Cast Bios HALLIE ANN BARTELL SOLDIER NWCT welcomes Hallie to the stage after her performance as Thing 2 in The Cat in the Hat. She has also appeared in the Ensemble of School of Rock with Stages Performing Arts Youth Academy, as King Azaz in The Phantom Tollbooth with Voice for Voiceless, and The Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz: Young Performers Edition with Theater in the Grove. Hallie is a freshman at Portland Community College, and loves to dance and train her new puppy, Cowboy. She thanks her family.

RYLIE ELIZABETH BARTELL SOLDIER Rylie is glad to make her Mainstage debut. AUDREY CAMPBELL SOLDIER Audrey is glad to be back on the Mainstage after performing in the Ensemble of Cinderella and The Wizard of Oz, and as Young Fiona/Shoe Maker’s Elf in Shrek. As a member of Studio NW, Audrey played Sir Gallahad in Spamalot and Bernard in Brave New World, and trained in Comedia del Arte, viewpoints, stage combat, and music theory. An eighth grader at Stoller Middle School, she thanks her parents and brother for their love and support, as well as Amy Aronson, Dustin Brown, and Sarah Jane for all they’ve done to help her grow as both a performer and person.

ATHENA CHEN BANDIT NWCT welcomes Athena for her Mainstage debut. She has previously appeared as Chutney in Legally Blonde Jr. and The Narrator in Andy Shane and the Very Bossy Dolores Starbuckle. Athena is the eighth grade at West Sylvan Middle School, and also takes math courses at Lincoln High School. She is an all-star cheerleader and a practicer of Tang Soo Do martial arts.

ISAAC ELLINGSON BANDIT Isaac made his Mainstage debut in The Wizard of Oz, and appeared as the Clown in The 39 Steps, an ensemble member in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Caliban in The Tempest with Hillsboro High School. An OCT Young Professional, he first began his theatrical training at Stages Performing Arts Youth Academy. When he’s not onstage, Isaac enjoys reading, archery, and procrastinating. He thanks his parents for tolerating eight years of nonstop theater.

ZERO FEENEY BANDIT KING Zero is a graduate of the Portland Actor’s Conservatory and Lewis and Clark College. He was last seen on the NWCT stage playing Shinigami in Snow White, and also appeared as Baloo in the world premiere of The Jungle Book.

Other performances include Robert in Twilight’s production of Boeing Boeing, Mister Phelan in defunkt theatre’s production of Second Hand Smoke, Derek in Milagro Theatre’s production La Noche Eterna, the Pirate Noodler in NWCT’s 2014 production of Peter Pan, and Grasshopper in NWCT’s production of James and the Giants Peach. GOWRI GANESH BANDIT Gowri is delighted to make her NWCT debut. She has trained in Bharatanatyam dance since the age of 5, and has performed at many events, including as Nick Bottom in a dance adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Anjali School of Dance. Gowri is in the sixth grade at Stoller Middle School, and enjoys reading, arts and crafts, and gymnastics.

RILEY HOLMES BANDIT Riley is thrilled to be back at NWCT after appearing as Gray in last season’s Robin Hood. She has also performed as Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical Jr. with Voices for the Performing Arts, and Tiny Tim/Fan in A Christmas Carol at Sherwood High School, where she is a sophomore. An NWCT Intern and OCT Young Professional, Riley is also a dancer who enjoys surfing. She sends thanks to her directors, instructors, and family for supporting her continuous growth.

HEATH HYUN HOUGHTON MADAN Heath is a director, actor, and playwright, who earned a B.A. from Humboldt State University and spent time in South Korea, studying physical theatre and modern dance along with traditional Korean theatre styles. CHAO-YU LIN BANDIT NWCT welcomes Chao-Yu for her Mainstage debut! Previous NWCT shows include Studio Jr.’s Honk! (Grace/Soloist), and Romeo and Juliet (Lord Montague), and Kids Co.’s A Peanut’s Holiday (Eudora). She also performed in the Ensemble of Anne of Green Gables with Journey Theater Arts Group. A seventh grader at Odyssey Middle School, Chao-Yu is a violinist with the Portland Youth Philharmonic.

