abou About Us

Park Radio is local radio for Diss, Harleston, Eye and surrounding villages, covering much of South Norfolk and Mid Suffolk in the Waveney Valley. Park Radio’s aim is to provide an all-day truly local service every day for the area it covers on the Norfolk and Suffolk border. We are looking to fill a local radio void, with stations in the regional centres of Norwich and Ipswich offering little or no coverage and involvement. Park Radio offers a new voice allowing local people to contact, inform and involve the community. It is owned and run by local people on a not-for-profit basis and is operated by volunteers from the coverage area. It is supported by advertising, grants and fundraising. The Park Radio group was originally formed in 2009, after a public meeting in Diss showed strong support for the idea of setting up a local radio station. Founding directors John Cross and Chris Moyse registered a company

4

the following year with the aim of applying for a broadcast licence, naming the company after the town centre park. The group organised four onemonth test broadcasts in the next few years, which were only able to reach the area around Diss, due to restrictions on signal strength. When the chance finally came up to apply for a full-time licence, it was decided to involve a wider coverage area in the Waveney Valley. Ofcom, the radio regulator, then approved a Community Radio licence for five years, with the station’s big on-air launch day finally arriving on November 26th 2017. Park Radio broadcasts 24 hours a day from its specially-built studios in Diss at the Youth & Community Centre, in Shelfanger Road, with transmitters at Diss and Harleston. You can hear us on 107.6 FM in the Diss and Eye areas and on 105.2 FM around Harleston. You can also listen to the station on our website,

ut us via the LISTEN LIVE button, or by using the Tune-in app. Park Radio’s focus is being local, with news, information, features, interviews and discussions about people, issues and events around the area. The station also features a sustaining service of great good-listening, popular music from the last 40 years – and more. You can hear a wide range of favourite hits from the 1960s right up to the present day. Some you won’t hear anywhere else these days, and there’s a variety of specialist music shows in the evenings and at weekends. Park Radio wants to hear from you! If you have any information, news or want to tell the area about an event you are involved with, then let us know. Also if you have a query about Park Radio or want to make a comment, then let us know by using the form on the website or sending the details to our email address. If you would like to become involved

with Park Radio as a volunteer, contact us for more information. Part of our remit as a community radio station is to offer training for our volunteer broadcast and support team, so we are always looking for dedicated local people to help us in a number of areas. These include administration and community engagement, as well as programme production, presenting and support. Telephone us, send an email, or fill in the contact form on our website. Park Radio is at the centre of the community. Members of the station team continue to go out-and-about to raise awareness, support and funds. We have attended or organised a wide range of events locally over the years – and continue to do so. Contact us for more details if you would like us to attend your event. See more details on our Events page.

Encouraging Young Talent Park Radio encourage young people locally to get involved in media work. Most recently, Diss High School hosted their ‘6th Form Takeover’ with mentoring from the Park Radio team. Keep listening out for students from across the region as this fantastic initiative will continue throughout the five years of Park Radio’s licence. Sam Hunt, one of the ‘6th Form Takeover’ Presenters says: ‘The overwhelming factor was how much we have all gained from their experience. We can now imagine how more large-scale radio stations operate and understand the process of playing music, news and organising shows. In other words, it has given us real insight into the world of national and international media which has helped us with our specific studies.’

Advertising Rates To advertise on Park Radio costs as little as £2 per play! This allows even the smallest local businesses an opportunity to get their message out to over 80,000 local people. Radio commercials will be either 30 or 40 seconds long, dependent on its material content, and will be made by one of our local media advertising agencies. Once the client has approved the commercial (which is then theirs to own in perpetuity), they can then agree just how much exposure on the station they require. The map below shows the extent to which Park Radio will be heard over the locality.

From humble beginnings in 1988 Able Taxis developed into one of the largest taxi operators in South Norfolk becoming a limited company in 2000. With the ever increasing cost of labour and red tape, and the owners wanting to take a step back, a restructuring became inevitable. This occurred in September 2017 when Able Taxis split from the parent company to once again become a small independent operator. The standard vehicles operated can seat from 1 to 4, 5 or 6 passengers, also available by working alongside other local reputable operators are 8 seater minibuses and wheelchair accessible vehicles, all vehicles are either hackney carriage or private hire licensed by South Norfolk District Council (SNSC) and all drivers are DBS checked and again licensed by SNDC. In addition to day to day local taxi services we also offer a courier service, transport to and from bus stations, train stations, airports, seaports, for weddings and nights out and hospitals including wait and return service.
