JEWELLERy REcycLING If you have jewellery that you no longer want we can send it for re-cycling. Any item of jewellery, broken items, single earring, cufflinks etc. could be of value to us so please do have a clear out of your jewellery box, hand in unwanted items to the Guild Box Office.

WELcOME The year 2012 is a landmark one for Greenock Arts Guild Ltd, we will say goodbye to Campbell St and reopen at The Beacon with the very best of facilities for performing arts and a beautiful river view Bistro. Everyone who has performed on the stage, taken part in activities or seen shows at the Arts Guild Theatre or Wallace Bennett Studio will have feelings about their closing but from now until June they will be going strong, providing an excellent service to all who come to enjoy the programme. You will find here all the good things you’ve come to expect from your Guild favourites plus some first time visitors from the wealth of Scotland’s creative talent and we are ready to take your booking for springtime entertainment. In 1951 there was much to celebrate with the Festival of Britain in London and Glasgow and in Greenock the Arts Guild Gala heralded the first theatre opening in Scotland for 25 years. In 2012 we have the unique opportunity to say thank you to Inverclyde’s first centre for the arts with our ‘Festival of the Guild’. There are many ways to take part as these celebrations transport you back in time to enjoy all the glitz, glamour and style of the 40’s and 50’s through theatre, film, music and dance. I look forward to seeing you there.

OUR HOUSE - Music and lyrics by Madness First presented in London in 2002, OUR HOUSE combines a witty and brilliantly-crafted romantic tale with the energetic and often madcap songs of Madness. Our House is the story of Joe Casey who, on the night of his sixteenth birthday, takes Sarah, the girl of his dreams, out on their first date. In an effort to impress her with bravado, he breaks into a building site overlooking his home on Casey Street, which is owned by Mister Pressman, a highend property developer. The police turn up, at which point Joe’s life splits into two: the Good Joe, who stays to help, and Bad Joe, who flees. On the 27th December 1936 in a penthouse suite high above the streets of New York a meeting took place between a young, beautiful and very much in demand actor, John Gielgud, and the playwright Edward Sheldon. It was to change both their lives forever. Gielgud wrote ‘I had an extraordinary time this afternoon. Edward Sheldon who wrote ‘Romance’ and other successful plays has been stricken with some appalling petrifying paralysis for fourteen years and is blind too. All the well known stage people go to see him, talk to him and act scenes from their plays and ask his advice...he talks with consummate ease and charm, as if he had known you all his life... This June we will honour the Arts Guild’s 65 year history with a week of performances which take us back in time with music, theatre, dance and movies from the theatre’s early days. AccESS TO THE ARTS GUILD THEATRE
LATEcOMERS Please ensure you allow sufficient time to arrive at the theatre. Latecomers may not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance, which may be the show interval. This is entirely at the discretion of the Duty Manager and the performing company. Please note that when allowed to enter, latecomers may not be able to occupy their allocated seat until the interval.
AccESS fOR WHEELcHAIR USERS Wheelchair access is available in the stalls of our main theatre. There are five dedicated spaces for wheelchair users. To ensure availability, advance booking is strongly recommended. Wheelchair users can access the main auditorium at the side of the building, nearest to Brougham Street.
By ROAD The Arts Guild Theatre, Campbell Street is just off the A770 as it passes through the west end of Greenock (see Map). We have parking spaces for around 25 cars at the rear of the theatre but otherwise parking in the surrounding area isn’t too much of a problem. It is a residential area so please try not to annoy our neighbours by parking in front of their driveways and making lots of noise etc.
GUIDE DOGS ARE WELcOME Please inform us at the time of booking if you plan to bring a guide dog.
INDUcTION LOOP Induction loop systems are provided. All seats benefit from the induction loop.
By TRAIN Our local station in Greenock West (see Map) with a frequent service on the Glasgow Central/Gourock line. Journey times from Glasgow are approx 30 or 45 mins and currently run until after 11pm (an hour earlier on Sundays). See www.scotrail.co.uk