SUDIPTA MAJUMDAR VASANT Sudipta Majumdar has trained in Indian Classical dance forms since the age of 3, and received her ‘Vishaarad’ in Katthak from Nritya Natya Parishad (India) in 1997. Initially trained under Guru Karabi Sharma, she was accepted with a scholarship at Benaras Hindu University to train in the nuances of Benaras and Lucknow Gharana performing arts. In the past decade, Sudipta has travelled extensively and performed across India and United Kingdom. A Masters in Medical Genetics and alumnus of Fergusson College (India) and University of Glasgow (Scotland), Sudipta also works full-time in the pharmaceutical industry. She is currently a resident of Hillsboro, Oregon and trains in Bharatnatyam under Anita Menon.

ADHIRA MALLADI ADHIRA Adhira is delighted to make her mainstage debut! A performer since age three, Adhira is trained in classical Indian dancing and singing, and has won contests in both. A seventh grader at Stoller Middle School, she also enjoys reading, listening to music, photography, and painting. She thanks her sister Snighda, who has also performed at NWCT.

LAVINIA MARTIN-WEBER SOLDIER Lavinia is the second girl of seven kids. Since her dramatic entrance into the world, Lavinia has been an actress. She was recently seen in The Wizard of Oz, Shrek and the Studio NW's production of Rock the Presidents. Her favorite roles to date are Veruca Salt in A.D. Players’ Willy Wonka, Jr., and as Mom’s Leg in NWCT’s The Cat in the Hat. Lavinia’s favorite activities include reading, writing, performing, working with Interns NW, and spending time with her family. She thanks all of her teachers, especially Mr. Neswick and the Trinity Episcopal Choir crew for being graciously flexible when it comes to other shows.

ALISHA MENON CHITRA NWCT welcomes Alisha back to the stage after her performance as Rann in The Jungle Book. She also appeared with NWCT as Melody in Peter Pan and in the Ensemble of Seussical, and as Janaki Dev Balan in Anjali School of Dance’s Murder on the Ganges. The eighteen year old is a senior electrical engineering student at Arizona State University. She thanks her mother for being her inspiration, and NWCT for telling Chitra’s story.

AVISH MENON RAJE Avish is delighted to return to the NWCT stage after starring as Mowgli in The Jungle Book. He also appeared in other Mainstage shows at NWCT as Twin in NWCT’s Peter Pan, Herb in NWCT’s Junie B. Jones, as well as shows at various other theaters including: Schwartz in A Christmas Story with Portland Center Stage, Jack the Narrator in The Stinky Cheeseman and other Fairly Stupid Tales with Oregon Children’s Theater, and Himmat Singh in Murder on the Ganges with Anjali School of Dance. Avish attends Arizona State University’s online Electrical Engineering program. He thanks his family for all their support and Sarah Jane, Anita Menon, and NWCT for this great opportunity.

GABE PORATH BANDIT Gabe is glad to be back on the Mainstage after performing as Niko/ Munchkin in The Wizard of Oz and in the ensemble of Shrek. Other favorite roles include Alan in God of Carnage with Columbia Gorge School of Theater, and Steve in Goosebumps with Oregon Children’s Theater. Gabe is also a member of Studio NW at NWCT.

ARSHIA RAJESHNARAYANAN SOLDIER Arshia is pleased to make her NWCT debut. 14 years old, Arshia is a 8th grader at Stoller Middle School. She enjoys piano, art, and dancing, and has trained at the Navarasa School of Dance for eight years. She thanks her Bharatanatyam Dance Teacher, Radhika Narayon, for all of her instruction.

SANYA SURYA SOLDIER Sanya is thrilled to make her NWCT debut. She has previously performed in the ensemble of Murder on the Ganges, and as the Changeling Boy in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Anjali School of Dance. Sanya made her solo dance debut in Bharatanatyam Dance last year, and is a classically trained vocalist and instrumentalist. She is currently a freshman at Westview High School and on the school’s dance team.

KEN YOSHIKAWA ARJUN NWCT welcomes Ken for his Mainstage debut. Previous performances include Twelfth Night with Oregon Adventure Theater (Malvolio/Antonio/Covio), Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles with Oregon Shakespeare Festival/Portland Center Stage (Soldier), You For Me For You at Portland Playhouse (Doctor/Clerk), and After the War Blues with Theater Diaspora (Mr. Oji). Ken holds a B.A. in Theater Arts from Reed College and is an ‘07 Oregon Shakespeare Festival “Semmie.” He can be found writing and performing poetry around the city, and thanks his family, friends, and teachers.

