PAUL, WALTER AND BARNEY.
Portland has become one of the major tango centers in the U.S, and over White Bird’s 21 years, we have continually been on the look-out for a tango performance that strikes a perfect balance between dance and music, and feels truly authentic. We believe that Tangueros del Sur with their newest program Romper el Piso does exactly that. Led by the famed tango dancer Natalia Hills, the company of 17 gifted dancers and musicians will take you on a fascinating journey through history of tango, from its AfroArgentine roots to the seductive, emotional and highly complex dance and music form that we know today.
Also tonight marks the continuation of our celebration of powerful women in dance. After presenting Pilobolus (with Co-Director Renée Jaworski) and Lucy Guerin from Australia, we are proud to bring the world-renowned Natalia Hills, who has conceived and choreographed tonight’s exciting tango program. For anyone familiar with the vibrant tango scene in Portland, Alex Krebs is unquestionably a major figure and has distinguished himself as one of tango’s most passionate advocates. We want to extend great thanks to him and his dance partner Hannah Grenfell for performing with us in the Schnitzer lobby before tonight’s show. We also want to thank Alex and his studio Tango Berretin for so generously hosting the Tangueros company while in town for rehearsals and a tango workshop. The holidays are almost here, and so are our popular White Bird Holiday Packs. This year we have two versions, Winter and Spring, with a variety of price levels, and we hope that you think of White Bird and offer your friends, family and colleagues the wonderful gift of dance. Please visit www.whitebird.org to order now! We wish you a joyous holiday season.
