A minimum of 192 working days per school year

The Middle and High School Librarian serves as an information curator, coach, and instructional consultant, leading the integration of the information and media literacy program into the instructional framework They collaborate with teachers and administrators to ensure students have the skills to retrieve, evaluate, and ethically use information while fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning. The Librarian manages physical and virtual learning spaces and actively supports the development of information fluency and media literacy across the school community

Your Responsibilities at ASB:

Program Leadership and Instructional Support

● Provide access and instruction in information fluency and media literacy among students and staff

● Collaborate with teachers and administrators to integrate information literacy across curricula and support inquiry-based learning

● Teach lessons to build students' competencies in retrieving, evaluating, and ethically using information

● Guide students in listening, viewing, reading, and interpreting information effectively.

● Curate and maintain a diverse collection of physical and digital resources aligned with the curriculum.

● Support students and staff in creating and sharing content within digital publishing guidelines

● Develop physical and virtual library spaces that foster a welcoming environment for learning and exploration

Community Engagement:

● Coach students, staff, and families in managing and curating informational and recreational resources.

● Organize community events to encourage reading and inquiry, promoting information fluency and media literacy

● Partner with parents and teachers to promote literacy and support student research projects

● Communicate with the school community about new materials, services, and tools

● Maintain the library’s online presence and update the school community

Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities:

● Collaborate with teachers to integrate media literacy, digital fluency, and interdisciplinary AI concepts, enriching students' critical information skills

● Participate in curriculum planning and faculty meetings to align library services with instructional goals

● Work with the Director of IT Services to manage digital tools, media resources, and AI platforms that enhance access to digital information

● Engage in continuous professional learning in media literacy, library sciences, AI, and educational technology to promote responsible digital citizenship.

Administrative:

● Develop library policies and procedures aligned with ALA standards

● Supervise and coach library staff, student assistants, and volunteers

● Manage the library budget, ensuring flexibility for emerging needs and resource procurement

● Maintain records and inventories of materials and equipment

● Design and implement efficient library systems and continuous evaluation to improve services.

Student Wellbeing:

● Lead a grade-level advisory to support students' social-emotional growth

● Chaperone students on week-long experiential learning trips

● Supervise students during breaks and transitions to ensure a safe and supportive environment

● Lead or support co-curricular activities that enrich student learning and growth

Who We’re Looking For? The ideal candidate will bring:

● A professional qualification in Library and Information Science or a related field from an accredited institution

● At least three years of experience in a school library or educational setting

● Knowledge of ALA standards and best practices for library and media and information literacy programs.

● An understanding of young adolescents' developmental needs, treating each student as an individual

● A commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) practices
