INTRODUCTION
It is nearly 100 years since the first exhibition of Rembrandt Bugatti’s sculpture opened in New York. Since that time, despite the constant ebb and flow of the art market, his reputation has continued to rise and today his work is not only highly prized by collectors but is also found in the world’s major museums. In recent years there have been other exhibitions of Bugatti’s sculpture in New York, and indeed his work featured in a major exhibition on the Bugatti family at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio as recently as 1999. With this forthcoming exhibition in New York and soon to be published monograph, we hope to continue to bring Bugatti’s sculpture to a wider audience. Finally, it has been a great pleasure working with Cameron Shay and his team at James Graham & Sons in the preparation and build up to this show, and their fine galleries on Madison Avenue will provide a most appropriate setting for this exhibition.

Above Bugatti’s important exhibition at the Goupil Gallery, New York, 1915, organized through A. A. Hébrard. The sculptor’s American market was already sufficiently established to warrant, for example, the shipping of the impressive bronze Ten Minutes Rest.
