PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The Holiday Season is upon us and I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! And in addition to a yuletide greeting, a big “Thank You” to our ASCE-TMB board members for donating their time and efforts to the betterment of our Civil Engineering profession. Also a special “Thanks” to all our sponsors. It is because of their generosity that we are able to provide a quality service to our membership. In the spirit of giving, every December ASCE joins forces with APWA to host a joint luncheon where we select one local charity to support-many thanks to APWA (Tom Adams) for coordinating and hosting this event. As usual, the luncheon was a huge success and this year we donated to CARE Chest of Sierra Nevada. CARE Chest is a critical health resource for many of Northern Nevadans in need of free medical equipment, supplies, prescription assistance, and wellness education. Care Chest has been in business for 25 years and has helped countless individuals without adequate health insurance in their time of need. This is a great service to our local community and I ask that all of you visit their website (http://www.carechest.com/) to learn more about Care Chest, and hopefully consider donating to this all important, non-profit organization. In conclusion, just a few more items to mention. Bryan Byrne (YMF President) asked me to indicate that the annual YMF volunteer event at the Food Bank will be held on December 16th, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Carpooling for this event will be coordinated through YMF, so please visit our website to RSVP and secure a spot for this great cause! https://www.ascetruckeemeadows.org/events/ Also, remember that we are in the midst of our annual ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch sponsorship drive, and while considering you patronage, please keep in mind that sponsorship forms must be submitted by December 15th. Wishing all of you a wonderful Holiday Season and prosperous New Year!! John Bonnett, P.E. President, ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch

Dear ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch Board and Members, The University of Nevada, Reno will be hosting the American Society of Civil Engineers Mid-Pacific Regional Conference, a premier engineering convention that promotes practical application of scholastic knowledge in various engaging competitions between engineering students. With over 600 students, faculty, and engineers from the United States, Canada, and China, the conference, taking place April 7-9, 2016, attracts international attention both in the engineering community and with the general public. All volunteering is welcome! The conference is composed of many competitions that include the Concrete Canoe, Steel Bridge, Daniel W. Mead Paper, Geo-Wall, Water Treatment, Water Research, and Transportation that all test the participants’ abilities in design, analysis, and practical execution. After reviewing the information enclosed, I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have regarding what being a judge entails, my contact information being at the bottom of this page.
