We are now taking a step in a new direction and will make sure to become a brand that will be highlighted in the Swedish and international market. With a new strategy, at Åry we are making a clearer investment in media in order to strengthen our brand. By generating more awareness of Åry, we will become a natural choice for the consumer.

Åry has a long history. We are celebrating our 70th anniversary this year and we are doing it with genuine Småland craftsmanship. Produced in the forests of Småland, with the best choice of materials, selected to guarantee the highest quality. Our products are made by hand and we are extremely proud of that.

Åry is one of the leading manufacturers of trays in the Nordic region. We have a stable position in the market thanks to our high quality. We want to be the customer’s first choice, with our focus on design and quality. We also have a choice of materials that is contemporary from a sustainability perspective. 95% of our trays use FSCcertified wood as a raw material.

Our focus from now on will be on product development and marketing. We will strengthen our positions in the market, tray by tray. We are focusing on six accelerators – products, branding, prices, purchasing, manufacturing efficiency and development of our personnel.

We we are working to maintain a broad, vibrant range in our own collections. We are collaborating with several internationally-renowned artists and designers who have shown the utmost dedication in designing our iconic collections for the home. We have also established a new collaboration with the designer Sara Woodrow. She creates highly contemporary motifs.

We are ready for the future and, with our owner Midaq, we will have an excellent basis. We are investing in new machines in our factory and from now on we will be investing more in digital solutions that provide new opportunities.

All in all, you could say that we are making solid investments in both product development and marketing and we look forward to being able to serve you a lot of new trays as well as several other interesting products in the category of interior design.

Trays have been our thing for 70 years

Åry began in the Småland town of Åryd, which is located just outside Växjö. Åry’s name comes from the place where the foundations were laid. The founders were from a military background and began the business by manufacturing wooden anti-personnel mines for the government. These were made in veneers. 70 years later, we are still manufacturing veneered, moulded products, but mines are a long-distant memory.

The factory was moved to Nybro in 1955 and another local factory that manufactured trays was bought there. This is where the story of us and trays, which has been our thing since then, begins. In the late 1950s, we manufactured a tray table of veneered teak and metal. That tray table became a big part of our success. We are still making tray tables today, but in a more modern style in which the tray has a more pronounced design. We use the same manufacturing method as we did 70 years ago and the tray table is a popular interior design item – a smart combination of design and function.

Sustainability comes naturally to us

The raw material in our trays is birch veneer. It is organic, beautiful and easy to use and, above all, easy to shape. A beautiful, natural material that has the right properties for our trays.

It is important to us to protect the environment and manage nature’s resources with care. We are FSC®-certified and that guarantees responsible forestry. A global standard that governs management of harvesting, protection of animals and plant life as well as working conditions. Strict requirements that must be metin each area so that the forest is used sustainably for future generations.

A tray is produced every day

The method for making the trays is simply layer on layer. With veneers, glue, heat and a moulding press, new trays see the light of day in our factories. Real craftsmanship from start to finish.

Monika has worked with us for many years and is one of the people who pick all the layers in the right order for our trays. “It’s important to have your head screwed on when you go to pick all the sheets. A lot of thought goes into the order in which the sheets are placed,” says Monika. The tray won’t stick together if you do it wrong. A lot of motifs have been produced over the 70 years and several of them have become bestsellers.

“The Morris motifs are one of the favourites. They are classics

in terms of both colour and design. They appeal to both the younger and the olderage groups. The variety of motifs and seasons means that the job never gets boring,” Monika continues. “When we start with the Christmas collections in August, we’re looking forward to Christmas. When Christmas arrives, we’re making the spring trays. You’re always somewhere else in your mind,” laughs Monika.

At the moment we have about 100 different shapes and, besides the trays, we also make place mats, chopping boards, trivets and coasters. The plans for the future may perhaps contain some new shapes and collections and we’re looking forward to that. Right now, we’re working flat out on the new items for spring. The next bestseller might be right on the doorstep,” says Monika with a twinkle in her eye.

Sara Woodrow, an inspiring artist and designer who illustrates motifs that are accessible and easy to feel comfortable with. The motifs are trendy and extremely popular among younger design enthusiasts.

Sara is a contemporary designer who listens to her heart and dares to go her own way. She is driven by change and new ideas and has the curiosity and desire to constantly improve.

Her artistic career began with a blog of thoughts on things she wanted to improve, as well as a space for inspiration, tips and ideas. The blog became a space for cultivating creativity. As well as a space for inspiring others and challenging herself. A space for staying up to date in the digital world and making contacts as well as presenting her work to a wider audience. The blog got results and Sara has been an established designer and illustrator for many years.

Sara has several exciting projects on her CV. Two years ago, she was asked to participate in a secret assignment for Dior. The assignment was to illustrate some of the guests at their fashion show in Marrakesh. They wanted handmade portraits in Indian ink on coldpressed watercolour paper. That assignment was unlike any previous assignment and was a mark of recognition by the international market.

From Dior to several other well-known brands, Sara’s designs have appeared in many different contexts, on glass at Kosta Boda and as paintings in acrylics or print.

She is working with us at Åry to launch a unique collection for spring. We can’t wait to present our collaboration!
