Luncheon Summary

Monthly Newsletter August 2018

Washoe County School District Infrastructure Plan + GeoExchange Heating and Cooling Systems With the passing of WC-1, the Capital Improvements and Major Projects Program is in full swing. Funding is now available to adequately repair older schools and to build new schools to address overcrowding. A sizeable high school addition is already complete and three new school sites (two middle schools and one elementary school) are currently under construction. Design of an additional middle school and high school are underway, with ten more planned schools by 2025. Support facilities are also receiving much needed expansions and upgrades. Washoe County School District (WCSD) engaged administrators, educators, parents, architects, and engineers to solicit and gather community input on the new designs. One of the major goals was to choose a facility design that was as cost, energy, and water efficient as possible. One of the key components was a closed loop geoexchange (ground source) heating and cooling system. This innovative systems utilizes the earth’s relatively constant underground heat temperature to provide heating and cooling to the school’s individual mechanical systems. Speakers: Adam Searcy is the Chief Facilities Management Officer for the Washoe County School District (WCSD). Adam began working with WCSD in September of 2016. In his current role, Adam provides oversight of all aspects of capital projects, facility repair, renewal, safety, maintenance and housekeeping for the Washoe County School District. Previously, Adam worked with Washoe County as Road Operations Superintendent, and with NDOT as a Senior Project Manager. Adam received his MBA from UNR and his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Iowa. Jackie Borman is the Assistant Director of Construction and Project Management for the Washoe County School District. Jackie oversees construction project management activities within the Washoe County School District including new schools and support facilities, additions to existing facilities including building/site, renovation projects, revitalization, renewal, IT construction, FFE, remodel and facility maintenance. Previously, Jackie worked for HDR as an Engineering Project Manager performing project and construction management, and value engineering and risk management. She was also the Public Works Engineer for the City of Scappoose in Oregon. Jackie received her Civil Engineering degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage. www.ascetruckeemeadows.org
