Environmental Art Fair The Greenhouse Gallery in Norwich stages it's 4th Environmental Art Fair from 5th December 5th - January 28th. Thompson's Gallery Christmas Exhibition Thompson’s Gallery Aldeburgh will be hosting their annual Christmas Exhibition from December 3rd to January 3rd, showcasing an eclectic mix of all new work - paintings and sculpture from 53 artists, from the Scottish Colourists to Contemporary British. Christmas Showcase at Lettering Arts Centre, Snape The Lettering Arts Centre opens its Christmas exhibition, a stunning collection of hand-made works designed by the UK's leading lettering artists. Running until December 23rd, there is a wide selection of unique pieces with inscriptions to amuse or uplift, designed and made by hand. Artworks on display range from letters carved on stone and wood to lino-cut prints and limited- edition calligraphy pieces. The exhibition is curated by the Lettering Arts Trust, a charity whose mission is to raise awareness of the historic art of lettering and safeguard the timeless skills of letter carving through a comprehensive education programme, including an apprenticeship scheme. Artist Profile: Rebecca Sorensen Drawing is in Rebecca Sorensen's blood. 'It's something I've done my whole life,' says Rebecca. 'My dad used to draw and I'd draw with him. Now my children draw with me. At school I excelled at art and dreamed of a career in that field.' But Rebecca's dream to be an art teacher was put on the back burner when she fell pregnant. Four more children followed but Rebecca continued to draw in her (limited) spare time. 'I love drawing anything still life, landscapes, people,' says Rebecca. 'Over time my drawing has evolved until I've discovered a real passion for doodling which is what I spend my time doing now.' Rebecca's incredibly detailed doodles are intricate and beautiful. 'Doodling takes far longer than normal drawing as I like to include as many tiny details as possible,' says Rebecca. 'These intricate patterns build up to create a whole picture. With a doodle you can look at it and find something new everyday.'
Combining her artistic flair with motherhood, Rebecca has designed murals of many things including a spider and Peppa Pig for the walls of her children's bedrooms. She has also recently doodled on both a bike and a car engine. For her latest project, Rebecca is in the process of making an adult colouring book and is looking for help with funding. 'I bought some colouring books for myself but I was never happy with the finished piece,' says Rebecca. 'They just didn't look as pretty as I'd hoped they would. I began to think about creating my own book filled with pictures that, when coloured in, would leave you with a lovely piece of art work you could frame. Something you could be proud of. I have come up with some beautiful pictures, like the lily pictured here, that will look great once coloured in.' Rebecca's doodles are on sale at Coffee Time cafe in Diss. Chloe Mandy Chloe’s landscapes and still lifes search for imagery that works on more than one level, a layering of meaning. Her paintings are not just a direct response to what she sees, they are also about what the eye can’t perceive.The great Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich said; '..the painter should not solely paint what he sees, but also what he sees in himself,' and this thinking is a great influence on Chloe’s work.

Norfolk collective to exhibit new works at city gallery A Norfolk collective is set to open an exhibition of unseen work at the Fairhurst Gallery in Norwich. Eight by Eight will feature paintings by Group Eight who are renowned for working outdoors ‘en plein air’. Each of the group’s eight artists has created a new, three foot square piece of work for the show as well as numerous study pieces. Theatre & Film News Christmas at the Circus First shows announced for Norfolk & Norwich Festival Norfolk & Norwich Festival, one of the largest arts festivals in the country, has announced the first shows for 2017. Last year’s Festival saw 57,000 people attend an event over the 17 days in May, generating £3.9 million of economic activity in the area. Nearly 3000 people participated in the festival, with over 900 children and young people taking part in Christmas is coming and so is the amazing Hippodrome Christmas

