ONE FOR THE LADIES Segers gives female chefs a greater choice when it comes to looking stylish while working. From our most luxurious chef’s jackets to our basic models. Today we have a total of 63 women’s styles in our range, and we want it to be more. Historically, it has been harder for women to find garments that fit perfectly, and women have been accustomed to working in shapeless menswear. We want to change this at Segers, and always think about both men and women when we develop new products. As for the design of our women’s wear, each model has its own style and it is only the fit that separates the men’s and women’s models. Men and women should still reflect each other as much as possible, to create a unified feeling. The difference between women and men is mainly the width of the hips, waist and bust to achieve the best possible fit.

FOR A SAFER WORK LIFE The views on human rights and healthy working conditions are very different in factories across the globe. Here at Segers, we take responsibility to ensure you can wear our work clothes with a clear conscience.

OWN STAFF 90% of Segers’ range is made by our own staff. We were an early adopter of taking responsibility for good working conditions for all our employees. For many years, our code of conduct has been a natural part in the work to ensure healthy working conditions in our factories and at our suppliers. We have owned our own production units in Ukraine and Estonia for many years, which gives us total control. As a customer, you always have the opportunity to visit our factories to see how we work in terms of the environment and social responsibility. Employees of Segers have the right to work in light and hygienic premises with good heating and ventilation. They have the right to their entire wage even if the order books aren’t full. Normal 40-hour working weeks are standard and everyone receives remuneration for overtime, 25 days’ paid holiday, plus pension and insurance contributions. Segers also sponsors the local music school at our production facility in the Ukraine. Since 2018, Segers has been linked with Amfori-BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative), one of the world’s largest sustainability initiatives to create more responsible supply chains. Amfori BSCI is run by the Foreign Trade Association (FTA) in Brussels. Amfori-BSCI has around 2,000 member companies that each apply the same code of conduct to improve working environment conditions around the world.

FOR A CLEANER WORLD Modern and durable work clothes are a must in the restaurant and healthcare trade. But textile production is a strain on people and the environment. In order to take greater responsibility and lead the development towards more environmentally-friendly production, Segers is actively working on environmental issues.

SEGERS MAKES IT EASIER FOR SUPPLIERS Here at Segers, we take utmost responsibility to follow the EU’s chemicals legislation (REACH). The EU’s list of hazardous chemicals, SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern), is constantly changing and is difficult for the individual supplier to work with. Together with an external consultant, Segers has therefore developed a tool to help the supplier focus on the hazardous chemicals that are relevant to the products they manufacture for us. We are in the process of creating a system to communicate and ensure that our suppliers have routines to test the products they provide to us. Segers also takes random samples to check that no forbidden and regulated substances remain in the products. As a member of the chemical group at Rice IVF (formerly Swerea IVF), Segers receives continuous updates on how legislation changes, plus support from their chemists. We are also participating in research projects to replace products that are dangerous to the environment and for human health. Segers is also looking at alternative solutions for a more sustainable world. For example, cotton growing needs huge amounts of water and is an unsustainable strain on the environment. Here we are looking in to how Tencel® (lyocell) for example, can work as a more environmentally-friendly alternative.

One of the world’s largest sustainability initiatives to create a more responsible supply chain. Amfori BSCI is run by the Foreign Trade Association (FTA) in Brussels. At the request of the BSCI, our production is checked by an independent institute.

The international standard for environmental work, pollution and environmental requirements. As early as 1998, Segers began work to introduce an environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001. ISO certification was completed in May 2000.

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 An international measurement of reliability throughout the entire textile chain. The requirements list contains over 100 parameters and should ensure that the textiles that pass the testing and are certified do not contain substances hazardous to health. 80 per cent of Segers’ range is certiﬁed in accordance with the Oeko-Tex standard. REACH

The EU’s regulations and chemical legislation that are to protect people and the environment from chemical hazards. REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals and provides a single system for chemicals regulation within the EU. Together with an external consultant, Segers has developed a tool to help suppliers maintain total awareness of chemicals in the risk zones. AS A MEMBER OF THE CHEMICAL GROUP AT RICE IVF (formerly SWEREA IVF) Segers is part of the Chemicals Group at Rice IVF that regularly monitors the registration and evaluation of new and old substances that are fabric-related to ensure that our products do not pose any health risks.

FTI (PACKAGING AND NEWSPAPER RECYCLING) Segers is affiliated to the Swedish FTI register, which means we accept our responsibility as a producer and contribute to Sweden being one of the best recycling countries in the world. Since 1994, there has been producer responsibility for packaging, which means that any company which manufactures, imports or sells packaging is responsible for the collection and recycling of its packaging. HIGH C Most bacteria only die in 72°C heat and above, yet most work clothing only tolerates a 40-60°C wash. Most of Segers’ garments can be washed at 85°C without compromising on quality or lifespan. A safer garment for a healthier work environment. TENCEL® Lyocell, or Tencel®, as the brand is known, is a natural fibre that is a great alternative to cotton. Tencel® is made from cellulose from trees grown on sustainable forest plantations. Segers is working to increase the number of Tencel® garments in its range.

