PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE I am extremely excited and honored to serve as the next president of the ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch. Through my involvement with ASCE over the last 5 years, I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from many great leaders and enjoy experiences that have added great value to my career. Past president, Amber Sosa, continued this tradition of excellent branch leadership and I want to sincerely thank her for her dedication and outstanding service to this branch during her tenure with ASCE. In addition to great branch leadership, another clear observation during my time with ASCE is the truly special involvement and support that we receive from our local members in the Truckee Meadows. Thank you to all of our members and sponsors for your engagement with the various ASCE events that we offer throughout the year. Our incoming ASCE TMB Board will work hard to continue the standard of excellence formed by our predecessors and continue to provide great value to our members. We are looking forward to another eventful year filled with great activities. Our goals over the next twelve months will be to increase the value of our organization to our members through industry benefits, professional development, younger member retention, and student support. Specifically, we will focus on the following: Raise more funding in order to enhance branch programming, support the development of our members and provide more opportunity for our younger members to attend ASCE regional and national events Continue to provide excellent professional development opportunities for our members by offering a wide variety of speakers and topics at our monthly luncheons, as well as PE review courses and technical tours through YMF Grow student and younger member involvement by interacting and discussing the value of professional organizations with engineering students at UNR in hopes of developing them into our future ASCE and workplace leaders Increase our K-12 outreach efforts to promote the importance of engineering to our next generation of engineers Continue to provide outstanding support for our student chapter. Did you know that the branch contributed over $8,000 last year in scholarships and other funds to support our UNR student chapter? I have high hopes for the coming year and look forward to working with the entire TMB membership to achieve these goals. Your support is what makes this branch so great, so please continue to attend our events; submit local projects, engineers, and young engineers for recognition at our Annual Awards and Student Recognition Banquet in March 2018; participate in the Annual Marv Byars’ Memorial Golf Tournament; and encourage your company to become a sponsor or continue their sponsorship. It is an honor to serve as the next president and I look forward to making this upcoming year a success. Dan Stucky President, ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch
