WELCOME TO

THE FISHER THEATRE Dear Reader, Another year, and a new start comes our way. For the Fisher Theatre that start couldn’t be better, with the support of two new artistic patrons, James Mayhew and Alex Redington, who join the generous and celebrated Luke Wright whose fundraiser in December for the theatre and Bungay Community Library was a huge success. Now to let you know a little about our new patrons and how lucky we are to have them. James Mayhew is a children’s author and illustrator who grew up in Suffolk and has now returned to live in Bungay. James has published over 50 books, read all over the world and performs as a Concert Presenter by illustrating to live concert music, which we hope he might do here one day. To support the Fisher, James is leading a workshop for children’s book illustrators, on 12th January, followed by a Fundraiser in the evening. Alex Redington has been the first violinist in the world renowned Doric String Quartet since he was 15. He tours, giving concerts and recitals all over the world. His home was Botesdale on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and he’s pleased to support the Fisher bringing classical music back to its programme. Watch this space. This season we have some unmissable calendar events such as Pendragon, local lauded musicians, hosting our Fisher Ceilidh, with a delicious traditional Burns Night supper first in January. In February look out for Yesterday Once More, a highly acclaimed tribute to the Carpenters. In March we have The Salts ‘…doing for shanties, what The Pogues did for Folk. Fronted by twice BBC Young Folk Finalist Lee Collinson.’ And in April, get your tickets quickly for the brilliant Hazel O’Connor. Finally we would like to thank Laila France for her time in office as the Programme and Events Manager. Laila’s contributions have realised significant benefit for the Fisher. Fortunately Laila will continue to be involved through her work with UpShoot Theatre, the Fisher Youth Theatre Group and her new community adult offer in the shape of OffShoot. Happy New Year to you all, and here’s to a wonderful 2019 at The Fisher Theatre.

This visceral new production about the limits of power will be directed by Joe Hill Gibbins, whose previous plays include Little Revolution at the Almeida and Absolute Hell at the National Theatre. Richard II, King of England, is irresponsible, foolish and vain. His weak leadership sends his kingdom into disarray and his court into uproar. HAZEL O’CONNOR - Hallelujah Moments Wednesday 3rd April, 7.30pm • £21 The first major female star of the 80s, award winning singer-songwriter Hazel O’Connor rose to fame in 1980 starring in the film Breaking Glass. There were hits and eye-catching Top of The Pops appearances aplenty along the way. Hazel's ageless songs include Eighth Day, Will You, Big Brother, Monsters in Disguise, Calls The Tune, If Only, Give Me An Inch, Blackman and Hanging Around - all of which seem even more relevant in our present times. Accompanied here by virtuoso saxophonist Clare Hirst (The Belle Stars, Communards, David Bowie) on sax and vocals and Sarah Fisher (Eurythmics) on keyboards and vocals, this powerful blend of voices and musicianship brings a classy touch of energy, passion and fire to Hazel’s vibrant performance.
