FRITZ HATTON, AUCTIONEER Zachys Wine Auctions and Arietta Winery Auctioneer and Vintner, Napa, California Fritz Hatton and his immediate family own Arietta, one of Napa’s top producers of Bordeaux-style blended wines. He is also the nation’s most experienced wine auctioneer, having begun his career in Christie’s Wine Department in 1980. After a 12-year management career for Christie’s in North America and the Far East, Fritz took a musical sabbatical on the West Coast in the early 1990’s, and conducted his first auction for the Napa Valley Vintners in 1992. Out of his musical and wine country experiences, with winemaker friend John Kongsgaard, emerged a wine brand with a musically inspired name: Arietta. In 1995, Fritz returned to Christie’s as Director of Christie’s U.S. Wine Auction Department, and remained until he returned to California in 1998 to launch Arietta with his wife Caren. He remained with Christie’s as Consultant and Principal Wine Auctioneer before joining Zachys Wine Auctions in 2002. He continues to conduct all commercial wine auctions for Zachys, as well as numerous charity wine auctions nationwide, in addition to overseeing the production and sales of Arietta. Fritz and Caren reside in Napa, California with their two daughters, Libby and Hattie. Apart from family and wine, his major interest is classical music, and he is just as happy playing the piano as he is encouraging bidders to purchase wine for good causes.

LAURAL PORTER, MASTER OF CEREMONIES KGW-TV Laural Porter is a weeknight anchor at KGW in Portland. She also hosts KGW’s current affairs show, Straight Talk, which airs Saturday evenings. Laural joined KGW in 2000 after a varied career in broadcasting taking her from San Diego to Idaho and several places in between. In 2015 Laural won the Northwest regional Emmy for best host/moderator of Straight Talk. She won the regional Edward R. Murrow award for feature reporting in 2015 and the prestigious national Edward R. Murrow award for feature reporting in 2011. Laural has run the Portland Marathon several times and qualified for the Boston Marathon, which she ran in record heat in 2004. Laural and her husband, Mike, have four children, whom she says are the light of her life.

DJ SHORT CHANGE Reception & After Party Dating back to the early 90’s, Short Change has been playing what the people want. Things all began growing up in Monmouth, Oregon, where he started DJ’ing his high school dances at Central High School. After graduation, a quick relocation to Portland laid the foundation for the future of his DJ’ing career. In 1999, Short Change started his radio show Reggae Revelation on KPSU, Portland State University’s radio station, which can still be heard every Sunday night. DJ’ing on the radio introduced him to playing in clubs and bars, which then led to working weddings, corporate events, and high school alumni dances. Short Change has expanded his musical selections throughout the years with a focus on keeping the crowd happy. Short Change has been honored to DJ many Classic Wine Auction events, including Corks + Forks, Day of Joy, Oregon Polo Classic, and now the Gala Auction.

AUCTION NIGHT CHEFS

SARAH SCHAFER Executive Chef/Partner, Irving Street Kitchen JOEY GIBSON Chef/Owner, Parallel Food & Drink

ALLAN WAMBAA Executive Chef, pacificwild Catering, Oregon Convention Center Executive Chef Allan Wambaa is a highly experienced chef with nearly a decade and a half of experience working in the food industry at restaurants on three continents. Born in Nairobi, Kenya, his culinary exposure started in his family’s restaurant. Allan later attended culinary college at The Career Training Centre in Nairobi. Allan joined the team at pacificwild catering at the Oregon Convention Center in 2011 and is currently the Executive Chef for all Metropolitan Exposition Recreation Commission venues.

Joey grew up northwest of Atlanta, Georgia and enrolled in culinary school directly after graduating high school. After working for a couple years in Georgia and South Carolina, he jumped at an opportunity to move to New York City. After eight years of the grinding big-city cook life, he moved to Portland. Joey was a sous chef at Roman Candle Baking Co. and Olympia Provisions before committing full time to raising his daughter. He also took this time to launch his dream of starting his own project, Parallel Food & Drink. His southern roots, New York training, and mentorship by farm-driven chefs have given him a cooking style that is a seasonally-driven combination of comfort and fine dining.

