Three flamboyant characters present their uplifting and entertaining show with a unique dynamism and describe their music as “Folk Unlimited”. A motorcycle petrol tank, a musical saw and a Mercedes Benzouki made from hubcaps, glass harp, Bing-Bong machine and magic boots all join more conventional instruments to back Rosie Short’s sublime voice. Why “Churchfitters”? Nobody knows! They’re not fitters and have absolutely nothing to do with churches. The name’s origin is lost in the mists of time but there is one aspect that suits them perfectly - its quirkiness.

For the sound and feel of a rich Broadway musical, one considered to be the perfect musical comedy, Guys and Dolls is it. Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, this oddball romantic comedy never fails to warm the heart and lift the soul. Meet serious gamblers you’d happily invite to tea, nightclub performers you’d trust with your Granny and straightlaced missionaries who see the good in everyone. All of it finely knitted together with the wonderful brassy music of Frank Loesser, this show is an all round crowd-pleaser that doesn’t rage, challenge or shock. 12

Frances Mann Recent paintings and drawings 22nd September – 24th October Frances Mann went to Camberwell School of Art in the 1970s to study textiles and painting and finished the course in 1976 married to the painter Sargy Mann and expecting their first child. From then on painting, teaching, family life and helping Sargy as his eyesight deteriorated were all happily combined. Landscape painting from life is her main love and, moving from South London to Bungay 29 years ago, it has been the 'wonderful' Waveney Valley immediately around her that has provided the main subject matter of the intent observation that has been so central to her distinguished paintings and drawings ever since.
'Bewitched' Four distinguished children's book illustrators from the Waveney Valley 27th October – 12th January 2020 In a show running, very appropriately, from Halloween to Christmas, four very distinguished children's book illustrators, all remarkably, based in and around the Waveney Valley - James Mayhew, Polly Dunbar, Hannah Giffard and Kerry Timewell – will be exhibiting original works drawn from their own collections. Full of wit, poetic imagination, vivid colour and exhilarating drawing, this should prove a show to bewitch the child in all of us.

Luke Wright + Friends Friday 6th December, 7.30pm • £12
This year for the joint Bungay Library and Fisher Theatre Fundraiser, Luke Wright has enlisted the help of two of his poetry pals. You’ll remember John Osborne (writer of Radio 4’s John Peel’s Shed and Sky1’s After Hours) from last year for the colloquial beauty and wry humour of his poems. This year we’ve also got Martin Rowson. Best known as The Guardian’s top political cartoonist, Rowson is also a fine poet, filling his verse with the same visceral anger and satirical panache as he does his artwork. All proceeds go to Bungay Library and the Fisher Theatre. Do a “good” thing and be entertained, an ideal activity for the festive season.

Automatic for the People; 1992 and R.E.M. were the biggest, most important rock band in America. Their multi-platinum smash, 25 years later, remains a brooding, transitional album. Twelve nakedly emotional songs that offer a pristine portrait of the original four-piece formation at its absolute prime. R.E.M.\ Stipe will perform the whole album, in its original running order, with the attention to detail that defines the band.
