Suffolk artist, Laura Beardsell-Moore, will be exhibiting a new collection of paintings in Woodbridge Library from November 2nd-30th.The exhibition, entitled, ’My county and other animals’ is a response to the natural world and our sometimes difficult relationship with it. Using her unique blend of figurative and abstract elements, Laura explores Suffolk’s rich flora and fauna and the ways that people make an impact on the local environment. Storytelling is never far from the surface of Laura’s work, so it seems only fitting that her first solo exhibition

The exhibition presents a rare opportunity to see the iconic ‘Elemental balloons’ made by Ken Cox in 1968, previously unexhibited poem-scores by Dom Sylvester Houédard and magnetic reliefs or ‘points’ by Li Yuan Chia. Norwich at centre of major art discovery An extraordinary art world mystery relating to a missing painting by the famous Belgian surrealist artist, René Magritte (1898 – 1967) is inching closer to being solved due to an exciting recent discovery in Norwich. The third quarter of the missing painting La Pose enchantée has been discovered underneath Magritte's painting La Condition humaine in Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery. Two other quarters had previously been uncovered underneath Magritte's paintings in museums in New York and Stockholm. 'What happened to the missing painting is now, however, slowly coming to light in a remarkable series of events,' says Dr Giorgia Bottinelli, Curator of Historic Art at Norwich Castle. 'It seems that for some reason, Magritte must have decided to cut the painting into quarters and then painted four completely different paintings over the top. So our painting La Condition humaine has in fact been successfully hiding part of La Pose enchantée for more than 80 years.' www.museums.norfolk.gov.uk

In Celebration of the Saints All Saints Church in Kesgrave is holding a week long Exhibition of Saints from October 29th-November 5th. The exhibition consists of over 15 models of Saints designed and constructed by local groups, businesses and schools. Each Saint will be accompanied by information about the Saint in question, and who was involved in its construction. It promises to be an exciting and inspiring display of creativity. The church will be open throughout the day and the exhibition is free to attend, although they will be welcoming donations. The event is being launched with a Pop Up Cafe on the morning of October 29th at the church serving yummy home made cakes and biscuits from 9:30am-1pm.

Artist Profile: James Colman Art, in one form or another, has always been a big part of James Colman's life.

But a move back to Norfolk ten years ago led to a resurgence in his own painting.

'We are keen to innovate,' says James. 'There's no reason why plein air painting needs to remain a conservative platform for artists, there should be room to experiment.'

'I loved painting and drawing as a child but embarked on a career as an art dealer in London so my own art took a back seat,' says James. 'But back in Norfolk, I began to spend more time painting, particularly outdoors.'

And innovative they certainly are. In a new event this year, watercolour artists will be taking canoes out down the River Wensum to paint the city from a different perspective. There will also be a Freestyle 2-day event where artists can create a single large format piece of work. The core event takes place from October 17th-18th where selected artists take part in four separate three-hour painting sessions.

This love of painting 'en plein air' has become a passion. 'I love being outside,' says James. 'It doesn't matter whether I'm painting in the city or out in the countryside. There is always something to learn.' Plein air painting can force an artist to hone his or her skills in an entirely different way to studio-based painting. 'You need to learn to absorb where you are and become more observant,' says James. 'As time goes on, you get better at that. I paint reality with an expressionist twist. You learn to pull out the aspects of the landscape that you want to concentrate on.' In 2014 James, in celebration of his love of plain air painting, launched a juried open air art competition called Paint Out Norwich. Now it's in third year, it has gone from strength to strength and is taking place this month from October 15th29th October. The five-day painting event (with multiple

'Don't be afraid of making mistakes..it's a journey,' says James. 'It can be frustrating and disappointing but also very exciting.'

Over the years he became involved in a number of local historical projects, including being a guide on the site of the world-famous Anglo-Saxon Burial Ship at Sutton Hoo. He also edited the Saxon Magazine during this period. With his wife, Elizabeth, he has written a number of successful books about East Anglia. Mark is a photographer as well as an author. Among his published works are Suffolk a Portrait in Colour; Norfolk in Colour; Essex in Colour; Explore East Anglia; The Villages of Suffolk. His most recent publication is Treasure Hoards of East Anglia. He is also a contributor to the New Aldeburgh Anthology. He is well known as a lecturer in East Anglia, speaking on subjects which range from Elizabethan theatre to the Lost City of Dunwich, and from Dickens to the Bayeux Tapestry (via Mozart and Crippen!).

Accolade open Sewell Barn 2016/17 season Psychological thriller Accolade comes to Sewell Barn Theatre, Norwich this month. On October 28th Jimmy Osmond brings his latest show to King's Lynn Corn Exchange. It is a touching tribute to singer Andy Williams with songs, nostalgic footage and memories. 'I began my performing career aged three singing with Andy Williams on his television series,' says Jimmy. ' My brothers were already on the show, so I started working with them when I was very young. I was the little guy who’d run on and be goofy. We ended up as regulars on the show and singing on records like Aquarius.' Jimmy speaks very fondly of his new show. 'I love it,' says Jimmy. 'It’s not about me – it’s about Andy Williams and his music. I perform songs like Music To Watch Girls By, Happy Heart, Speak Softly Love and Can’t Take My Eyes Off You and of course Moon River. 'The Williams’ family has very kindly allowed me to use clips of Andy featuring everyone from Dick Van Dyke to John Wayne and Bobby Darin, you name it. When I start singing,“You’re just too good to be true”, you’ll see it being performed by Andy on the video walls. And when I do Love Story, Andy sings it with me on the big screen. It brings back great memories for thousands of people.' Andy was a terrific mentor to Jimmy over the years. 'He surrounded us and himself with the very best people – that’s key,' says Jimmy. 'Also, he was always willing to hear what was wrong rather than what was right about a performance. That is really helpful. Even today after a show, I always ask,“What needs to be improved?” That’s a really good way to lead your life.' Jimmy's relationship with Andy has had a lasting effect. He now runs operations at the Andy Williams Moon River Theatre in Branson, Missouri. 'Andy asked me to keep his legacy alive. His family weren’t interested in continuing the theatre – it’s a very hard job,' says Jimmy. 'At first I said no but then I produced a Christmas show there, and it went very well. His family said, “If you don’t take it over, we’ll have to sell it.” So I bought it!'

