Time and Tide by Jane Paice

Life: Full Colour welcomes Jane Paice to the yellow gallery this April for her first solo exhibition in our Caernarfon home.

“Time and Tide” is a collection of work inspired by the magnificence of the sea surrounding Jane’s home on the Isle of Anglesey.

The paintings, which are oil or mixed media and semi-abstract in nature, utilise bold, dramatic seascapes to remind us of the fragility of being human.

Jane says: “Time and Tide” explores my interpretation of the relentless energy and dynamic nature of the sea juxtaposed with the fleeting passage of our time on earth and the echoes and footprints we leave behind.”

The sea has been a strong theme in Jane’s work since she began pursuing art full-time. “The sea is where I feel closest to those precious people I have known and loved and who have gone before me to a place I cannot reach and cannot see.

“My eldest son passed away a few years ago and I often feel I am reaching out to him in my paintings, attempting to bridge the gap between us.”

Rather than a literal interpretation of the surrounding landscape, Jane’s work hints at shapes and forms with her bold use of colour and marks. Her work features many shades of blues, purples and greys, as well as splashes of earthy reds and oranges, but there is always a ray of light that shines through.

“I have dark, moody paintings that might have started with sadness or despair, but I always add colour and life into my work. I want to show there is hope no matter how bad things may seem. I also like to create ambiguity in my work so that it can be interpreted in more than one way.”

The exhibition will feature more than 25 paintings, and will also include original poetry by Jane which will explore the emotions and sentiment behind this new body of work.
