PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE With the arrival of the summer season, I would like to take this time to wish everyone a warm, fun and safe summer! Let’s get ready for some sun and some golf in the spirit of supporting the Student Chapter of ASCE at the University of Nevada, Reno! The 17th Annual Marv Byars’ Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Friday July 14, 2017 at the Arrow Creek Golf Course with an 8:00am shotgun start. Signups are open! The event also includes a player BBQ after the tournament, hole-in-one prizes, closest-to-thehole contests, longest drive and putting contests and a tremendous raffle that seems to get better and better every year. Student representatives from ASCE will also be at the event volunteering and giving us some time to meet them and see were the raised money is going. Tee Sponsorships and Hole-In-One Sponsorships are available. Please consider putting together a team to support this event! Elections for the Truckee Meadows Branch of ASCE are quickly approaching! If you ever wanted to get involved with the Board or if you have ever been curious about our Board Meetings, I would highly recommend visiting a Board Meeting. They are open and welcome to all. The next Board Meeting will be held Thursday June 29, 2017 at noon at Sparks City Hall and lunch is provided. We are looking for new Directors-at-Large and committee chairmen to join our team! HOW TO START YOUR OWN FIRM Presentation Summary: Starting your own company is the ultimate American Dream, but very few individuals take the leap. This interactive and entertaining presentation will provide attendees firsthand experience, survival techniques and lessons learned from Mr. Pakpour's experience when he and three of his co-workers started their own consulting firm in 2004. Mr. Pakpour presentation will highlight some do's and don'ts when considering starting a firm. Topics will include, how to get started, picking the right partner, how much money is needed, business plan preparation, accounting, marketing, branding, insurance, and host of other issues related to starting your own firm.

Mr. Pakpour is a registered professional civil engineer with nearly two decades of public works design and construction management experience. He is a graduate of San Jose State University with a Bachelors and Masters in Civil Engineering. His career includes working for both public agencies and private firms. He is the past president (2012) of the Northern California Chapter of American Public Works Association (APWA) and has been a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers since 1991, two weeks before starting his freshmen year in college. Mr. Pakpour has traveled throughout California and Nevada speaking on this topic as a way to give back to the profession at various local ASCE and APWA chapters along with local University.

Water/Wastewater Engineer Stantec’s Nevada water Practice is looking for a highly motivated Mid-Level Project Engineer with municipal water/wastewater and/or storm water experience for our Reno office. The successful candidate will use his/ her technical abilities to plan, analyze, and design water and wastewater facilities (distribution, collection, and treatment) in the municipal market sector. The successful candidate will be required to:  Perform detailed studies, modeling and design of municipal water and wastewater systems and related facilities;  With minimal supervision, prepare plans and specifications and other contract documents for water and wastewater facilities:  Supervise and coordinate engineers and technical staff to ensure that the projects’ needs are met in a timely and effective manner;  Meet with clients and contractors to review project needs and coordinate field conditions;  Coordinate with internal and external design disciplines;  Manage project schedule and budget;  Perform engineering services during construction, including coordination of inspectors;  Provide scope of work and proposal support as necessary.  Research issues related to wastewater and water resources that impact individual projects; and  Write detailed design reports to document analyses. Your Capabilities and Credentials:

Must have a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering. Professional Engineer in Nevada or ability to obtain within six months, required. Licensed in California a plus.  Must be able to effectively use AutoCAD Civil 3D for plan and profiles, site grading, corridors, gravity and sewer pipe networks, survey points, and have overall basic CAD skills.  Must have a minimum of 7 years’ experience in engineering analysis and design of water distribution and wastewater collection facilities.  can manage interdisciplinary design teams with minimal supervision.  Must be self-motivated individual possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.  Must have experience in providing construction support services, such as change in field conditions resolution, representing agencies at field meetings, and observation of construction.  Various hydrologic and hydraulic software platforms used in the planning and design of infrastructure is a plus. Jensen Precast has been the West-Coast leader in precast concrete manufacturing since 1968. The Corporate engineering department provides technical support for the products, sales teams, and manufacturing facilities throughout the company. The department provides this support in the form of product design, new product development, product data management, structural reinforcing design, and product lifting design. The department also ensures that all products comply with local and national design codes and regulations. The engineering department is currently engaged in many exciting IT/IS projects that utilize cutting edge technology to efficiently and expediently design, cost, and produce our products. We are currently seeking a Professional Engineer to join our team in a senior design role. This individual will primarily manage the structural analysis and design of large custom products as well as modified standards. This individual will also be responsible for the review of designs produced by other team members within the engineering department. When necessary, this individual will affix their engineering seal to structural calculations and shop drawings.

Additionally, the applicant will contribute to the general design methods and philosophies of the engineering department. Major Duties  Using in-house design software, designs parts and assemblies to meet specific applications. Revises existing products to meet new requirements or to make improvements. 

Interacts with Sales to facilitate customer needs.

Manages cad operators to complete steel reinforcing and fabrication drawings, and support documentation for catalogs and web pages.
