President's Message

This year, Engineers Week is celebrated from February 16th – 22nd. Founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers in 1951, EWeek is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and welleducated future engineering workforce by increasing the understanding of, and the interest in, engineeringandtechnologycareers.

I have my 7th/8th grade home room teacher, science teacher, and basketball and volleyball coach, Mr. Sementi to thank for introducing me to Engineering. I recently found out he is retiring after 31 yearswiththeWest ValleySchool District andknowheinfluencedseveral otherstowardscareersin engineeringthroughouthiscareer.

YMF is organizing our fourth annual Office Crawl for February 14, 2020. Companies that sponsor YMFareabletoparticipateandshowcasetheir businessestostudents,lettingthemexplore firsthandassoon-to-begraduates.

RTC Public Affairs Manager

A 45-year Nevada resident, Michael joined the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC) in May2002. HeisthePublicAffairsManager for theagency.

Prior to his affiliation with the RTC, he was the local chief of staff for United States Senator Richard H. Bryan, managing the Senator’s northern Nevada state office in Reno. Before joining the Senator’s staff, he accomplished a 20-year bankingcareer withWellsFargoBank,formerlyFirst InterstateBank,asVicePresident intheNorthern Nevada retail division. His banking and political tenure provided him with broad experience in many areas of businessandgovernment,mediaaffairs,communityengagementandoutreach.

During his tenure with the RTC, Michael has been instrumental in coordinating the broad and comprehensive communityoutreachfor theprojects andprograms theagencyadministers.Heserves as anagencyspokesperson andleadstheRTC brandguidingkeymessagingtoexternal audiences.Heisa member oftheRTC leadershipteam steering its approaches in government affairs, strategic planning and establishing partnerships with community organizations,local,stateandfederal entities,electedandgovernmentofficialsandthegeneral public.

Michael has received many national and local awards for his work in community engagement and public involvement.He is the recipient ofthe "Mark Curtis,Sr.Professional ofthe Year" award from the PublicRelations Society ofAmerica Sierra Nevada Chapter,the“Ad Person oftheYear” from theAmerican AdvertisingFederation for his community contributions, and “The Jefferson Award,” awarded through a prestigious national and local recognition system that honors community and public service in America. In December 2010, Michael was honored with the distinguished "National Association of Secretaries of State Medallion Award" by Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller in recognition of his efforts in support of the 2010 U.S. Census. Michael will again leadtheWashoeCountyCompleteCountCommitteefor the2020Census.

ASCE PE Review Course - Spring 2020

ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch YMF will be hosting a review course for the morning session topics of the Civil PE exam. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9PM, beginningFebruary11thandendingMarch10th.

The review sessions will cover: hydrology, geometrics, hydraulics, structures, traffic, geotechnical, construction, and environmental. Courses will be taught by local professors and professionals. Please note the review sessions will be geared toward prepping you for the morningportionoftheexam.However,iftimepermitsintheindividualsessions,lecturesmaygo intomoredepthfortheafternoontopics.
