Monthly Newsletter August 2016
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Our August Newsletter is here, along with one of the premier summer events in the Truckee Meadows, Hot August Nights!! This popular event began in 1986 and has put Reno-Sparks on the map as a “must see” destination, and attracts car enthusiasts from around the world. So if you’re a car buff like me and would like to partake in some of the festivities, please visit hotaugustnights.net to find a complete calendar of events along with other interesting information about Hot August Nights! And now to mention some of the recent/upcoming events for ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch (TMB). But before I do that, I would like to mention that our “Featured Sponsor” for August is NewFields, Inc., and you can read their current company biography on page 4 of this newsletter. Sponsorship is vital to the success of ASCE TMB, and is why we include company information to highlight our sponsors for each month of the year. NewFields is a frequent sponsor of ASCE TMB and on behalf of our Board of Directors and Membership, I would like to thank them for their continued support!! Beginning with the news and upcoming events, it’s that time of year again for our local election of officers to serve on the ASCE TMB Board of Directors. We will be distributing a ballot shortly listing the current nominees for openings, and newly elected officers will be sworn in at our ASCE Luncheon On Sept. 6th. Also, there are a couple of upcoming YMF events that I would like to mention. Thanks to the efforts of YMF President Bryan Byrne, there is a “Camping Weekend” scheduled for Aug. 12th – Aug. 14th, and a “Lake Tahoe Beach Trip” scheduled for Aug. 27th. For more Information about these two fun-filled events, please visit our website at www.ascetruckeemeadows.org, and click on the “Events” tab at the top of our home page. Lastly, to no surprise, the Marv Byars’ Golf Tournament was a huge success again this year, and ASCE-TMB would like to thank Allen Tyron, all the volunteers, and The Club at Arrowcreek for hosting this awesome event!! Also in our newsletter, you will read that Andy Hummel from the City of Sparks is our guest speaker for this month’s luncheon (Aug 9th), and the topic of his presentation will be The North Truckee Drain Relocation Project. Please join us at the luncheon to meet Andy and learn more about this important and interesting project. Best Regards, John Bonnett, P.E. President, ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch
