President’s Message

I really love the way Fall starts to bring cooler temperatures, vibrant colors, and hopefully a lot of precipitation along with it. Whether you celebrate the seasons or not, I hope you all get to enjoy time with the ones you care most about and wind down what I’m sure many will agree has been a busy and chaotic year for design, development and construction services.

I want to send out a friendly reminder that sponsorship opportunities are now underway for the 2019 calendar year. I have already received a number of confirmations for Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Also, I’m giving a special shout-out to Lumos and Associates for picking up our first ever Platinum Sponsorship. Thank you Lumos!!

YMF sponsorships are available as well which include great technical tour opportunities and a chance to participate in the third annual Office Crawl event. Don’t wait to send in your forms as space is limited. Also, check out our new annual luncheon pre-paid option which gives you $5 off of the monthly membership rate pricing and automatically RSVPs you for every luncheon we have. If you can’t make it, send someone in your place!! Skip the RSVP and walk right through the door; how groovy is that!?

Thursday, November 15th, 2018 ASCE will again be hosting a volunteer event at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Kids must be at least 10 years of age to volunteer but it is a great way to give back to our community for those in need at this time of year. Please contact Kristin Kramer at kkramer@lumosinc.com.

I am also very excited to hear what our friends at Aerotek have in store for us at this month’s luncheon. I’m sure many of you out there have felt the strain that this economic upturn has caused for our industry. Heavy workloads, a seemingly endless trail of new work coming on board, and a dwindling pool of applicants to bring on board. While these are great problems to have, recruiting challenges are something I hear about time and time again. So, this month’s speaker intends to touch on some of those challenges we are all stuck facing and how the trends in our marketplace are shifting.

I look forward to seeing you all at the next luncheon and as always if you are ever interested in getting involved with the board, some of our volunteer activities, or just have a simple suggestion, please don’t hesitate to get a hold of one of us.