TENCEL® LYOCELL Tencel® from Lenzing Fibers, or lyocell as the generic fabric is known, is a natural material. The structure of TENCEL® fibres means they allow 50% more moisture through than cotton, are particularly silky and comfortable against the skin and give a cool sensation. The fabric is also very resistant to bacteria. CANVAS Strong and coarse cotton material in plain weave. FIL Á FIL (sometimes written fil-a-fil or filafil, French, which means roughly thread by thread) is a rather thin cloth. It is woven using a plain weave with a mix of yarns in several, very similar shades. This gives an irregular, mottled effect. Normally, it is the warp that creates the different shades. DOMESTIK A sturdy plain weave cotton cloth. In recent years, synthetic material has also been blended in, for instance, 50% polyester. GABARDINE A tightly woven weave that is smooth on one side and has a diagonal ribbed surface on the other (right side). Gabardine is a type of twill. BATAVIA A weave technique of cloth that is even-sided, normally a 2/2 twill but sometimes a 3/3 twill. Batavia was originally the name of a silk cloth made using the batavia technique. Batavia has a special white colour and shine. SATIN Satin weave has a high number of floats on its fabric which gives a dense, smooth and soft cloth. In warp-faced satins, the warp is seen most clearly on the right side, while in weft satins, the weft is predominantly visible. The part of the textile that is to be most visible is denser that the other. The shiny surface of satin is achieved by pressing cold cloth with a hot iron. CRINKLE A way of treating cotton cloth. It is garment-dyed, washed and shrunk so it gets a crinkled finish.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SEGERS GARMENT! • Dark garments may contain excess dye. Wash before use.

Blood - Remove the stain immediately with cold water. Then wash with hot water and enzyme detergent containing perborate.

• Follow the washing instructions on the garment label. • Hand-washing is not more gentle on the garment than machine washing.

Fat - Remove immediately with acetone, petrol or methylated spirit, using a minimum of liquid.

• Temperatures lower than those recommended can cause colour loss. • Do not use fabric softener. It causes pilling.

Hand disinfectant - You can remove stains by pouring a teaspoon of citric acid in the washing machine.

• Do not mix whites and colours in a wash. • Heavily-soiled garments must not be washed with light fabrics.

Coffee - Remove with hot water and enzyme detergent containing perborate.

• Never wash socks and wool with woven materials. • Specific stain removal must be done before washing.

Ballpoint pen - Remove with methanol or methylated spirit. Rinse with water.

• Always try to remove stains when they are "fresh". • Do not pack the machine full. This may cause permanent creasing. • Never soak overnight. Instead, run a soaking programme. • Do not exceed the highest tumble-drying temperature. • Never iron directly over a transfer print.

How to care for your leather items.

Segers’ quality 650 (Batavia) is a long-pile 100% cotton fibre. Batavia is a weaving technique that makes the fabric even-sided and the name originally comes from a silk fabric in the Batavia style. Batavia has a special white colour and fine shine in its finish.

Regularly clean leather and suede. At least once per year if it is a frequently used item. Using a wet cloth or rag, rub in saddle or gallop soap and clean as normal. Dry with a clean damp cloth.

As with all exclusive things, a Batavia jacket must be treated with respect and care. All Segers’ jackets in quality 650 can be washed at 85°C, provided there are no buttons or other accessory that needs lower temperatures. However, it is still very important to follow the washing instructions carefully and to not use fabric softener. If bleach or other chemicals are needed, these should be used with great care for longer durability.

After cleaning it is important to re-moisturise the leather with leather grease. This must be applied on a clean surface. Use a lint-free cloth to apply the grease to the leather. Let it absorb for a few hours. Dry off the excess with another lint-free cloth. Store your leather items rolled up (not folded). Leather items that are not lined, but have the raw suede on the reverse, can shed or fluff. This wears away over time and the suede fluff that may transfer onto other clothing can be simply brushed away. It is recommended to brush away any suede fluff on other garments before washing.

WOOLLEN GARMENTS

Wool = high comfort = correct care is essential.

Garments with indigo colouring.

When you buy a garment that contains wool, it is very important you observe the washing instructions. Use a detergent that is designed for woollen garments and do not use a fabric softener. Wash the garment inside out, use the wool programme and then hang up to dry. Always use a press cloth. This is especially important for trousers.

It is important to note that garments with indigo colouring contain excess pigments and there may be dry/wet deposits prior to rewashing. The majority of Segers’ denim items are garment washed once before delivery, but indigo coloured garments often need several washes to stop colour run. The exact number of washes needed will depend on how light or dark the garment is. Remember that dry deposits can occur on light furniture, untreated wood, light clothing, underwear and shoes.

You should also air the garment from time to time. Use a clothes roller and brush to freshen up the garment. Avoid spraying perfume directly on the garment. We recommend you always store trousers hanging in their pressed creases. Jackets, waistcoats and skirts should be hung on hangers.

Wash your denim garments inside out. Do not load the machine too full, as this can cause permanent creasing and excess dye is harder to wash out. Follow the garment’s washing advice carefully, and wash with similar colours. Wash according to the recommended care instructions before use.

First is our women’s tunic 3512 in our new Domestik collection in the healthcare programme. You choose your size based on your chest measurement - this +model of tunic is more A-line with more generous measurements over the hips. Remember that when you select the size for your top and bottom, always use your chest and hip measurements respectively. These measurements do not always give the same garment size.
