WELCOME It will come as no surprise that we are all delighted to be producing this brochure for autumn at The Apex. So many shows have been rescued from the various lockdowns that the diary is absolutely packed, promising some great evenings over the coming months.

The Fat Cat Comedy Club makes a welcome return and Jason Manford joins us for four shows. We’re really looking forward to gigs from Wet Wet Wet, Mica Paris, Scouting for Girls and Newton Faulkner and Ry Cooder’s son, Joachim.

The wonderful orchestra, La Serenissima will be performing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. They were one of the first orchestras to play at The Apex when we first opened and so it seems fitting to welcome them back as we reopen this Autumn. Other classical music sees the return of Evelyn Glennie, Bury Bach Choir, Suffolk Sinfonia and Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra.

Prior to the pandemic, photographer Geoff Price spent a year documenting everyday life at The Apex. The resulting exhibition beautifully captures every aspect of our much-loved venue and the major role it plays in the community. The exhibition runs from 19 October to 21 November and I highly recommend taking a look when you’re next in the building (entry is free).

As ever, there is some great folk music, while the jazz and world music programme sees visits by the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Stacey Kent, Courtney Pine and Seckou Keita with Omar Sosa.

There is so much more, so please dive in and explore this brochure and we will welcome you to The Apex with a great deal of joy. NICK WELLS • APEX PROGRAMMER

A small but impeccably formed orchestra of just four players, the BCO plays a blistering barrage of traditional folk and gypsy-flavoured music from across the Balkans and Russia; Klezmer laments, Romanian Doinas, Hungarian Czadas and their own unique re-imaginings. 40

The Budapest Café Orchestra have won legions of fans with their immense skill, profound musicianship and hugely entertaining shows. Evoking vivid images of fiddle maestros, Budapest café life and gypsy campfires – a gig by the BCO is good enough to make you want to book that holiday down the Danube!
