Past, Present and Future…

A crucial part of our commitment to provide skills and opportunities to the community is to work with local schools across Diss, Harleston and Eye.

To date we have worked with both Diss and Archbishop Sancroft High Schools and have devoted programming time to these two teams – our plan is to include Hartismere and indeed Long Stratton next!

Sam Hunt, from the first cohort at Diss High School, led the Youth Take-over team in 2018 and has gone on to use some of the life skills and opportunities he gained from his time at Park Radio to help shape his future career decisions – here is Sam’s story...

''I have been a volunteer at Park Radio since its launch in 2017, working as a presenter, social media manager, and occasional receptionist. During my time, I gained valuable practical experience which aided me in my journalism degree I studied from 2018-2021. This included presenting live to a large audience, writing broadcast scripts, driving the desk, and interviewing guests. I graduated in 2021 with first-class honours in BA Journalism at City, University of London. Although I decided not to pursue journalism as a full-time career, my shifts as a receptionist and running the Park Radio Twitter feed significantly developed my administration and customer service skills. I also had the opportunity to speak and work with industry professionals, gaining valuable insight about working in radio and other career options. All of these skills developed at Park Radio helped me to secure my first job after graduation - I am a Marketing and Recruitment Assistant at City University, working on student recruitment projects for each of City’s five schools. My time at Park Radio is certainly not over though, and I look forward to any more volunteering I do in the future!''
