WELCOME Thank you for picking up our Summer brochure. As the Summer arrives and the temperature starts to rise, it is often a time for kicking back, relaxing and generally taking things a little easier... but not at The Apex where we have got a packed programme for you. The Apex is at the core of the annual Bury Festival which itself is so rammed with delights that you could be at The Apex every single day. Nigel Kennedy and Rick Wakeman may be long sold out, but there is still much to enjoy, whether you’re into jazz (Care Teal), classical music (John Lill and Chineke), folk (Kate Rusby), punk poetry (John Cooper Clarke) or Ukuleles (Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain) and much more besides. And the rest of the Summer? Well, it’s difficult to know where to start. As well as a smattering of top tribute acts, there is great stand-up comedy from the likes of Andy Hamilton, Shappi Korshandi and Josh Widdicombe.

A couple of bands dropping in before playing some big Summer festivals in Magnum and Ash. Top New York jazz pianist, Monty Alexander. The wonderful Eddi Reader returns and, to satisfy demand, we have a repeat performance of Woman to Woman – an evening of music from three of the UK’s bestloved singer-songwriters, Judie Tzuke, Beverley Craven and Julia Fordham. Throw in to the mix Leo Sayer, The Manfreds and legendary guitarist Albert Lee plus some fascinating evenings with David Gower, Ruby Wax and Simon Schama and you just know that you need to spend the Summer at The Apex. And my highlight? The very welcome return by the chaps from Oz with fine voices and even finer beards who are the Spooky Men’s Chorale. NICK WELLS APEX PROGRAMMER
