C A ST B I O S SAM COHEN MAX THE PIRATE Thrilled to be back on the Mainstage, Sam previously appeared in the ensemble of Ezra Weiss' Cinderella, and in The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare: Abridged. He has trained in the theatrical arts for the past twelve years and is currently a second-year Intern at NWCT. A Junior at Westview High School, Sam enjoys singing, gaming and producing videos. He sends special thanks to his family and friends.

RILEY HOLMES JEREMY JACOB Thrilled to be back on the Mainstage, Riley previously appeared as an Ensemble Swing in Mary Poppins, a Bandit in Chitra: The Girl Prince and Gray in Robin Hood. She also recently appeared as Olive in Ella Enchanted at Oregon Children’s Theatre. Riley is a thirdyear member of both Interns NW and OCT Young Professionals and enjoys dancing, drawing, surfing, and yoga. A senior at Sherwood High School, Riley sends special thanks to her family and friends for supporting her in pursuing her dream, the cast, and crew for this opportunity, and all of her instructors who help her grow and inspire her to be better. HEATH KOERSCHGEN BRAID BEARD Heath is so excited to be making his debut with Northwest Children's Theater! He was most recently seen in Jason and the Argonauts with Oregon Children's Theatre (Drammy Award) and has performed locally with Artists Rep, Portland Center Stage, Lakewood Theatre, Theatre Vertigo, Corrib Theatre, Jewish Theatre Collaborative, Portland Shakespeare Project, NWCTC and the

Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Television/ film credits include: The Librarians, Grimm, The Wonderland Murders, Hatched. He is a graduate of Southern Oregon University (BFA). For Mom, Pauline, Clara, Roz and Nyx.

KEVIN-MICHAEL MOORE SHARKTOOTH Kevin most recently appeared at NWCT as The Scientist in The Starlings Present: Dinosaurs!, Smee in Peter Pan, The Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood, Professor Marvel and the Wizard in The Wizard of Oz, and as Magic Mirror in Snow White. Other memorable NWCT roles include Mr. Meineke in Little Red Riding Hood, Shere Khan in The Jungle Book, and Grandpa Joe in Willy Wonka. Kevin has been acting, directing, and performing regionally for over thirty years, performing in excess of 300 productions at Portland Center Stage, Artists Repertory Theatre, Lakewood Theatre, Triangle Productions, and others. He has toured nationally with The 3rd Floor Sketch Comedy Troupe, and can be seen on television shows Portlandia and Grimm, and on the big screen in the movie Wild and the upcoming film Timmy Failure.

RUBY MORGAN PIRATE PIERRE Ruby is thrilled to be making her mainstage debut! An 11th grader at Pacific Crest Community School, Ruby’s most recent role was Chip Tolentino in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at Columbia Gorge School of Theatre. She has also performed in various NWCT Second Stage programs, most notably as Sir Bedevere in Spamalot and Professor Plum in Mistletoe Mystery through Studio NW and Kids Co respectively. She gives special thanks to her parents and all the old and new friends theater has brought her.

CORDELIA ROUFFY PIRATE SEYMOUR B. Cordelia is excited to be back on the main stage after her roles in NWCT’s The Starlings Present: Dinosaurs and Studio NW’s Heathers. Cordelia is a sophomore at Lincoln High School, as well as a singer, songwriter and guitar player. She thanks her sister Libby, who is her greatest supporter, and fellow castmate!

LIBBY ROUFFY SWILL THE PIRATE Libby is delighted to return to the NWCT mainstage! A senior at Catlin Gable, Libby has performed many times on NWCT’s mainstage. Most recently she was a Squirrelle in Elephant and Piggie’s We Are in a Play! Other roles include Davey in Newsies at Catlin Gabel, the Wicked Witch in Shrek the Musical, and her PAMTA winning performance as Jane Banks in Mary Poppins. Libby also enjoys tap dancing. She would like to thank her parents for their love and support. She is honored to be in this production with her incredibly talented sister!