Born in London, Ryley was influenced by travels and work in countless restaurants in North Carolina, Barcelona, Manhattan, and Central America. After moving his family to Portland and a stint at Olympia Provisions, he took over the kitchen at DOC where he further honed his style. Landing at Quaintrelle signifies all the puzzle pieces coming together, where he can create beautiful, unpretentious dishes with as much direct connection to farm, oceans and ranches possible. 3 2 C L A S S I C W I N E S A U C T I O N .C O M

After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 1993, Sarah began working under some of the most respected chefs in the restaurant industry. She became the youngest and first female Sous Chef at Gramercy Tavern in New York City and was instrumental in the opening of the famed Eleven Madison Park After several years in the Bay Area, the Pacific Northwest beckoned and in 2010, Irving Street Kitchen was born.

MAT THEW SIGLER Executive Chef, Il Solito

ALTHEA GREY POT TER Executive Chef, Oui! Wine Bar + Restaurant at the Southeast Wine Collective

RYLEY ECKERSLEY Executive Chef, Quaintrelle

Sarah guides guests through a story of past and present via a marriage of her East and West coast influences. She is one of Portland’s powerhouse female chefs, always on the cutting edge of the local food scene with standout, casually elegant American cuisine.

Althea has been a food enthusiast since she was very young. She got her first job in a restaurant at a small town roadside stand at age 15 and eventually bought a one-way ticket to Portland and enrolled at the Oregon Culinary Institute. At Oui! Wine Bar + Restaurant, Althea creates big flavors out of a tiny kitchen nestled inside the SE Wine Collective wine cellar. Her creative takes on global flavors have garnered attention at the oeno-bistro near and far. Since opening in 2017, her work at Oui! has received recognition as one of Portland Monthly Magazine’s Best New Restaurants 2018, a Best New Restaurant by Time Out, and one of Portland’s Best New Restaurants Top 5 Dishes of 2018 by the Portland Mercury.

The grandson of Nebraska dairy farmers, Matthew figured out early where he wanted to focus his culinary aristry: hand-crafted pastas, whole animal butchery, seasonal ingredients, rustic preparations. A graduate of Le Cordon Bleu College of College of Culinary Arts in San Francisco, Matthew trained at some of the Bay Area’s top restaurants. As Executive Chef at Portland’s Renata, Matthew developed the relationships with local farmers, ranchers and artisans that now enrich his work at Il Solito.

SARA WOODS Executive Chef, Vaux at the Canopy Portland Born and raised in Michigan, Sara attended the Culinary Institute of America in upstate New York, which led her to work at some of the most renowned restaurants in New York City. She made her way to Portland to experience the thriving Pacific Northwest culinary scene. After several years as Jenn Louis’ chef de cuisine at Lincoln and Ray, Woods joined the Canopy team.

GABRIEL RUCKER Executive Chef/Co-Owner, Le Pigeon and Canard AARON BARNET T Executive Chef / Owner, La Moule & St. Jack SANDRA ARNERICH Executive Chef, Renata A Colombian native, Sandra moved to the US to attend college. Food and wine were always part of her life and in 2005 Sandra moved to Canada where she enrolled in the Culinary Management Program at Fanshawe College. While in school Sandra secured an internship at The French Laundry where she later worked as dining room expeditor. More recently Sandra worked as a captain at three-star Michelin Benu in San Francisco.

After graduating from the California School of Culinary Arts’ Cordon Bleu, Aaron Barnett completed an externship in his native Canada at Lumiere in Vancouver, BC, and was immediately taken with the flavors and produce available in the Pacific Northwest. After working in Portland kitchens for a couple of years, he opened St. Jack in 2010. Aaron was acknowledged with the Portland Rising Star award in 2011, and received a nod from James Beard in 2012. In 2015, Barnett opened his second project, La Moule, a Belgian-inspired gastropub.

Two-time James Beard Award winning Chef Gabriel Rucker’s edgy, highly original, and recipe-free masterpieces have gained him both regional and national acclaim. In 2003, Gabriel landed a coveted job at Paley’s Place and, after two years moved on to the Gotham Tavern as Sous Chef. In 2006, he opened Le Pigeon and became an overnight success. In 2018, Gabriel and Andrew Fortgang opened Canard, which quickly became one of the most buzzed about openings nationwide, winning “Restaurant of the Year” titles from The Oregonian and Portland Monthly, in addition to a James Beard Award nomination for Best New Restaurant and many other accolades.

DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION

These magnums are extremely rare—they are two of only six made, and they are not publicly available. They are also two of the highest rated wines from Oregon in the 2017 vintage, as rated by Wine Spectator.

Tee up for a great outing with Portland Trail Blazers star and University of Portland Coach Terry Porter. He will join as a member of your foursome for a round of golf at the beautiful Tualatin Country Club.

Rose & Arrow Estate speaks to the foundational belief in the pleasure of paradoxes, between opposing forces of love and war. The “rose” and “arrow”, innately connected yet conflicting, each defined by the existence (or absence) of the other. Favorite wines make us appreciate the harmony of opposites: acid/sweet, simple/complex, solid rock/sprouting vine. The latter is where the narrative begins, as every great wine is ignited by unique tensions in the rock of its origin.

2. Full payment must be made for all purchases at the conclusion of the Auction.

6. Unless specified, all Auction items expire on March 7, 2021 and are not available on March 13, 2021.

PRE-REGISTRATION

7. CWA is not responsible for gift certificate or gift cards for businesses or organizations that are no longer in business or are unable to honor gift certificate or gift cards due to changed financial circumstances or other issues.

Pre-registering saves time by eliminating the need to stop at the Cashier at the end of the Auction. To sign up, follow the directions below:

8. For packages that require the buyer to communicate with the donor, CWA will release the buyer’s name and contact information to that donor.

REGISTER PAYMENT INFORMATION BEFORE THE AUCTION: All registered guests should have received an email from Classic Wines Auction in February with a link to the pre-registration page. If you did not receive this email or cannot locate it, please visit: classicwinesauction.com/guests REGISTER PAYMENT INFORMATION NIGHT OF THE AUCTION: 1. GIF TS OF STOCK Purchases at the Classic Wines Auction (CWA) may be made with pre-credited gifts of stock. CWA makes no representations as to tax deductibility. Please consult your tax advisor in this regard. Please follow the steps below for transferring gifts of stock. BEFORE THE AUCTION 1. Contact CWA at least one week prior to the Auction if you wish to begin the evening with a pre-credited “account balance.” The stock identified will be sold immediately upon receipt of notice and your bidder number will be credited with the amount of the stock sale. A receipt will be provided for the difference between the value of the stock at the time of sale and the amount of your Auction purchases. 2. If Auction purchases are more than the pre-credited account balance, you are responsible for paying the difference as outlined in the Payment section of these guidelines. If your Auction purchases are less than the pre-credited account balance, the CWA will reimburse you the difference within 30 days of the Auction.

CONDITIONS OF PURCHASE 1. The Classic Wines Auction, herein the “seller,” reserves the right to refuse admission to, orattendance by, any person at the Auction or related events.

9. CWA respectfully declines refund requests made after April 30, 2020. Buyers are encouraged to review all receipts carefully and thoroughly immediately following the Auction.

BIDDING 1. All bids are per lot as set forth in the catalog unless otherwise announced by the auctioneer. 2. Seller may combine or divide any lot(s) at its sole discretion. 3. Auctioneer and seller have the right to reject any bid at any time prior to the “fall of the hammer” without liability. If the auctioneer determines that any opening bid is not commensurate with the value of the article offered, auctioneer may reject the same and withdraw the item from sale, and if, having acknowledged an opening bid, auctioneer decides that any advance thereafter is insufficient, auctioneer may reject the advance. 4. No live auction bid shall be valid unless acknowledged by the auctioneer. 5. The highest bidder acknowledged during the live or silent auctions shall be the buyer and therein assumes full risk and responsibility. 6. By raising a bidder paddle, the bidder warrants that s/he will pay the full purchase price if successful. 7. The auctioneer shall have the absolute right to resolve any dispute, re-offer, resell, or withdraw the lot in question. If any dispute arises after the sale, the seller’s sale records shall be conclusive in all respects. 8. Absentee bidding is offered by the seller for the convenience of those unable to attend. Auction rules as stated apply to those bidding in absentee, as well as to those actually in attendance. Auctioneer and seller are not responsible for any errors or omissions in connection with such bids. 9. All lots offered for sale may be subject to a confidential minimum price below which such lot will not be sold. 10. Silent and super silent auction bid closing times will be posted. At close, the highest acknowledged bidder shall be deemed to have purchased the lot.

