The American School of Bombay (ASB) seeks an English Language Arts teacher with a growth mindset to join our team of collaborative and passionate international middle school educators. Your Responsibilities at ASB:
Teaching and Learning:
● Utilize a repertoire of teaching skills and knowledge of adolescent learners to deliver instruction
● Provide scaffolding and support when needed, and gradually encourage more independent thinking and problem-solving
● Use a culturally responsive and inclusive lens to teach and assess knowledge, understanding, skills, and capabilities
● Encourage creative and innovative thinking by exposing students to a variety of literary genres, texts, and language-based resources.
● Nurture skill development in reading, writing, speaking, and listening
● Leverage digital tools to promote literacy and language skills as well as foster digital literacy
● Create opportunities for students to engage and collaborate with peers to promote understanding and empathy across diverse cultures
● Tailor teaching methods to match middle school students' cognitive, social, and emotional development, interests, and prior knowledge.
● Maintain confidentiality with honesty and ethical integrity.
Curriculum and Planning:
● Design engaging and relevant units that connect to real-world problems or situations and provide students with opportunities for voice and choice
● Align curriculum to school-specific standards and outcomes
● Embed concepts and skills that promote a holistic understanding of science.
Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities:
● Engage in current and relevant in-house and role-specific professional development
● Promote collegial interaction through the use of interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
● Participate in professional communities to share best practices
● Share, and reflect on, best practices, concepts, and systems related to planning and designing instruction in collaboration with colleagues.
● Actively participate in team, divisional, and all staff meetings.
● Develop and document engaging units using school-specific tools and platforms

Student Wellbeing:
● Lead a grade-level advisory
● Chaperone students on one of ASB’s week-long experiential learning trips
● Oversee students during break, lunch, and other transitions
● Embrace the diversity of ASB and Mumbai by moving beyond the classroom walls and encouraging students to maximize their impact on the community.
● Lead or support co-curricular activities to enrich student learning and personal growth
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
● A Bachelor's degree from an accredited program and teaching certification.
● A minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience in a K-12 accredited school
● An understanding of young adolescents' developmental needs, treating each student as an individual
● A commitment to infusing and upholding Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) practices