Since then the theatre has averaged 400 shows a year. 'It’s a 2100 seat theatre, and it’s become so important to the town. I put a lot of love into it, and it seems to have paid off! says Jimmy. Back in this country Jimmy's new show also contains some of the Osmonds favourites we know and love. 'I do a section of Osmonds’ material – Love Me For a Reason, Crazy Horses and Let Me In,' says Jimmy. 'I also do a comedy section. During A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock’n’Roll, I put masks of Donny and Marie on people from the audience, so I can get back at my siblings!' British audiences are a firm favourite with Jimmy. 'I’m so surprised the fans have stuck with us. But I’m delighted by their loyalty, especially in this country. For me it’s special in the UK because it is not just about me being an Osmond. It’s about me being me. I’ve done reality TV shows in the UK and that has put me out there. It’s just for fun and not to sell anything. The British public like that. They like people who can laugh at themselves. And there’s a lot to laugh at if you look at my history.’

Syd Barrett: A Celebration Cambridge Live has confirmed more details of the Syd Barrett celebratory concert taking place at the Cambridge Corn Exchange on October 27th, with friends of the late Pink Floyd founder confirmed as taking part in the performance. The concert, features Swedish band Men on the Border, who reinterpret the music of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd, backed by the Sandviken Symphony Orchestra, also from Sweden. The evening will also feature narration from acclaimed playwright, freelance writer and former friend of Syd Barrett, David Gale. David grew up in Cambridge and was a childhood friend of Syd and went on to share a flat with him in London before embarking on a highly successful career that has seen him write plays as well as TV documentaries. In addition to David Gale being added to the line-up, two members of P-Floyd, one of the foremost Pink Floyd concept bands in the world, will also be onstage for the performance. Jan Stumsner (guitars) and Peter Holmstedt (bass) from the band will join Men on the Border for the concert which will celebrate Syd’s music. Music Profile: Hitting the Right Note

With a Radio DJ for a dad, music has always been an important part of James Rogers' life. 'My dad had a country music show on the radio and also played guitar so music was a big thing in our house,' says James. 'By the time I was 11 I was playing too.' Severely dyslexic, James struggled at school but discovered a real talent for music. At college, he joined a music technology course and instantly felt at home. 'I loved it and it really gave me direction,' says James. 'I developed a real passion for music in film and loved looking at how the music interacts with the visuals. I began to dream that I might someday be able to work in that field.' James left college with a triple distinction and a desire to further explore his passion. After a university degree, James was able

James' hard work paid off when he started getting commissions to write music and jingles for adverts and short films. Often working with Abby, James has, since then, created many successful jungles both for TV and radio. 'My clients include, among others, SunLife, Mitsubishi, Age Partnership, Soda Stream,Tool Station and Pounds to Pocket,' says James. 'I've also worked on scores for a number of films.' So how does James find inspiration? 'Sometimes the client is very clear on what they want and will often have already filmed the section they want the music or jingle for,' says James. 'They'll send me a detailed brief. Other times they are looking for ideas so I try lots of different things until everyone is happy.' Currently James is working on the score for a new film called Parallel City.

The 16th century inn is cosy, welcoming and stylish housing an eclectic mix of artwork. It's hard to believe that just last year, 12 weeks after opening, 45% of the building was tragically lost to fire - the rebuilding and renovation work has been beautifully done. The menu was varied and inviting. For a starter, I chose Ravioli of Ceps with Roasted Squash Velouté. The combination of flavours and textures was exciting and worked brilliantly. My partner had the Venison Tartare &

Gnocchi and Chard.The presentation alone was stunning and the food was delicious. For dessert we shared a Vanilla Panna Cotta with Chilled Strawberry Soup and a Damson and Pistachio Bakewell Tart. The panna cotta was beautifully creamy and the pistachios added a new dimension to an old favourite. The Unruly Pig has a secret weapon in the kitchen in the form of an Inka grill - a closed door charcoal grills that cooks at an incredible 400 degrees, enhancing the flavour and succulence of the meat and fish.

It wasn't until my 20s that I came into painting and at first it was very much a hobby. I took art A-Level but everything else I've learnt has been self taught. I started off using watercolours but, as time has gone on, I've developed a love of painting in oils and acrylics too. I began exhibiting in the 1990s in galleries in London and Norfolk. Since then, I've been lucky enough to work full-time as an artist. I enjoy painting horses and often paint racehorses for their owners. I also enjoy painting still life, wildlife, portraits, abstracts and landscapes.

Two years ago I was asked to paint a horse at the West Norfolk Hunt Ball as a charity prize. A few days later we received a call from Buckingham Palace. They'd seen my painting at the ball and wanted me to paint the Queen's horse that had just won the Gold Cup. I was stunned but incredibly proud. My wife Sue and I delivered the finished painting to Sandringham where we handed it over to Prince Phillip himself. It was an amazing day and I feel very honoured to have one of my paintings in the Royal Collection.

Q. Where can people see your work? I've exhibited all over the place but now have an exclusive contract with The Arts Lounge in Swaffham. There you can see numerous pieces of my work on display.
