PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE September should be a busy month in Reno, with lots of events happening all around the Truckee Meadows, including the Nugget Rib Cook-Off, Great Balloon Race, Reno Air Races and Street Vibrations. We hope that all of you can get out with friends and family and enjoy all this area has to offer. As we start to transition to fall and cooler weather, we will also start our own transition here at the ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch. At the September luncheon the TMB’s new officers will be installed, marking the end of my service as president to this great branch. Although my involvement in ASCE over the past 6 years has all been enjoyable, this past year has been a truly special experience for me filled with many wonderful moments. Thank you to all our membership and supporters for the opportunity to serve as your president. On a personal level, I am extremely grateful for the connections and friendships that I have formed and for the great events that I have participated in. Over the past year, we have continued to grow our membership base, increased branch participation and sponsorships, offered excellent speakers at our monthly luncheons, taken our annual awards banquet to new levels, and even won national recognition as the Most Outstanding Section and Branch for Small Sections and Branches. The best part about the upcoming transition is that the incoming officers are the best group that we have ever had. Led by your new president, Randy Rice, the incoming officers are a dedicated group who will balance branch traditions with new ideas to continue to build our local branch into the future. Looking forward to seeing what this branch accomplishes! As always, if you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me or Randy. Thank you for everything! City of Reno - Zoning Code Updates Hello ASCE Members, The City of Reno is forming a technical stakeholder working group to assist with the City of Reno Zoning Code update process. This group will serve as technical reviewers and advisers throughout the zoning code update, which is anticipated to take two (2) to three (3) years to complete. The City of Reno is looking for individuals to serve on this technical stakeholder working group, and has asked for members of ASCE to participate. The ideal candidate will be able to review many sections of the zoning code and provide input holistically. The group will serve as a sounding board for City staff to flag issues in drafts documents and help to brainstorm technical solutions. The group is anticipated to meet on a monthly basis, with additional meetings occurring during critical points of the process. The first meeting is anticipated to kick-off on September 17th, 2018 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The City is looking for one (1) to two (2) members to volunteer their time to participate in the working group. One person will be designated as the primary liaison and a secondary member as needed to attend the working group meetings, but given the 2-3 year time commitment, we would like to have a back-up ASCE member be available to attend as an alternate, if the primary person is not available. Please respond to RiceRa@Reno.gov if you are interested in serving on the working group or if you have questions. The committee selection process will be determined once the candidate list has been compiled and will be dependent on the number of interested volunteers. Thank you!