The Origins of

Chitra

Chitra’s story began long before her first appearance at NWCT. Our heroine, whose full name is Chitrangadha, first appeared as part of the Mahabharata, an epic myth from ancient India. Five thousand years later, Chitra was given new life by a storyteller named Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore is an Indian cultural icon—a singer, composer, writer, educator, dancer and actor, and the first person from Asia to win the Nobel Prize for Literature! Tagore was ahead of his time, and known for breaking down cultural boundaries. In 1892, he created a dance-drama called Chitrangadha, which put the story of the princess front and center. The story was met with great success, and Chitra became a much-beloved character across India and the world. Fast forward another hundred years or so, and you’ll see how Chitra wound up on the NWCT stage. Directors Sarah Jane Hardy and Anita Menon had just finished their 1 2015 production of The Jungle Book, and were eager to work together on another piece that fused the worlds of western theater and Indian dance. Inspired by Tagore’s progressive spirit, and NWCT’s tradition of re-making classic tales, the two decided to take on the story of Chitra. After close collaboration with playwright Avantika Shankar and an incredible team of theater artists, musicians, and dancers from both the Portland Bengali community and India, the story of Chitra: The Girl Prince is ready for the stage. While her tale may be ancient, this production confronts many issues that we grapple with today; gender roles, duty to family and to country, and our never ending road to self-discovery. We hope you enjoy watching this play as much as we enjoyed creating it.

QUESTION: Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

Avantika: I love sports! I swim and run, play tennis, I recently took up golf for a second, and do some lifting at the gym—being active is definitely a priority for me.

identity—it has to do with desire and duty. I think, for me, Chitra’s problem of identity—the fact that she has to choose between one future and another, based on who she chooses to be, as a person—was very real, as it probably is for everybody at some point in their lives. I think people can really relate to that.

Q: Can you describe your experience

mentors. They gave me my first ever chance to be a playwright, and are still sort of holding my hand as I navigate this new terrain. Working with NWCT was absolutely great, everyone is super warm and kind and welcoming and I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be allowed to be a small part of this community.

Q: What was your first experience of

Tagore’s version of Chitrangada? Did you consider the context of Tagore’s work or focus more on the context you are writing it today?

A: It’s impossible to read Tagore’s

original outside of the context of today— at a time when gender identity, gender expression and traditional gender roles are finally being talked about, explored, questioned, and laid claim to. The conversations are constantly in the air, they’re in my head, so it’s impossible to ignore that when you read the play, or when you adapt it for the modern-day audience. That being said, I think Tagore was far ahead of his time. There is something so deeply poignant about his writing, he lets the audience experience their own interpretation of who Chitra really is—what her dilemma really signifies. It is more than just a conflict of gender

creative process? What is your vision of the project? Ultimate goal? Is there a message you like to convey while writing a play? story I am trying to tell, and on where my roadblocks are, which are unique to every project I work on. First, of course, I read the original play. My workshop with Mahesh Dattani, one of India’s premiere playwrights, really helped get me on track in terms of identifying the core elements of my story—what the story was about, so to speak—and establishing a basic structure. I think getting the structure, the bones of the play, is really important—you’re putting yourself in a leash so you don’t stray too far away from the essence of your story. And there is character work—who is this? What do they want here? Why are they going about it like this, rather than that? As I write dialogue I sort of put on a voice and say the words out loud—sometimes even an accent helps! You can’t really do that in a coffee shop or library, though, or you may be politely asked to leave. My motivation, the thing that pushes me to type one word after another, is that there’s a story I want to tell, and I’m looking for the best possible way to tell it. At the end of the day, the message is whatever the audience wants it to be. The story is simply a vehicle for the audience to do that work—to live those experiences, to conquer those dilemmas—for themselves.

Q: Adapting an epic story for modern day

audiences is no easy task—what were some of the guiding principles that helped you along the way?

A: It is indeed tough to adapt an

epic story for a modern audience— more so because I am adapting it for an audience that isn’t from the culture of the original story. In India, the Mahabharata and Arjun are part of the cultural consciousness, they need no introduction. Now I’ve got to introduce Arjun—to create that cultural baggage that surrounds him, in a story that isn’t even about him. And then of course, the play deals with a lot of very mature themes—I could spend a lifetime adapting the play for different audiences, different communities, it’s so rich, it has so much nuance and complexity within it, it’s amazing. So I had to pick and choose what was relevant to the story I wanted to tell— and for that I, of course, needed to identify what it was that my play, my Chitra, was going to be about. Stories are universal, they defy culture and context. As long as you work backwards, bones first, you’re going in the right direction.

