SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER

DESCRIPTION

Perform complex and difficult licensed professional engineering functions specific to the scoping, investigation, design, permitting, plan review, construction management and inspection of capital improvement infrastructure and new development projects.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Incumbent is expected to develop, estimate, design, bid, budget and oversee construction activities on the most complex engineering and capital improvement projects with limited or no supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications to continue in the recruitment process: Education and Experience:Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering or a related engineering field and five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience. Licenses and Certificates:Must possess and maintain the equivalent to a valid Nevada Class C driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire. Registr ation as a Licensed Professional Engineer and/or ability to obtain registr ation as a professional engineer in the appropriate discipline in the State of Nevada within six (6) months of hire Must possess and maintain Incident Command System (IC S) 100/200 within six (6) months of hire and ICS 300 as soon as available and all other courses required by the City Civil Service Testing: This is an appointed non-classified position. There is no Civil Service testing for this position. The questions at the end of this job posting will be used by the hiring manager to decide who will be interviewed. As a Transportation Engineer and key member of our team, you'll get to work with the most talented and diverse team of engineers and planners in the Reno transportation market. You will have the chance to provide design expertise in a structured team framework, contributing to the design and construction of roadway projects of varying size, including multi-modal aspect projects. Working with other members of the team, this position includes involvement in the technical project work and the opportunity to communicate and coordinate with team members and clients. You’ll work across the state of Nevada and other southwestern states in support of a broad range of planning and design projects. You will use your understanding of data analysis and experience with technical design, including experience working with MicroStation InRoads, to:

Act as part of a team of professionals on multiple projects of varying size. Inter act with team members and assist in the coordination of work among engineers and detailers. Develop preliminary and detailed construction cost estimates. Assist with conceptual studies. Research design options and documents findings for Project Engineers and/or Project Managers. Work collaboratively with the CAD technician team. Perform other duties as required. Attend design review meetings, and interact with clients as your level of experience progresses.

A minimum of 5 years design experience on relevant transportation projects The ability to identify and solve design and construction challenges Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from accredited university Nevada PE, or the ability to obtain within 3 months Strong proficiency with MicroStation InRoads Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as other commonly employed software .