Pulham Players: Peter Pan Award-winning Norfolk group Pulham Players invite you all to their panto offering in January. All is not well in Neverland for Captain Hook! His hook has both an itch and twitch! It has an itch to find the Lost Boys and their leader, Peter Pan, the boy who never grows up! The twitch is for the terrifying crocodile which is following him around, waiting for a second helping! So, aided by his crew of bumbling buccaneers he is searching high and low for the Lost Boys camp. Tiger Lily and the Red Indians are on the warpath, ready to help, although their efforts are hindered by Laughing Water, the chief Dame of the tribe, who has a twinkling in her eye for the pirate they call Smee! Thrown into this exciting adventure are the Darling children, Wendy, John and Michael. Tinkerbell is there to offer just a sprinkle of pixie dust and masses of attitude! The Russian State Ballet of Siberia
Norwich Theatre Royal, January 26th-28th 2017 They have built up a strong worldwide reputation for the quality of their traditional ballet as well as a dedicated Norfolk fan-base. And the Russian State Ballet of Siberia are set to return to Norwich Theatre Royal in 2017 with a trio of fantastic productions. Their run begins on January 26th with Coppélia, the fantastic story of mistaken identity and true love which is brought to life by some stunning choreography and by the energetic score of Delibes. Wicked Comedy takes to Norwich Stage The Norfolk & Norwich Operatic Society returns to Norwich Theatre Royal from January 31st to February 4th, 2017, with the fabulous wicked musical comedy The Witches of Eastwick. The society last trod the Theatre Royal boards in January this year with Sunset Boulevard, a story which exposes the dark side of fame, and now it returns to the ‘dark side’ once again with a tale of a devil-ishly attractive man and three beautiful women caught up in his magical web. The Witches of Eastwick began life as a John Updike novel published in 1984, followed in 1987 by a movie starring Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pieiffer and Cher, with Jack Nicholson as the devilish Darryl Van Horne. Musical impresario Cameron Mackintosh weaved his magic to turn it into a musical in July 2000 starring Ian McShane of Lovejoy fame. The action takes place in sleepy 1950s Eastwick, where three bored women are intrigued by the arrival of a handsome stranger. The Norfolk & Norwich Operatic Society production will see local amateur talent taking to the stage with Darryl played by
Terry Boast, and the witches played by Andrea Ferguson, Kathryn White and Claire Chandler. This promises to be a stunning production with visual affects which will include the witches taking flight. The show contains scenes of an adult nature and is recommended for age 14+.

In 1978 she met and married her sound engineer husband Trevor Jordan and they went on to have two sons Jay and Joseph.
With numerous hit singles, million-selling albums and awards under her belt, Elkie Brooks is one of the UK's most popular singers.
'Back when my two boys were small, they came on tour with me and I remember feeding my youngest son in between sets,' she says. 'As a woman it's what you have to do if you want a career as well as motherhood.'
And at an age when many people are thinking of winding down, Elkie is doing anything but. With a tour underway and two new albums in the pipeline, she is just as driven as ever. In January, she is performing at The Apex, Bury st Edmunds on January 21st, followed by a gig at The King's Lynn Corn Exchange on January 26th. 'My tours are very different now,' says Elkie. 'I don't do night after night without a break which I hated doing even 30 years ago. Instead, now I prefer to space the dates out so that I have time to rest my voice after giving 100% at each performance.' Fans eager to hear Elkie's biggest hits - like Pearl's A Singer, No More the Fool and Nights in White Satin - won't be disappointed. 'I always do the hits,' laughs Elkie. 'People would lynch me if I didn't. In some cases we've changed the arrangements over the years which gives it a fresh feel. I also like to add new songs and other songs from past albums. This keeps it fresh for the audience but also for me too.' Elkie has been singing all her life but found fame aged 15 when she auditioned for music manager Don Arden, Sharon Osbourne's father, at the Palace Theatre, Manchester. He was so impressed that Elkie was invited back to sing in a show that evening before embarking on a tour. Since then, she has never looked back. Besides music, family is Elkie's passion.
Jay has gone on to become his mother's manager, along with his wife and they are currently putting the finishing touches to their fourth album together, Elkie's 21st ever studio album. 'We've been recording this album for quite a few years now,' says Elkie. 'The legendary Pete Townsend has written a song for me which is sounding wonderful.' Alongside this, a legacy album containing highlights of Elkie's back catalogue is scheduled for release this coming Easter. So does Elkie see herself winding down any time soon? 'I don't think they'd let me,' she laughs. 'But if and when that does happen there are so many things I enjoy doing with my time. I've been practicing a form of martial arts called Aikido for many years. I train every morning and would love to have even more time to devote to this. I also enjoy cooking and gardening.'

