Jane A Edwards

Since retiring from a career in education, I finally have the time to pursue my interest in drawing, painting and mixed media.

I have attended local art classes over the years when time allowed but retirement has given me the freedom to attend classes and workshops both locally and further afield on a regular basis where I have been introduced to a wide variety of mediums and techniques as well as styles, taught by a range of artists ranging from hyperrealism used for animal portraits to semi abstract interpretations for landscapes.

I am very fortunate to live in a beautiful, area within easy reach of the Brecon Beacons National Park with its ancient woodlands, open mountains and canals as well as the contrasting landscape on its border still bearing the scars of our rich industrial past.

Both offer a very different beauty and I feel inspired to capture both within my art.

Time spent in semi-isolation during Lockdown gave me more opportunity to combine my love of walking and photography which inspires my work.

I am fortunate to have a small studio in my garden, complete with a wood burner for the chillier seasons, which offers me peace and quiet away from life’s everyday distractions. I have created animal portraits in the past using watercolour and coloured pencils but I now prefer to spend my time exploring ways of combining new techniques.