MAX YOUNG PIRATE SCURVY DOG Max is thrilled to be returning to the NWCT stage. He’s an 8th grader at da Vinci Arts Middle School. Credits include Max Bird in The Starlings Present: Amelia Earhart’s First Flight and The Wizard of Oz (NWCT), Nigel in Matilda the Musical (Lakewood Theater), Little Match Girl in The Little Match Girl, Passion, La Boheme, and Carmen, (Portland Opera), Ivar in A Doll’s House (Shaking the Tree Theatre). Max is a member of the OCT Young Professionals Company. He’d like to thank Andy, NWCT, his teachers, and his family for their support.

C R E AT I V E T E A M B I O S SARAH JANE HARDY PRODUCER As the Artistic Director of Northwest Children’s Theater, Sarah Jane recently directed Mary Poppins which received 7 Drammy Awards including Best Director of a Musical, Best Choreographer, and Best Production of a Musical; and 6 Portland Area Musical Theater Awards including Outstanding Director and Outstanding Production. She also enjoyed directing the world premieres of Chitra: The Girl Prince, Cinderella, The Starlings Present: Amelia Earhart’s First Flight, Sherlock Holmes, The Jungle Book, El Zorrito, Rapunzel Uncut, Snow White, Robin Hood, Pinocchio, Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Alice in Wonderland, and Hansel and Gretel; as well as The Wizard of Oz, Elephant & Piggie’s “We’re in a Play”, James and the Giant Peach, Seussical (2005/2012), Willy

Wonka, Go, Dog. Go!, Annie, Narnia (2010, 2004), Goodnight Moon, The Tragedy of Romeo & Juliet, Crazy for You, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and more. Other Portland work includes directing The Lesser Magoo for defunkt theatre (for which she received a Drammy) and The Secret Garden for Staged! As a 2017 recipient of the Theater for Young Audience’s Ann Shaw Fellowship, Sarah Jane traveled to Indonesia to study under Balinese shadow puppet master, I Made Sadia.

ANDRÉS ALCALÁ DIRECTOR / CHOREOGRAPHER / PROJECTION DESIGNER For NWCT, Andrés is no stranger to the mainstage as an actor, most recently appearing as Mr. Banks in Mary Poppins (2018). Previous appearances include the roles of Captain Hook in Peter Pan, Old Wise in The Starlings

Present: The Tail of Sleeping Beauty, Zeke/Lion in The Wizard of Oz, the title role in Shrek, and Tlememe in The Sun Serpent. How I Became a Pirate marks Andrés’ first NWCT mainstage production as the director. Other credits include Exiles at ART, Eyes for Consuela at Profile Theatre, and The Giver with OCT. Andrés was the recipient of a TCG New Generations grant and an NEA grant. This support enabled him to spend 7 years in Arizona as an Associate Artist working alongside David Saar, Artistic Director for Childsplay, where he directed the west coast premiere of Getting Near to Baby, With Two Wings, and the national tours of Go Dog Go! and Ferdinand the Bull in which he also played Ferdinand. For Stray Cat Theatre in Arizona, he designed video for Columbinus which received Best Production of the Year. He created video animation and design for a new piece at Repetorio Espanol in New York. He is also known for his work with Oregon Shakespeare Festival as an actor and as

C R E AT I V E T E A M B I O S a touring Educating Artist. He previously won a Portland Area Musical Theatre Award for his projection work on NWCT’s Snow White and Drammy Awards for his work as director of Shakespeare’s R&J at Triangle Productions and The Yellow Boat at Inside Out Theater Collective. He holds a BFA in Acting from Southern Oregon University in Ashland.

TRACY ROSS MUSICAL DIRECTION Tracy attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, U.C. Berkley and the Manhattan School of Music in New York where he earned a Master of Music degree. He has worked with the San Francisco Opera, Lamplighters and the Western Opera Theater. Since moving to Portland, Tracy has worked with NWCT, Oregon Ballet Theater, Pacific Festival Ballet, Stumptown Stages, and Broadway Rose Theater as well as appearing frequently in recital as a vocal accompanist.

