WELCOME TO
THE FISHER THEATRE Dear Customer and Supporter, Arts news doesn’t always make the headlines, but it’s certainly been making front page news in the national papers recently, and not for the right reasons. There’s been a significant downturn in theatre attendance across the country, hitting the provincial and regional theatres hard. We are only too aware of this and how it has been affecting us since February this year. Brexit, rising living costs, general uncertainty, and the hard winter and now the heat wave, have all played a part in this. Its very important for us to voice now, that places like the Fisher Theatre survive on ticket sales, events, volunteers and donations alone. We aren’t one of those lucky venues that gets funding to exist and get big name acts. We are very proud of this. Since the Fisher re-opened in 2006, we’ve had very minor revenue funding. This fact sends out a clear signal that the Fisher Theatre’s a valuable and supported charity in our community, one we hope many others believe we can’t afford to lose. Because of these leaner anxious times, we have made a few changes. Firstly, we will be reducing the number of Fisher Theatre Cinema showings to one a month, alongside the Bungay Film club monthly offering. Secondly, we will be reducing the number of streams from certain distributors, as not all of the more obscure works or frequently encored works get good audiences. Now, it’s all about making sure that what we show brings in the largest numbers we can get. Cellar Nights will also take a break this Autumn-Winter while we rethink the formula to make it grow. The café will close in the daytime but the Box Office will remain manned by a volunteer from 10-3pm Monday to Saturday. The office will be manned in the daytime too, please book in advance for an appointment with staff. In the evening, on show nights, the Box Office and Café/Bar will re-open at 6pm. From 7pm until the show/activity starts, that show/activity will have priority in the Box Office. When there is no show or evening activity the Box Office and Bar will not re-open at 6pm. The Fisher’s working hard to increase its involvement in the community and is currently engaged in a number of activities that demonstrate the value of the arts in our lives, other than purely as entertainment. I for one, intend for us to grow our position in the community. To do this, we need you as customers and volunteers to help the Fisher stay, thrive and grow. Your theatre needs you, as the saying goes, in any way you can support it, buying tickets, taking a class, having a meal, making a donation, becoming a volunteer, and helping us fundraise, to ensure we don’t fall like many around us. We look forward to seeing you at the theatre thus helping this wonderful historical building stride on into the future in the way it was meant.

Supporting the Fisher Theatre: There are many ways you can support the Fisher Theatre, a not-for-profit Arts charity. Please find ways you can help the dear old Fisher keep going below:-
VOLUNTEERING:
Volunteers are active in helping in the following areas of ushering, box office, cafe/bar work,
prepping, cooking, serving, setting-up events, clearing-up after events, hanging exhibitions, publicity, delivering programmes, putting up posters, helping with mail-outs, technical, administration, book-keeping, running promotional stalls, fundraising, building upkeep and improvements. If you are interested, please email: info@fishertheatre.org. As a volunteer at the Fisher Theatre you receive 10% off the cafe/bar, are invited to regular gatherings and free entrance to FT films when not fully booked.
FISHER THEATRE LOTTERY: The all-new Fisher Theatre Lottery with bigger prize. If you wish to join please email info@fishertheatre.org for joining instructions. Each month £2.50 per ball will be collected by direct debit and the draw will reveal the lucky winner of £250.00. A great way to support the Fisher Theatre.
FISHER STARS: This scheme raises funds for the upkeep, repair and maintenance of the furnishings of the building. You can choose to make a £5/£10/£20 donation a month.
MEMBERSHIP: If you support and give time or money to this arts charity, you may want to play a part in the structure that chooses the Trustees that govern the charity. You can become a member, which then gives you information on the health and prospects of the charity at its yearly AGM, and an opportunity to put yourself forward to be voted in as a Trustee, if you have particular skills and experience that the charity is seeking, or to vote for others who stand as Trustees. In this way you become a part of what steers the Fisher Theatre into the future alongside the support that you give the charity as a volunteer, fundraiser or initiative leader.
LEAVING YOUR MARK: To commemorate fond memories, events, people or a personal connection to the Fisher Theatre, Bronze plaques are available which can be purchased and engraved with your chosen words, and placed on the picture rail in the auditorium for posterity.
PATRON SPONSOR: We would like to give our thanks to our sponsor Musker McIntyre. We would also like to warmly welcome our newest corporate sponsor Transam. We hope that we have a great year working with and entertaining them at our lovely theatre. Without sponsors like this we would not be able to take our theatre onwards, on its ever-changing journey to providing quality arts for its community.

David Pairpoint : ‘Searching For Ed Dorn’ Private View: 2nd September, 4-6pm Runs from: 2nd September - 11th October. I first saw the John Ford western, The Searchers, at age 12 and was transfixed. The film has grown in stature, lauded for its complexities and its dark heart. The epic poem The Gunslinger by Ed Dorn, and the film have coalesced in these paintings. The imagery has its origins in the film, the poem provides the narrative.
Joan Johns: ‘Behind the Lines’ Private View: 28th October 4-6pm Runs from: 15th October - 15th November. “Telegrams arrived saying ‘Your husband died an honourable death fighting for King and country’. But many simply fell off a duckboard and sank in the mud. More were machine gunned down by just putting their heads above the trench, or just didn’t get out of the trench! Will this exhibition show what really happens when politicians send good men, women and boys, to war - I hope so.”
Dominic Theobald: ‘Paintings and Etchings’ Private View: 18th November, 4-6pm Runs from: 18th November - 17th January 2019. A selection of work produced at Ditchingham over the last decade. His colourful images derive from a variety of sources including cartoon forms, music and plant structures. He has exhibited widely in this country, as well as in Europe and the USA.