Fairground Attraction Star comes to Bungay February 17th - Fisher Theatre, Bungay Head to the Fisher Theatre for a not-to-be missed opportunity to see master guitarist and songwriter Mark Nevin at work. Mark Nevin came to prominence in the late 80’s as the founding member, guitarist and songwriter of Fairground Attraction, with whom he enjoyed the number 1 single ‘Perfect’ and multi-platinum album, ‘First of a Million Kisses’ - each received a Brit award. He went on to collaborate as co-writer to Morrissey (scoring 4 top 20 singles), Kirsty MacColl and Lloyd Cole. His songs have been covered, among many others, by David Bowie, Joe Cocker and Ringo Starr. In 1999 he made the move to centre stage and producing his solo albums; ‘Insensitive Songwriter’ (1999). ‘The Mighty Dove’ (2002), ‘Stand Beside Me In The Sun (2011), ‘Beautiful Guitars’ (2014). Britain’s Biggest Christmas Extravaganza celebrates 40 years.
The Christmas Spectacular is a three-hour performance delivering an extravaganza of non-stop singing, dancing, music, humour and variety. The show has a cast of 130 professional singers, dancers and musicians, direct from the West End, who collaborate on 85 different routines.The result is a fast moving celebration of the festive season featuring an eclectic mix of both seasonal and year round favourites for The Thursford Christmas Spectacular has entertained families for decades with its unmissable mix of entertainment, food, shopping, lights and Father Christmas. This year is extra special as Thursford celebrates its 40th show: it all began when the Thursford Collection hosted a small carol concert to a crowd of around 50 people.The idea was to raise additional funds to support the upkeep of its steam engines, fairground rides and gondolas. During the intervening years, the small concert has developed into the largest Christmas extravaganza in Britain, which attracts around 180,000 visitors throughout the festive period, more than the 135,000

Home of Printmaking in Bury Fine artist Evelyn Polk is based in Bury St Edmunds. Having graduated from the Cambridge School of Art with a 1st class printmaking/fine Art Honours degree, she has exhibited at numerous galleries, including the Mall galleries London,The Norwich Print Fair, Byard Art gallery Cambridge, King’s Lynn Art Centre, Peter Pears gallery Aldebrough,The Edmund Gallery Bury St Edmunds to name but a few. Evelyn teaches Art and Photography in secondary education at Mildenhall College Academy, has delivered screen printing workshops to disadvantaged children, worked along side Kettles Yard in Cambridge with school groups delivering workshops in response to exhibitions and has been a visiting artist at the College of West Anglia to inspire students on the undergraduate art course. Her work is centred around the found object, but this also overlaps with notions of excavation and the land. Acting like a mediator, selecting and presenting items for the consideration of the viewer.

Printmaking is a strong factor in her works, but this discipline crosses over and is often collaged and mixed with painting/drawing and assemblages. Evelyn also runs the Bury St Edmunds Print Workshop from her studio.The workshop is a unique, purpose-built working artist studio which has recently been opened to the public through her classes and the hire of facilities and equipment. It offers a wide range of printing techniques to artists, students and print enthusiasts of all abilities in a friendly and professional environment. Classes are limited to four adults, are intensive and give a thorough grounding in collagraph printing, lino printing and etching. Course students are now able to use the Printmaking Workshop studio space on an hourly basis after completion of the course.

The prestigious Ravensbourne University holds early interviews just for Conservatoire East's Media students and accepts large numbers who then move on to work with companies such as Sky and Warner Brothers. Music and Music tech students go forward to Westminster University and BIMM. Performing Arts students progress to top drama schools including Mountview, Royal Central, LAMDA, Oxford and Arts Ed. Every year the exclusive Musical Theatre Academy in London offers just 20 places, this year three of them went to Conservatoire East's musical theatre students. The Conservatoire operate as a professional arts centre giving students the chance to be involved in over 35 public performances per year. Plays, musicals, Shakespeare, CafÊ Theatre, Comedy and Cabaret.There are also frequent workshops for students with visiting artists. Excellent links with industry professionals lead to great progression opportunities.The courses give students up to 500 hours a year of real industry related work experience. Conservatoire East has outstanding results with their University of Arts London (UAL) Extended Diploma. UAL are the examining body and they use the Conservatoire's work as exemplars of good practice with other colleges.
