada to Abstract Expressionism.

Art Academy for Children: Intro to Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture Ages 5-13, 6-8 and 9-13 This 12-week in-depth sequential art class is for those students who would like to develop basic and intermediate skills in many mediums of art-making. From drawing to painting and from sculpture to pottery, students will build their art literacy by applying the elements and principles of design. This course will guide students through art history, projects, critiques, and portfolio creation. Emphasis will always be on the artist having fun through expressing their ideas and works. $240 Sess: 1 | Ages: 9-13 | TU | Sep 16-Dec 16 (no class Nov 11 & 25) | 4pm-6 | Danos NEW! Her love of animals has been a constant—she has volunteered or donated design work for animal organizations for more than 25 years. The Arts Matter to Grey Matter 28 artscentraloregon.org

There’s no question that the arts enrich a child’s learning experience. New concepts are brought to life and learning retention improves as students connect to their curriculum in exciting, meaningful ways. The arts matter to growing minds, which is why Arts Central offers Artists in Schools programming. Our team of over 30 professional visual, fine, craft and performing artists work with students and teachers to deliver extended educational arts activities, teach new skills and develop creative thinking. One week of Artist Residency provides four learning sessions per day, over five days, for a total of 20 hours.

The students loved the experience and they were excited to expand their learning to create more art at home. Thanks so much! – Maria Madden, Assistant Principal at Juniper Elementary on an AIS program with Gillian Rathbun

All instruction is sequential, developmentally appropriate and based on Oregon Department of Education’s Oregon Arts Content Standards. The result? Young people experience authentic learning that engages minds, hearts and bodies.

Artists in Schools is open to all public or private school in Deschutes, Jefferson, Crook, Lake and Klamath counties. In fact, we served more than 2141 students in the 2013-2014 school year! From art skillbuilding to family art night, arts curriculum development to arts linked to classroom objectives, Artists in Schools is designed to delight students, educators and parents alike.

our purpose Arts Central’s purpose is two-fold; to cultivate creative minds by making the arts accessible to all and to bring the arts into all aspects of community life.

Doing so provides an exciting new way of observing, interpreting and experiencing the world. This fresh perspective nurtures innovative problem solving and enriches all aspects of our lives. That is why we provide arts education services to individuals, schools and nonprofits throughout the region. We also collaborate with businesses and city governments to bring the arts into every facet of our region. Because the arts are essential to a healthy, vibrant community and when a strong creative economy exists, we all benefit.
