"Having grown up in a family of creators, art has always been the window through which I interpret and understand the world. I try to put on canvas the depths and endlessness of the mind. My formal education collaborates with my interest in spirituality to influence the stylization and color selection prominent in my work. It is my main desire to provide maximum aesthetic pleasure to my audience and to touch the soul with human emotions familiar to all." - Tinatin Vachnadze 8

orn in Tbilisi, Giorgia in a family of artists, Tinatin Vachnadze was exposed to art at an early age and the bohemian environment that came along with it. Her vibrantly abstract paintings are highly textured, characterized by a great fluidity and simultaneous contrasts, paying close attention to form and color, utilizing curved

shapes that frequently resemble dashes of color or even biomorphic shapes. This is exceptionally important in the creation of movement within the composition, as when combined with the chromatic intensity, the final result is exceptionally dynamic.

These elements are predominantly evident in her abstract works, such as “Restlessness,” which depicts vibrant blue and red vortexes accompanied by dashes and splashes of color. It is a composition with complexity in nature, but at the same time, it exhibits a methodic structure, retaining a harmonic, rhythmic pattern. Similarly, “Feelings” is a dual piece which focuses on an eruption of blue and purple biomorphic shapes that resemble clouds or fungal growth. This can be seen as a hint that her abstract works have an indirect reference to our environment, drawing inspiration from nature to create a contemporary result.

Vachnadze's work and overall style have gone through a few crucial transitions. Since she had a classical education in figurative art, the majority of her early works were realistic. Along the way, she

decided to begin her exploration of abstract works. She described the transition as very difficult, admitting it was necessary, as in time she found her voice in the abstract style.

Siegfried Lehmann An Interview With

by Yadira Roman

"Sunday Parade" Acrylic On Wood, 70.9"x39.4

Master artist Siegfried Lehmann is ever evolving in the stages of his work, taking advantage of the many resources that surround him in his creative process. Using abstract interpretation when painting with oils and acrylics, graphics and 3d installments to communicate his message with his audience. Lehmann has a curious spirit with his work, expressing his thoughts about consciousness as well as his likeness for technology and recent advances. His environment is his tool for expansion in his work, always reinventing himself and moving forward as quickly as the world around him.

empowering tool of connection and community in the world. Lehmann talks about the duality in our environment, both light and dark forces being an influence on the way we experience life. He likes to focus on the positive aspects of the world, while also embracing elements he considers to be dark. This duality is portrayed in his work concerning color contrast as well as shape contrast. With a harmonious final result in each of his works, showing his ability to structure, while also living in the free flow of his youthful curiosity, always remaining connected to his inner child.

Lehmann uses plastic and wood for his installments, and he creates vibrant and harmonizing colors, as well as a form of communication through shapes and braking patterns. There is a sense of continuity in all his works, each of his creations carries a symphony of colors, shapes, and subjects representing the circle of life within humanity as well as the spiritual realms beyond. Lehmann creates unity through his work, using his gift as an 14

SUMMER 2018

Siegfried Lehmann enlightens us a s h e o p e n s a w i n d ow o f communication between his work and our community. Using social developments as a root of inspiration, we dive into the inspiration himself. Why do you do what you do? “Since my childhood, I feel that I and my art are inseparable from each other. At the age of five, the adults around me noticed my specific skills to model and to draw. This deep inner connection

to art and creativity has accompanied me my whole life and marked me. It was and is a way for me to get to know myself better and to express my philosophy of life. My works are always very colorful, show the unusual and individual, and at the same time, they have to do with the game of life. For me, this also means thinking positively and seeing the beautiful and good things in life. To be artistically active means to me to play with colors and color harmonies, to keep on developing my imagination, to integrate innovative ideas, in mere words: to live up my creative potency. “ What has inspired your work this past year? “The past year I was inspired by modern technology. Computers, pixels, keyboards, the many knobs, and buttons that you have everywhere arranged for me to put all this into a visual language. Especially the knobs and buttons have inspired me to work in three dimensions and to insert elements of various materials into my paintings. This has made my works change

from a somewhat symbolic representation towards the abstract and graphics up to a three-dimensional image. In these new paintings, I have expressed my emotions through the interaction of shapes and colors. Here are on the one side the intense bright colors in a rhythmic and graphic arrangement and on the other hand the three-dimensional elements that repeatedly break through this rhythm. This is how a combination of shapes and colors comes into play, includes the viewer and leads to interaction and communication.” How has your environment been of influence to your message as an artist? “I as creative person inspires everything, what is happening around me. That can be the trivial things you can perceive in passing, just as the nature of the people who surround you. As well I deal with the significant global issues such as nature conservation, globalization, and digitization. All this flows into the work. At the same time, I always try to show the positive aspects and to

convey, that everything has two sides and that there is still an alternative way that ultimately leads to the positive and successful. Thus, artistic work is a constant and continual engagement with the environment that inspires creativity, and so creates new things out of itself.”

