In this role, proficiency in Spanish language skills, an understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for adolescents acquiring language, and a solid pedagogical foundation will be necessary to foster inquiry-driven and project-based learning experiences
Your Responsibilities at ASB:
Teaching and Learning:
● Demonstrate fluency and accuracy in spoken and written Spanish and model language usage
● Enhance language acquisition by delivering comprehensive Spanish instruction
● Differentiate amongst language competencies, incorporating evidence-based practices, research-based pedagogy, and knowledge of learners to deliver instruction
● Introduce students to the rich tapestry of Spanish culture, history, and literature, enhancing their global perspectives and using students’ evolving abilities and interests to foster engagement and growth.
● Design authentic learning engagements which encourage students to connect language learning to global issues, real world contexts, and cross-cultural understanding
● Infuse instruction with the IB principles and Learner Profile attributes, nurturing inquiry, knowledge, and compassion
● Tailor instruction to meet adolescent learners’ cognitive, social, emotional, and physical needs
● Leverage technology to enhance language learning, incorporating digital tools that resonate with digitally adept students.
● Assess students' language proficiency using developmentally appropriate methods, and provide constructive, timely feedback for improvement
● Maintain confidentiality with honesty and ethical integrity
Collaboration and Planning:
● Employ collaborative practices with a commitment to collective efficacy.
● Engage in professional learning to stay abreast of language acquisition teaching and adolescent cognitive development
● Continuously reflect on teaching methods and their effectiveness, adjusting strategies to optimize student learning outcomes
● Participate in shared decision-making and community-building experiences

● Document all units in ATLAS Rubicon
● Utilize Google Team Drives to develop and store collaborative plans and resources
Learning Environments:
● Cultivate an inclusive classroom environment that welcomes and supports diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring equitable opportunities for all students.
● Implement effective classroom management strategies that foster a positive and respectful space.
● Embrace the diversity of ASB and Mumbai, moving beyond the classroom walls and encouraging students to maximize their impact on the community
Student Wellbeing:
● Lead a grade-level advisory
● Chaperone students on one of ASB’s week-long experiential learning trips.
● Oversee students during break, lunch, and other transitions.
● Lead or support co-curricular activities to enrich student learning and personal growth
Who We’re Looking For? The ideal candidate will bring:
● A Bachelor's degree from an accredited program and teaching certification.
● A minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience in a K-12 accredited school
● Fluency and accuracy as a reader, writer, speaker, and listener in Spanish
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that promote collegial interaction across cultures
● Experience with the IB Diploma language acquisition program
● An understanding of young adolescents' developmental needs, treating each student as an individual
● A commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) practices.