2. The auctioneer is the agent for the seller. 3. All wine is sold “as is.” Prospective buyers will be bidding only as a result of their own inspection and opinion. 4. Seller does not warrant or represent, and expressly denies responsibility for, and in no event shall be responsible for, the accuracy or description of wines offered, or the correctness of CL ASSIC WINES AUCTION 2020 103

AUCTION PURCHASE GUIDELINES

G E N E R A L I N F O R M AT I O N

AUCTION PURCHASE GUIDELINES ITEM PICK UP & SHIPPING 1. Purchases should be picked up by the buyer prior to leaving the Convention Center at the conclusion of the Auction. Buyers will receive a receipt listing their purchases and after reviewing and approving the receipt, will pick up their items. Item Pick Up closes at 10:30 p.m. 2. Extremely large wine lots or heavy items may be scheduled for pick-up on Sunday, March 8 between 10 a.m and 12 p.m at the Oregon Convention Center. Delivery is also available.

3. Unless specifically set forth, all Auction items expire on March 7, 2021 and are not available March 13, 2021. 4. All reservations (air, rental cars, lodging, etc.) must be made within dates specified in supporting documentation and as contained in the auction package. 5. Once a trip is scheduled and confirmed by the buyers, changes may not be allowed by the donors.

3. Any items not removed will be held for three (3) days at the office of the Classic Wines Auction, 919 NE 19th Ave #160, Portland, OR 97232, before being taken to storage for which the buyer will be charged at standard storage rates.

If you wish to change or cancel any portion of the trip, CWA will make a reasonable effort to assist you with rescheduling. However, if the change or canceling of any feature results in the donor being unable to honor the requested changes, CWA will not refund any portion of the lot purchase.

4. If the foregoing conditions are not complied with, the seller has the legal option to do the following: (a) hold the buyer legally liable for the bid price, (b) cancel the sale, or (c) resell the property on three days’ notice to the buyer. The buyer shall be liable for payment of any deficiency, all other charges due hereunder, and incidental damages.

6. PLEASE NOTE: If a buyer donates a travel package purchased at CWA to another nonprofit or it is resold to another person, buyer assumes ALL risk. CWA will not be responsible for honoring any elements contained in travel packages purchased outside CWA.

5. Buyer shall incur all shipping and insurance costs for items not picked up at the conclusion of the Auction.

CERTIFICATE ITEMS

6. Out-of-state bidders shall be familiar with the laws of their locality since shipping regulations, especially those pertaining to alcoholic beverages, vary from state to state. 7. In the event of loss or damage to any lot, incurred in the course of its handling or storage during the auction event and before possession is taken by the buyer, the buyer will be compensated as follows: 1) if the lot has not been paid for, the exact amount of the bid will be subtracted from the buyer’s purchases; or 2) if the lot has been paid for, the buyer will receive a refund of that bid amount.

TRAVEL PACK AGE STIPUL ATIONS Before bidding, please read carefully the following conditions of purchase for all travel packages. Travel packages sold through the CWA contain only those elements bulleted in the auction lot description. 1. Air travel must not be interrupted. All airfare is to be booked point-to-point. Any changes or additions to travel will be at the buyer’s expense. This condition also applies to rental cars or other ground transportation not included in the auction lot description. 2. Expiration dates are NOT flexible. Expiration dates have been carefully selected by the donors involved. To request an extension beyond the expiration date could place undue burden on the donor and jeopardize future donations to CWA.

1. Certificates will be mailed to winning bidder by mail within three weeks of the Auction. 2. CWA assumes no responsibility for loss or misplacement of certificate(s) once winning bidder has taken possession. MEDIA COVERAGE: As a condition of and in consideration for participation in Classic Wines Auction events, guests release Classic Wines Auction from any liability connected with the reproduction, adaptation, display, publication, and distribution, in any and all media, whether now known or yet to be developed, of any videos, photographs or other images taken of the guest at the auction or any related events. First Growth Children and Family Charities, Inc. (d.b.a. Classic Wines Auction) is classified as a tax-exempt corporation (Tax I.D. Number is 20-1260228) under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501 (c)(3). To contact Classic Wines Auction: 919 NE 19th Ave #160, Portland, OR 97232 503.972.0194 classicwinesauction.com