that has begun, and I am looking for new opportunities all the time.

Your works have a powerful message, what words of wisdom would you give to artists questioning whether or not to do the same?

My next upcoming exhibitions are: Amsterdam Whitney Gallery, New York, August 28th till September 26th, 2018 and Colorida Galeria de Arte, Lisbon, Portugal, October 30th till November 16th, 2018.

“To express his thoughts, his emotions and opinions artistically is always something very personal. Everybody must decide it for himself, whether he wants to go this way or not. In my view, it is essential to develop your creativity and to become aware of it first, before you make your decision. You must feel your way of being creative. As a creative person, you interpret nature in your way. To develop this individual way is a process, that you must go through and that you must become aware of. This development process takes time, and it is essential to take this time. If you decide in favor of it, it is important to believe in yourself and not to give up, until you have reached your goal. I adopt the motto: "Criticism only makes me stronger." That gives me power in demanding situations.” Whats next for your career? “Of course, it is about to continue the creative process, to be inspired, to develop innovative ideas and to incorporate them into the work and thus create new, unprecedented works. On the other hand, I want to introduce my artworks to a broad audience and to make them known, to make contact between the artist and the art lover. I want to continue on the path 16

A new artistic work is a young living being that ripens step by step and develops its own best character. Some are wild, unruly and bubbling over with energy, loving pop, and rock music and spraying their tremendous joy of life; others are very organized and structured, love classics and have within their clearness and order nearly a meditative character. However, there also are kinds of living beings who strive for much individuality, who hate to be in uniform and who want to express their own best nature with much intensity. All this is reflected on the surface of the artwork. While coming into being ripeness the development of the artwork goes on. The artwork keeps communicating with his creator, absorbing characteristics, thoughts, and emotions and continues to show him new sides and facets of itself. Step by step it is growing up to a matured and

independent personality. Now it is ready to leave his creator and to look for new contacts. At this moment the art lover enters the game. He becomes an observing partner, who creates a new relationship and communicates in his unique way with the artwork. In this way, a new continuous process of change and movement starts. The observer gets more and more involved in the artistic work, maybe he discovers hidden parts of himself and feels more and more his presence and reality throughout the work. He starts to notice that he participates in the process of perception of movements and colors." For more info contact:

merican master artist Barbara Tyler Ahlfield moved from a flourishing career as a fashion illustrator to a thriving artist and oil painter. Her work is a blend of modern, yet traditional fashion inspired realistic oil paintings. A resident of Baltimore, Maryland, most of Ahlfield’s work has been influenced by the historic nature of her home district which has a rich history, and the environment and antiques reflect a more sophisticated era. This has inspired her work as she continually strives for elegance through classical foundations in her figurative pieces.

"Forsythia And Tulle" Oil On Canvas, 60"x48"

"Jewel" Oil On Canvas, 60"x36"

Ahlfield loves to create emotional portraits that are elegant and technically accurate. After conceiving the initial idea for a composition, she gathers her resources which include the prop and model, graphite pencil, Indian ink line, watercolor, colored pencils, gouache, and oils. She uses highly saturated tones of pigment in the delicate textured areas, and she captures her subjects at their best through harmonious compositions which emanate intimacy and strength. Cont. Ahlfield likes to capture fleeting and exciting moments. With a strong foundation as a fashion illustrator, most of her scenes revolve around the world of fashion, glamour, and beauty. Her love for fashion, fabric, and style has influenced the artist to produce some of the impactful work that captures the various textures of fabric including silk, velvet, lace and several others. Unlike other contemporary artists, she uses patterns instead of precise backgrounds. Ahlfield's style is extraordinary, painting thinly and sparingly while applying glazes. She finds power in accuracy by using appropriate colors to soften the edges, depicting her subjects in full beauty and splendor, all in the elegant fashion that is the signature essence of Ahlfield’s work. by Dean Kab