Q: What were some of the techniques you used to bridge time and culture?

A: When a story is good enough,

universal enough, it is in and of itself the bridge between time and culture— so you do justice to the story, and the rest sort of follows. I’ve lived in the States enough to know what is and isn’t instinctive cultural knowledge, so I know when to step back and explain something and I also know when to give the audience credit and say, “Maybe they’ll get that this is what this means, so let’s leave this here with zero explanation." And readings, and regular feedback help as well!

Q: Both Anita and Sarah are so excited

that you will be here for the opening of the show. How are you feeling about seeing your words on paper come to life?

A: Nervous, thrilled, excited, terrified!

Move with Chitra ! Chitra: The Girl Prince is filled with many different types of dancing and fighting. Here are some of the styles youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll see used onstage in this performance:

Chhau:

An athletic style of Indian dance that combines martial arts and folk dance that originated in the Indian states of Odissa, West Bengal and Jharkhand. The dances are typically depictions of stories from Hindu epics such as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.

Rabindra Nritya:

The dance style of the dramas written by Tagore, which use song and dance to tell epic tales.

Bollywood: Bharatanatyam:

This style of dance originated over 2,000 years ago in the temples of southern India. It combines complex footwork with a wide range of hand, eye, and face movements to tell stories.

Dandiya:

A style of dance used in Bollywood Films, or the Hindi language film industry. These films often feature exciting dance numbers that combine classical Indian dance, folk dance, and Western styles.

A style of Indian dance from the Gujarat and Rajasthan states in India. Dancers dance with two sticks (called the dandiya) and move in formations while tapping with others. Dandiya is usually performed during the Navaratri Festival celebrating the victory of good over evil.

A Word from the Fight Choreographer, Kristen Mun:

The fights for Chitra will have a few different styles because my training and background is a mix of different styles and cultures. Along with the research that we dug into for Chitra, the simple list is Aikido, Chhau, Japanese bo staff, Irish spear, French and Italian sword play, and a variety of mma techniques sprinkled throughout to give it flair. Anita has directed theatrical productions that are Indian adaptations of Classical Western plays including Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream as well as Agatha Christie’s Hercule, Poirot murder mystery Death on the Nile titled Murder on the Gange. Her productions are known for their big dance numbers using several styles of dance including Indian classical, folk, Ballet, HipHop, Jazz and Bollywood.

ANITA MENON DIRECTOR AND CHOREOGRAPHER Anita Menon is a director and choreographer who is recognized as one of the leading exponents of Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form originating in Southern India. Anita is the recipient of the prestigious Performing Arts Fellowship in 2014 from the Regional Arts and Culture Council (Portland, Oregon), the first Asian-American to receive this honor. As the Founder and Artistic Director of the Anjali School of Dance, her classical yet inventive approach, creates an exceptional style that is distinct, meaningful and appealing to diverse audiences around the world. Besides choreographing dances with strong women role models including Jhansi Ki Rani, Meerabhai and Chitrangadha, her passion has been to choreograph Western stories through Indian dance including Red Riding Hood,

In 2015, Anita and Sarah Jane codirected The Jungle Book at Northwest Children’s Theater, which subsequently received four Portland Area Musical Theater Award nominations and performed at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Green Show with the Consortium of Asian American Theaters and Artists. As a dancer, Anita has traveled the world delivering performances in the United States, India, France, United Kingdom, Malaysia and Singapore. Anita also serves on the board of the Northwest Children’s Theater as well as the Regional Arts and Culture Council.

SARAH JANE HARDY DIRECTOR AND CHOREOGRAPHER As the Artistic Director of Northwest Children’s Theater, Sarah Jane recently directed Mary Poppins which received 7 Drammy Awards including Best Director of a Musical, Best Choreographer, and Best Production of a Musical; and 6 Portland Area Musical Theater Awards including Outstanding Director and Outstanding Production. As a 2017 recipient of the Theater for Young Audience’s Ann Shaw Fellowship, Sarah Jane traveled to Indonesia to study under Balinese shadow puppet master, I Made Sadia.

