“Coming from a woodturning background I grew up with beautiful handmade pieces and homeware. The variations in woods are abundant, I have yet to meet anyone who isn’t drawn to the tactile quality wood has, the warmth it can bring to a home and connection it brings back to our environment is something I hope is evident in my work.”

The range now encompasses carved birds, fine decorative boxes, jewellery, and Christmas decorations - all handcrafted by luthier and woodworker Geoff Coates in his Vale of Glamorgan workshop.

My paintings are contemporary landscapes and exploring the area within an hour's drive from my home offers everything from the wide, watery vistas of the Severn Estuary to the remotest parts of the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons.

However, the huge skies and distant views from Llanishen village are ever-changing and as atmospheric skies are my favourite subject, I often don’t need to leave the house to find plenty of inspiration!

Formerly a children’s book illustrator, I enjoy the freedom that landscape painting brings, especially when I take my paints and easel for a day painting in plein-air!

Helen creates a range of quirky animals, featuring hares, donkeys, cats, dogs and ponies. Sometimes they wear a disguise or costume, a mask, a hat, theatrical make up ect. The artist explores the way that we humans often try to hide our true selves or vulnerabilities behind a mask or facade, pretending or taking on other characteristics.

Helen uses a range of hand building techniques and each piece is unique and individual. Sometimes they are wall hanging and others freestanding. She makes from a small studio at her home in South Wales and has recently enjoyed producing special commissions of pet portraits.

Sarah recently visited Marrakech on a very intense workshop run by Nicholas Wilton of Art2Life, using acrylics in a more abstract style. Meeting with fellow artists from around the world. It has given her a thirst for more free painting in mixed media and the courage to experiment further.

This was followed by a stay in Marrakech city in a Riad exploring the Souks, gardens and traditional areas. Definitely an experience for the senses! and a lot of material for future artwork some abstract some more traditional. Perhaps using some of the pigments bought in the Souk.