elen Kagan, PhD. is a holistic therapist and artist. She believes that art heals and the world is now in dire need of the positive and empowering energy that can be conveyed through artistic expression. Her style and technique are based on the concept of "Healing Arts" which brings together the Art of Healing and Fine Art by using high-frequency colors charged with positive intentions and embedded spiritual messages so that the viewer gets an energetically balanced piece that is said to enhance well-being. Kagan grew up in communist Siberia where oppression and overt control were aspects of her daily life until she left which is why she is such a firm believer of artistic expression, with the yearning for freedom felt in every one of her works. She paints primarily with oils and acrylics and explores mixed media to produce "Healing Art" which is much better viewed in-person due to the use of heavy textures, bright colors and stunning vibrations on the large canvas.

oronto based, Israeli born artist Adi Zur creates multi-media compositions incorporating elements that reflect the overwhelming media saturation and competing information to which we are exposed to in modern times. Her abstract expressionist works are skillfully and ingeniously created using a combination of oil paints, magazines, newspaper headlines and photographs she takes in her day to day life. Adi Zur

has a profound passion for ancient fundamental knowledge that is lost to the contemporary world. Her inspiration was ignited since young age growing up near archeological sites where she would go play with her childhood friends.

"I am intensely moved by a notion of a 'connector'- an umbilical cord, if you will - which joins us to knowledge, harnessed in the distant past, but driving us into an uncertain future. My recent interest in the fragmented forms of futurism brings this sensibility to the present day. The contemporary world is similarly disjointed as we are bombarded each day by information from competing media." - Adi Zur world. Using her art, she aims to form a connection between long-lost wisdom and expound it to create a gateway to the future; taking the viewers from a chaotic world disillusioned by the media to a gentle stream of consciousness sourced from the past and flowing to the future. The playful scattering of key elements in her works emphasizes the dream state she wishes to immerse her audience in. The dominantly monochromatic painting "The Power" is a striking piece that incorporates similar media to "Dreams of Harmony" but with a different approach. In "The Power," she seamlessly uses gradient blending to transition from white to mellow blue. She also forms geometric Cont. Next Page

"The Artist's Studio On A Red Day" Oil On Canvas, 16"x20", 2016 by Viviana Puello

“Visual communication is essential to me in the way Braille is to the blind. Nothing speaks more decisively of my joys as well as my troubles than painting and other visual art media. Nothing encapsulates my 59 years of connection with nature than painting landscape and nothing has helped me more with my struggles with society and social awkwardness than figurative depiction.

The haunting expressionist paintings of Alison Barrows-Young capture the emotional responses of her subconscious mind to life events and experiences. Working predominantly in oil on canvas, the artist blends bold lines with thick layers of color to compose highly detailed renderings executed with textured brushstrokes and strong compositional skills. I prefer to use an expressionist approach as I find it relays my feelings and musings most clearly to myself and to others.”

Barrows-Young's landscape work draws inspiration from the natural world and the myriad colors, tones, and light offered by constant atmospheric changes. She is inspired by living in the isolated northern woods of the Pacific Northwest and aims to share her concern about environmental conservation

Focusing on landscape and figurative subject matter, BarrowsYoung presents a profound and realistic look into humanity, making visible our society’s internal demons. In her figurative work, BarrowsYoung plays with form, color, and anatomy to illustrate underlying aspects of the human condition, creating a strong connection between social activism and her artistic practice. Through her work, s h e ex p r e s s e s t h o u g h t s a n d feelings that challenge viewers to question what they are seeing, while opening a conversation that can lead to conscious awareness. Over the last few years and especially since we have a political administration that wishes to undo the advances we have made on global warming my landscapes have begun to represent a disquieting element, focusing on the dramatic weather conditions at play with the environment. I wish to connect the viewer with an immediate, sensual lure, to absorb them into a visual conversation about our environmental concerns.”