Avantika Shankar is a writer based in Mumbai, India. She comes from a family that is dedicated to the arts, and grew up knowing she wanted to be a writer. She pursued her passion for the performing arts and writing with a degree in Dramatic Writing at NYU. Her Indian heritage, coupled with her exposure to American theatre arts practices has allowed her the unique opportunity to showcase Indian stories

creative team bios to Western audiences. Indeed, one of her first assignments after graduating was a collaboration with Anita Menon in 2014: Murder on the Ganges. Avantika workshopped Chitra: The Girl Prince at a writer’s workshop in Goa, India led by one of India’s premier playwrights, Mahesh Dattani, where she gained the insight she needed to adapt Rabindranath Tagore’s rather formidable Chitrangadha. Besides plays, Avantika writes about lifestyle, culture and travel for various publications. She is a regular contributor to Architectural Digest India.

KRISTEN MUN FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHER Kristen Mun has worked as a fight choreographer for over half a dozen theatre companies in the Portland area including Third Rail Repertory, Action Adventure, Profile Theatre, defunkt and Milagro. This is her first show with Northwest Children’s Theatre.

She has won Drammy Awards for her work on Danny in the Deep Blue Sea, Oedipus El Rey, and Henry IV Part I. Outside of Portland she has worked at Idaho Repertory Theatre, Utah Shakespeare Festival, and was the assistant fight choreographer at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for two seasons (9–10). Thank you to Sarah Jane and Anita for bringing her on to the Chitra team to spread the word that girls can fight, oh yes we can.

RODOLFO ORTEGA SOUND DESIGN AND COMPOSER Rodolfo has created compositions and sound design for numerous NWCT productions including the world premieres of The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, El Zorrito (recently published by Dramatic Publishing), Snow White, Pinocchio (multiple PAMTA winner) and Robin Hood, as well as James and The

Giant Peach, Swiss Family Robinson (2007 Drammy), and Frankenstein (2006 Drammy). In addition to receiving multiple Drammy Awards for individual productions, he received a Drammy in Sound Design and Composition for a Season of Outstanding Work (2000–01). Rody received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Arizona and his Master’s of Music from Manhattan School of Music, where he studied piano and composition. His compositions are frequently showcased at many of the Pacific Northwest’s premier theaters including NWCT, Artist Repertory Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and The Denver Center.

JOHN ELLINGSON SCENIC AND PROPERTIES/ WEAPONS DESIGN John is NWCT’s Associate Artistic Director, and his artistic stamp has been on every NWCT production since 2006. For NWCT, John has acted, devised, co-directed, taught classes, and designed and fabricated scenery, props, and puppets. Favorite productions include NWCT’s Starling series, for which John recently designed and fabricated 25 original puppets, and Mary Poppins, which was the recipient of 7 Drammy Awards including Outstanding Achievement in Properties Design; and 6 PAMTAs including Outstanding Set Designer. Other memorable productions include Elephant & Piggie, James and the Giant Peach (2013 Drammy recipient for Special Design), The BFG (2012 Drammy Award for Outstanding Mask Design), Busytown, Snow White, Pinocchio, The Wizard of Oz, Go, Dog. ANDRÉS ALCALÁ PROJECTION DESIGNER Andrés has designed video projections at NWCT for Robin Hood, The Wizard of Oz, Rock the Presidents, Snow White (Portland Area Musical Theatre Award for Outstanding Visual Design), Shrek the Musical, The Sun Serpent, The Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins; for the Interns NW productions The Yellow Boat and This is Me; and Second Stage productions of Hair, Metamorphoses, The Tempest, The Studio Zone, and A Chorus Line. Most recently he did animation projection work at Artists Repertory Theatre for Feathers and Teeth. At Miracle Theatre he created projections for Into the Beautiful North and Learn to Be Latina. For Childsplay in Arizona he designed Goodnight Night Moon, The Never Ending Story, and Miss Nelson is Missing. For Stray Cat Theatre in Arizona, he designed video

for Columbinus which received best production of the year. He created video animation and design for a new piece at Repetorio Espanol in New York. Andrés has received awards for acting and directing in Portland and Arizona, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Oregon University.

