The High School (HS) Counselor plays a key role in promoting student success by leading a comprehensive counseling program that addresses the academic, developmental, social-emotional, and career-related needs of students. This role involves working closely with students, faculty, staff, and families to provide proactive, responsive services. The HS Counselor also serves as an advisor to students on academic progress, career planning, and life skills
Your Responsibilities at ASB:
New Student Transition:
● Review and evaluate incoming student records, interview new students and families, and manage class placement and scheduling
● Communicate with teachers about new students and monitor their adjustment and progress
● Support course selection and registration processes in collaboration with the IB Coordinator
● Facilitate the Student Ambassador program to welcome and integrate new students
Individual and Group Counseling:
● Counsel students with social, emotional, behavioral, or academic challenges
● Offer crisis intervention and coordinate with case managers for at-risk students
● Refer students to external services as needed and coordinate follow-ups
● Organize and maintain community connections for referral services
● Lead small group sessions to address specific student needs
Student Transitions:
● Meet with math and language teams for academic placement recommendations
● Lead the grade 8 to 9 transition program in collaboration with the middle school counselor
● Manage student re-registration, transfers, and withdrawals across grade levels
Academic Assistance:
● Liaise with students, parents, and teachers regarding schedule changes.
● Monitor students' credit progress and review academic standing each semester.
● Develop and implement action plans for at-risk students
● Stay informed on school policies, procedures, and graduation requirements
● Work with the Student Success Team in support of Individualized Learning Plans
College Counseling:
● Guide students and families to identify best-fit universities and programs.
● Manage the college application process and write in-depth school reports for seniors.
● Supervise the National Merit Scholarship Program

● Develop and update college counseling resources for students and families, including the school profile
● Connect with college and university admissions offices and host student and parent information meetings with university representatives
● Interpret and share PSAT/SAT results as needed
● Provide information on and support for summer programs (with a focus on grade 11)
● Collaborate with the Associate Principal to deliver the Rising Senior Workshop program and support students and families as they transition from ASB.
Advisory and Leadership:
● Co-lead the Grade Level Advisory Team, developing and delivering lessons on mental health and social-emotional learning (SEL)
● Coordinate with the Advisory Program team to enhance delivery and respond to specific needs
● Facilitate the Senior Seminar Program to support students in their final year.
Who We’re Looking For?
The ideal candidate will bring:
● A Bachelro’s Degree with a credential in Counseling from an accredited program with at least three years of relevant experience in a school setting.
● An understanding of the developmental needs of young adolescents
● Knowledge of legal and ethical practices in counseling, including maintaining confidentiality
● Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to manage complex situations and work effectively
● The ability to build positive relationships across cultures and promote collegial collaboration
● A commitment to DEIJ and SEL practices