Apart from her disposition for painting natural elements, Yu He also creates still life paintings and abstract expressions with equal success. Her preferred medium is acrylic on canvas and paper, although she occasionally uses water color, tempera and pastels. The contemporary artist explores the extremities of nature in a variety of colors that are reflective of her emotions. She exhibits the wet on wet style of painting to recreate the natural environment in most of her works, using this as a tool to represent the life in each subject. rgentinean born artist Andrea De Luigi derives her inspiration from nature and day to day events. Using acrylics and mixed media on canvas or wood, a notable feature of De Luigi's works is her emphasis on light as it streams from different points on the canvas. The light works

to influence the scenery and mood of the painting, ultimately altering or enhancing the emotional atmosphere. Her works scream raw, unfettered energy, as her elements yearn to break through the bounds of the canvas and storm into the physical world. Cont. Next Page

“I create colorful paintings of microscopic and macroscopic nature hidden from the naked eye; the layered interconnectivity that could represent origins of life in a drop of water or systems in the vast cosmos.” - Betsy Stewart "Bioverse No.4" Acrylic & Sumi Ink On Canvas, 84"x48"

In many of her series, Stewart examines the unique microscopic ecosystem of shallow pond water which by extension is a reflection of the uncertainty and fickle nature of human life. The "Natos" series of paintings, particularly "Natos 5" is a show of her keen interest in expounding on the magic of nature and biodiversity in water ponds. As with many pieces in the series, the predominant color is yellow-green and its hues with jiggling circles to represent bubbles and scribbles and small markings or shapes that represent the microscopic life forms that permeate the water ponds. These pieces tell stories of an environment teeming with life and different forms coexisting in perfect harmony to create an almost magical ecosystem. Her recent “Biocriticals"

by Yadira Roman

urkish born contemporary artist Gülcan Karadağ has an affinity for lush, vivid colors and geometric spirals. She explores various themes in her work, mainly tradition and culture of the lost Mu civilizations. Her compositions are a buzz of color that seamlessly transition in hues in various blends. Lighting and adequate shading give an enhanced effect of realism and dimension to the pieces. A technique she has proficiently mastered is gradient blending which she can accomplish in various strokes both subtle and bold. Embedded in her art is a deeply-rooted desire to wonder and intrigue while sharing her most creative ingenuity and intimate emotions. Her pieces are a showcase of personal experiences, tradition, and imagination. “Dervish” not only highlights the Dervish culture but also gives us a glimpse into Karadağ’s surrealism and creative genius. The composition immerses the viewer in a blissful trancelike state 78

while simultaneously expounding on an age old culture and tradition. Diverting from Sufi tradition, “Touch” takes a more intimate approach to the subject matter. The piece is a union of soul and color in a splendid display that strikes the heart most unexpectedly. We were able to connect with Karadağ and ask about her current journey as an artist. What had you chosen the current works you're sharing with us in this publication? “My themes are the reflections of my inner journey on canvas. My inner journey is basically to question. I am the observer of humans who questioned conscious of existence and drew conclusions; I then reach my own conclusions and reflect them on canvas. I feel that every little particle and every movement in the universe deserve to be accepted by love. The whirling dervish embraces the universe as a whole and is able to meet with his/her own spirit. I wanted people who would be looking at my works to feel the intensity and depth of this inner journey toward discovering own self.” www.arttourinternational.com

What words of inspiration do you want to give artists looking to make a change through their work? “I do not think that the artist aims to make a change. The artist is a dissident and does not have a mission of making a change. However, their approach may set examples for the society. All artists should continue to produce in full freedom. The world would have been a better place if everyone had been able to integrate their perspective with the artist's perspective.

odie Blaney draws inspiration from Iconic Canadian artists whose works form the meshwork of her beautiful compositions. Though her paintings are rooted in reality, Blaney adopts a frivolous interpretation that breaches the bounds of what is initially seen. Her works scream raw unchained energy, perfect harmony and balance. They are a cohesive blur of realism and abstraction, binding geometrical shapes and patterns with natural forms to collectively create her piece. Blaney has an innate knack for color and style to emphasize her interpretation of the natural energies that pervade our space. Her works are intriguing and aweinspiring. Trees and native surroundings may take up undulating shapes in her works. “Waiting for Spring” is a perfect example of her proficiency and prowess in her artistic capacity. imberly Berg is an American artist who creates mesmerizing paintings taking the female figure as his subject-matter. His works focus on the feminine essence of the human being, and he refers to himself as a “male, feminist artist who wishes to voice both beauty of the female figure as well as the mysticism connected with the feminine embodiment. Berg’s works are predominantly figurative concerning depiction, incorporating realistic drawing which acts as the backbone of the composition presented to the viewer. He also frequently avoids an overburdened background, a feature which aims to elevate the figure depicted as the sole protagonist of the composition and avoid excess information. The chromatic palette utilized focuses on darker, crisp tones that enhance the mystical atmosphere which is one of the main elements in his work. Berg uses color to connect his audience to the natural elements in relation to his subjects, "Ova Moon" is a welcoming representation as he uses green hues to elevate a sense of abundance and nurture as the essence of the moon is one of many symbolic figures of the feminine self. teve Lyons is honored for his international recognition as one of the top abstract expressionist painters in the world. After a life of painting, he was “discovered” in 2011 selling his seascape paintings on scrap lumber off his front porch. Called “Memento Paintings,” these small studies served to help him re-invent the ancient Italian “impasto” technique into what cultural writers call “sculpted paintings.” Today he employs this technique of heightened dimensionality on canvas to create a bridge between abstraction and representation. His work is a culmination of freedom and curiosity as he explores a wide array of themes illuminating the canvas with emotion as he tackles themes that are relative to nature, human emotion and society at large. Lyons incorporates natural elements in his paintings, coupling colors that are reflective of the mood or “story” he wishes to convey. His versatility in creating a range of image and styles astounds art lovers and collectors alike as it often incorporates acrylic, oil, watercolor and gold, silver and copper leaf. “Each painting has its own story to tell and thus, I employ whatever media necessary to allow the creation to speak.” 112

His canvases can be highly emotional, which originates from core values. “I try to live my life – and use my career to help others, emotionally or financially, from family to friends to strangers. Because of that, I often use my art to convey and trigger emotional connections, especially those related to politics, such as the refugee crisis.” Politics related to human suffering ignites his passion.

“I honestly do not understand how the world sits by and watches the travesties against refugees unfold,” he states. “Each nation has originated a reason for limiting assistance to innocent men, women and children desperate to flee the very oppressions. The atrocities seem limitless, and it is heartbreaking. And to think we are now tearing families apart at borders is unconscionable.” Cont. Next Page

"Lone Breaker #2" Acrylic On Canvas, 24"x72"

His painting, “Fleeing Damascus”, deals with the refugee crisis, telling of the chaos and discord as various colors come together to delineate two human adults holding infants in their arms as they flee their oppressive situation. Their expression is fear and as tense as the title suggests, and even in photos stirs curiosity and discussion among viewers In a class of its own, “Under Your Spell” is an excellent showcasing of Lyons’ expertise. He predominantly uses blue hues in a dripping technique with circular elements, including mirrors, which invites the viewer to become “part of the art.” The piece delves the viewer into a mystical trance that brings out previously unexplored feelings. The atmosphere evoked is calm, placid and pleasant, almost akin to viewing a vast expanse of the sea

under the light of the full moon triggering intellectual and introspective thought. Lyons is a multiple award winning artist who has braved many obstacles to become the master creator that he is today. His works are a rare treasure for art critics and collectors worldwide. In 2018, his work will be seen throughout Europe at exhibitions in Sitges, Spain, Moscow and Madrid. In October, Lyons’ work will be presented by Princess Elletra Marconi of Italy at her Palace Bologna, then at the Palace Borghese in Rome. For more info visit:

ali is a beautiful island paradise of rolling rice paddies, tropical rainforest, and colossal volcanoes. The Island of the Gods offers great beaches, fantastic natural sites, and colorful ceremonies. However, Bali is much more than that; there is a unique essence, something authentic, that has inspired visitors from all over the world for decades. Capturing the essence of Bali with stunning images, Canadian fine art photographer Hélène DeSerres explores the way of life and cultural aspects of the island. These photographs are a depiction of the day-to-day activities of the local people and their cultural heritage, devoid of any pretense or embellishment. Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Hélène DeSerres is recognized globally as a painter, photographer, and sculptor. She has captured some of the most distinctive subjects from around the world, regularly flying to remarkable sites to photograph them.

DeSerres has devoted much of her work to advocate for the environment and the protection of endangered species. Natural landscapes, majestic creatures, and bold pigments are prominent features of her work as a p a i n t e r , a n d t h e m e s r e l at e d to e nv i ro n m e nt a l co n s e r vat i o n h a s inspired many of her series. Her photographic work focuses on cultural preservation and offers her audience insights into the treasured and profoundly honored ways of life that can be found in cultures all around the world. There is a notable presence of age transition and gender balance in each photograph, with a particular concentration on the facial expressions of her subjects to highlight emotion and presence. In these stunning images, DeSerres has captured the spirit, beauty, and variety offered by Balinese dancers. Balinese dance represents an ancient, dynamic, angular, and intensely expressive tradition. Dancers express the stories of dance-drama through bodily gestures, including gestures of fingers, hands, head, and eyes. There is a great richness of dance forms and styles in Bali, most of them connected to Hindu rituals.

merican environmentalist and artist Judith Gale uses mixed media to bring forth chromatic abstract compositions of symbols representing her mission to protect marine life. They come together on canvas to create an exotic and lively experience similar to what you would feel while looking at sea shells which is where she gets most of her inspiration from. Gale's love for mollusks came as a result of spending a lot of time on her father's mollusk collection. She models her work on how mother nature can create unique and intricate patterns on

some of the most overlooked yet beautiful creatures. A lot of her work is designed to stimulate young minds interested in the ocean conservation which is why she incorporates a lot of maritime subjects into her work. She starts with the general patterns of the shells using light colors then makes the micro patterns larger and more prominent to 'bring out the richness of nature which needs protecting.' The oceans are suffering due to acidification which is killing many delicate mollusks in the ocean, and Gale uses her art as a unique way to raise

awareness. When asked about her new piece 'Cymbiola Nobilis,' she talks about how she was inspired by a small sea snail of the same name, and how she loved the way its free flowing lines traveled all across the shell which it hides in. She knew exactly how she would render its patterns onto canvas the moment she saw it. Gale exhibits a joyful sense of raw compassion towards our planet, and she hones into her calling in honoring it through her art.

“My work, both in Art and Architecture, is an ongoing exploration of the concept of Layers. I have always been aware of and fascinated by Layers in the Natural and Built Environment. awrence Armstrong is an award-winning American contemporary artist who uses his knowledge and creativity in architecture to create masterful works. He gets inspiration from flashes of light that appear to him spontaneously which are triggered by sensory influences. The unannounced inspirations are derived from the natural environment, a r c h i t e c t d raw i n g s , pieces of music and his numerous travel experiences all over the world. He presents his work in small series and the pieces frequently come out in rapid succession after the first flash. Armstrong's paintings and sculptures represent the ongoing tension that exists between opposing forces. The

opposing forces may be along the themes of emotion, intellect, and paradigms such as chaos and order, solid and void, simplicity and complexity, shapes among many others; all of which are fascinated by the natural and built environment and the forces in space and time. The layered vision work is ongoing scrutiny of the concept of layers. Armstrong explores the depth of layers by connecting visual essentials through color, form, shapes, and texture. He uses unique d et a i l s to g ra b t h e attention of viewers by highlighting elements that were buried in the background. In 'Gestalt' and 'Stalk,' Armstrong explores the concept of layers between two opposing shapes. In both of these works, the two opposite forms "Gestalt 3.0" Layered Metal, 47"x50"x6"

election and its aftermath of negative rhetoric and dangerous policies prompted her to vent and otherwise communicate her fears and hopes through her art. Medina's first series "We the People/El Pueblo Unido for Peace, Justice and Mother Earth" was exhibited at the Luisa Capetillo Gallery of MNN El Barrio Fire House in New York this past April. Zenaida Mendez, Director of MNN El Barrio Firehouse Community Media Center, directed the opening ceremony of the exhibition. The opening night and presentation of the artist were broadcast for the TV show "Art Settlers." The artist was presented via an interview conducted by Viviana Puello, ATIM Editor-in-Chief and guest host for the show. This was a moment of honor for Medina, who has dedicated a significant portion of her life to her mission as an activist writing about important issues. Medina's work included strong images and words countering racism, degradation of our planet, genocide against Native Americans, and our country’s continued obsession with war and militarism. This exhibit was Medina's first leap into her nowactive role in the contemporary art industry and was an example of how Medina combines her passions to raise social awareness of various issues. Triggered by the previous presidential election, Medina used art as a tool as well as an expression of her desire to find peace and hope.