ROGER MONROE COMPANY STAGE MANAGER In addition to stage management (for which he has received multiple Drammy Awards) and co-directing NWCT’s Interns NW, Roger designs sets, lights, and properties for Main and Second Stage productions and Playlabs. Previously his work was seen in Sherlock Holmes, El Zorrito, Busytown, Rapunzel Uncut, The Hobbit (2009), The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Seussical, and The Magic Mrs. Piggle Wiggle (2002) for which he received a Drammy in Scene Design. Roger holds a B.S. in Theater Arts from Portland State University.

MAHESH DATTANI SCRIPT ADVISOR Mahesh Dattani is one of India’s premier playwrights today. He is also a stage director and filmmaker. In 1998 he won the Sahitya Akademi Award for his collection of plays. His writing credits include Dance Like a Man, Tara, Final Solutions, and more recently Gauhar. He has directed two feature films Mango Souffle and Morning Raga. He has also directed his plays 30 Days in September and The Big Fat City on film for Zee Theatre, currently showing on Netflix. He is also a workshop facilitator. Avantika Shankar has attended several of his workshops, most recently at Goa where Avantika developed Chitra: The Girl Prince.

BHASKAR GANGULY DRUMS AND PRODUCTION ADVISOR One cannot escape music when you are born in a family where both parents are professional musicians; music composer and choreographer (Father) and Classical dancer (Mother). Growing up, Bhaskar

Yet, the gene took over and he started enjoying music from both sides of the stage. KRISHNA GANGULY CHOREOGRAPHER, “SWAPNO MODIR NESHAY MESHA” Born into an illustrious family of Dhrupad singers and music lovers, Krishna showed a natural flair for music and dance from an early age. Later, as a student of Rabindra Bharati University at Kolkata, India, Krishna received direct tutelage from stalwarts and revered gurus in various Indian dance forms, undergoing in depth training in Bharatanatyam, from Guru Marutthappa Pillai, Kathakali, from Guru Kalamandalam Govindan Kutty, Manipuri,

from Guru Nadia Singh and Rabindra Nritya, from Guru Balakrishna Menon. In the early years of her career, Krishna toured extensively and performed nationally and internationally in lead roles of various Rabindranath’s dance dramas. Over the years, she considers herself fortunate to personally meet famous delegates visiting Tagore’s dream creation, Rabindra Bharati University, from all over the world. In time, Krishna created her own dance school in Kolkata and guided numerous students to zenith of their own personal achievements. She has been Principal of “Prangan” music academy in Kolkata, an empaneled examiner of esteemed music institution “Bangiya Sangeet Parishad” and external examiner of the same institution she graduated from “Rabindra Bharati University”. Since retired, she continues to mentor her daughter’s Dance institute in Kolkata and dole her valuable expertise to interested practitioners of Dance.

RITU GHOSAL PRODUCTION BLOGGER Ritu Ghosal moved to the US in 2014. She has a public health degree from the highly acclaimed London School of Economics after winning a scholarship from the prestigious Tata foundation. Her career-graph includes working at the prestigious Public Health Foundation of India, delivering innovative healthcare solutions to some of the remotest parts of the country. She is currently pursuing advanced courses at the Oregon Health and Sciences University. She has been an active member of the Indian community in Portland, taking part in several community programs over the years. She loves to travel and explore new cuisines. musicians “SWAPNO MODIR NESHAY MESHA” GORA GUPTA MUSIC ARRANGER Gora Gupta is one of the most revered guitarists, music composer and a music arranger of Bengal. He has directed music in two films, arranged music for more than 200 films and in more than 100 music albums. Recently he has composed title songs for several TV serials sung by Usha Utthup, Raghab Chatterjee, Indrani Sen and the likes. His background scores in those serials have been highly acclaimed. As a guitarist in his earlier life he accompanied famous singers like Manna Dey, Haimanti Sukla, Dwijen Mukherjee, Calcutta Youth Choir and many others.

Mita Kundu is an internationally acclaimed singer, crossing genres of Indian classical, devotional and folk music. Mita is regarded by music gurus as one of the most versatile singers of the Bengal region. Mita graduated in Rabindrasangeet (with Honors) from Rabindra Bharati University, a premiere music school in Kolkata. She is a recipient of “Sangeet Prabhakar” degree from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, a renowned music school in Allahabad, India. As Founder and Director of Sargam-USA, a music school in Portland, Oregon, Mita mentors youth and adults alike in reaching their musical potential. She is also the Executive Director of Sargam Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that funds underprivileged, talented musicians in India and U.S.A.
