CONSUELO CHILD-VILLIERS
by Viviana Puello
“A World of Surreal Beauty and Profound Emotion”
Consuelo Child-Villiers is an artist whose work transcends conventional boundaries, weaving together vibrant colors, ethereal forms, and profound symbolism. Her paintings invite viewers into a world where the line between reality and imagination is beautifully blurred. With a career spanning several decades, Consuelo has developed a unique style that blends classical influences with contemporary sensibilities.
Her art often features dreamlike figures and mythological creatures, each piece telling a story that resonates on a profoundly emotional level. Consuelo’s use of color is particularly striking, with bold, contrasting hues that evoke a sense of wonder and introspection. Her compositions are carefully constructed, showcasing her attention to detail and her exploration of the human experience.
Throughout her career, Consuelo has exhibited her work internationally, earning acclaim for her ability to capture the essence of her subjects with sensitivity and grace. Her pieces are not just visually stunning; they also provoke thought and inspire dialogue about the complexities of life, love, and the human spirit.
Consuelo Child-Villiers’ artistic journey is a testament to her dedication and creativity. Her paintings serve as a bridge between the past and the present, offering a fresh perspective on timeless themes. As you explore her work, you’ll find yourself drawn into her world, where each brushstroke reflects her artistic soul and unwavering commitment to her craft.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE?
"Easier for me to quote a review. I am hopeless at describing my own style..!: " Consuelo is a long-established artist who freely falls into a world of her own, no net, independent. Figures, creatures, objects, and their secrets dwell in her vision, which is both playful and serious. Consuelo's medium of expression is color, color as a material fact, communication, and soulsong in paint.” Guislaine de Damas
WHAT IS YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?
"My Studio spans the top door of my London house. I create mostly oil on canvas, starting an idea in charcoal and graduating to oil, with many 'Pentimenti' along the way. These are extremely useful in that they donate immeasurably
“Yellow
to the final result. I also create Collages on Gesso boards and occasionally ceramics. An integral part of my creative process is listening to audiobooks as I work, from classical to contemporary, as long as they are beautifully read. This transports me from 'overthinking' as I paint...since ideas are usually 80% intact before starting to paint."
HOW AND WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER YOU WANTED TO BE AN ARTIST?
"All my life I have wanted to be an Artist ...ever since I was
a child...I have never really known any other way to express my feelings or emotions. I had a dream in early Adult life in which Picasso appeared and offered me a large box of colors. From that moment, the momentum shifted, and I knew that whatever the highs and lows that life as an Artist inevitably might present, I was committed."
WHAT MESSAGE DOES YOUR WORK TRANSMIT TO YOUR AUDIENCE?
"Whatever the audience chooses to see is the message...I
wouldn't presume to dictate a message, but I am equally very encouraged and fulfilled if my work appeals or inspires my audience; this makes the whole process worthwhile."
HAS ANY PART OF YOUR STORY INFLUENCED WHAT YOU DO NOW?
"Life and all that I have experienced from childhood to today in the way of travel, literature, dreams, visual Arts and life experiences, both positive and otherwise, influence what I create in my Art."