JOHN ELLINGSON SET AND PROP DESIGNER John is NWCT’s Associate Artistic Director, and his artistic stamp has been on every NWCT production since 2006. For NWCT, John has acted, devised, co-directed, taught classes, and designed and fabricated scenery, props, and puppets. Favorite productions include the Starling series, for which John recently designed and fabricated over 25 original puppets, and the 2014 production of Mary Poppins, which was the recipient of 7 Drammy Awards including Outstanding Achievement in Properties Design; and 6 PAMTAs including Outstanding Set Designer. Other memorable productions include Elephant & Piggie, James and the Giant Peach (2013 Drammy recipient for Special Design), The BFG (2012 Drammy Award for Outstanding Mask Design), Busytown, Snow White, Pinocchio, The Wizard of Oz, Go, Dog. Go! and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. John studied puppetry in the U.K. as a recipient of the Portland Civic Theatre Guild’s Leslie O. Fulton Fellowship.

NANCY CHRISTY COSTUME DESIGNER Nancy is excited to be designing pirate attire once again! Currently NWCT’s Costume Shop Manager, she designed the updated version of Peter Pan in 2018. She also designed Rock the Presidents, The Cat in the Hat and the premiere of Sherlock Holmes. This is Nancy’s 10th year working for NWCT, starting with Mr. Beaver’s coat for Narnia in 2009. She has also done work for Artists Repertory Theatre, Broadway Rose Theatre, and Lakewood Theatre. She thanks John C. and John E.

CARL FABER LIGHTING DESIGNER Carl’s NWCT credits include Chitra: The Girl Prince, Mary Poppins, Elephant & Piggie, Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, and The Sun Serpent. Other recent Portlandarea credits include designs with Artists Rep (Magellanica, Between Riverside & Crazy, 4000 Miles), Third Rail (John, The Angry Brigade, The Realistic Joneses), Broadway Rose (Ordinary Days, Trails, Beehive), Profile Theatre (Fires in the Mirror, Water by the Spoonful, Orlando), and Oregon Children’s Theatre (Ella Enchanted). Carl has designed regionally and internationally with Arena Stage, Boston Institute of Contemporary Art, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Ars Nova, American Dance Festival, Theater Freiburg, and Shanghai Centre Theatre. He has worked in Touring Production for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, The National, and Bon Iver, and he is a Founding Member of the NYC-based immersive theater company, Woodshed Collective. Other notable positions include Light Artist at Eaux Claires Music Festival, Lighting Supervisor at the Williamstown Theatre Festival (20082009), and Assistant Lighting Designer for the Broadway productions of The Book of Mormon, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, and August: Osage County. He attended The Catlin Gabel School here in Portland and holds a B.A. in Drama from Vassar College where he was the recipient of the Kazan Prize. Awards: Drammy (2017, 2018, 2019), PAMTA (2019). JAKE NEWCOMB SOUND DESIGNER Jake is thrilled to be back for another season at NWCT. There are few things he likes more than making a room sound great, and sharing his work with an audience. Jake has mixed shows at Portland Center Stage, The Newmark Theater, and has filled the role of Co-Sound-Designer for Artist Rep’s productions of Magellanica and It’s a Wonderful Life. He recently worked on the audio team for the 2018 Pickathon music festival, which included 3 days of music and camping on a farm in Happy Valley, Oregon. In the summer of 2017, Jake served as the Chief Audio Engineer for the Tony Award winning show The Lost Colony, located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. As a freelance engineer, he records podcasts, voiceovers, commercials and musical acts within the Portland area. Some clients include BBC radio, Nike, The National Park Service, OCAC, and Music Together of Portland. He has recently begun designing sound for short film and animation. Jake has a B.S. degree in Audio Engineering from Husson University, where he graduated with high honors. He was the recipient of the Spotlight Award at the 2016 Drammys, and a multiple time PAMTA nominee.

ROGER MONROE STAGE MANAGER Roger has served as NWCT’s resident stage manager for 21 seasons, including the last production of Mary Poppins, and five productions of Peter Pan. In addition to co-directing NWCT’s Interns NW, Roger designs sets, lights, and properties for Main and Second Stage productions and Playlabs. Previously his design work was seen in Robin Hood (2016), Sherlock Holmes, El Zorrito, Busytown, Rapunzel Uncut, The Hobbit (2009), The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Seussical, and The Magic Mrs. Piggle Wiggle (2002) for which he received a Drammy in Scene Design. Roger holds a B.S. in Theater Arts from Portland State University.
