art academy for children Children’s Art Academy is an innovative course for children who love art and show a deep interest in exploring the creative process. The Academy offers sequential art classes designed to deepen a child’s appreciation of art, develop creative and critical thinking, strengthen art-making skills and cultivate personal expression. This term’s theme is modern art. Youth will study Dada to Abstract Expressionism.

Art Academy for Children Ages 5-13, 6-8 and 9-13 This 16-week in-depth sequential art class is for those students who would like to develop basic and intermediate skills in many mediums of art-making. The Arts Matter to Grey Matter 26 artscentraloregon.org

There’s no question that the arts enrich a child’s learning experience. New concepts are brought to life and learning retention improves as students connect to their curriculum in exciting, meaningful ways. The arts matter to growing minds, which is why Arts Central offers Artists in Schools programming. Our team of over 30 professional visual, fine, craft and performing artists work with students and teachers to deliver extended educational arts activities, teach new skills and develop creative thinking. One week of Artist Residency provides 20 hours of student contact time for $1,125.

The students loved the experience and they were excited to expand their learning to create more art at home. Thanks so much! – Maria Madden, Assistant Principal at Juniper Elementary on an AIS program with Gillian Rathbun

All instruction is sequential, developmentally appropriate and based on Oregon Department of Education’s Oregon Arts Content Standards. The result...we served 2,591 students in 2014. Young people experience authentic learning that engages minds, hearts and bodies.

Artists in Schools is open to all public or private school in Deschutes, Jefferson, Crook, Lake and Klamath counties. In fact, we served more than 2141 students in the 2013-2014 school year! From art skillbuilding to family art night, arts curriculum development to arts linked to classroom objectives, Artists in Schools is designed to delight students, educators and parents alike.
