PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Looking forward as we transition to another year of service at ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch (TMB), the mission remains the same. Our goal is to provide a quality service to our membership while providing a venue for local engineers and business people to showcase their interests and accomplishments. In addition, growing our membership at both the YMF (Younger Member Forum) and Professional levels is key to our success both locally, and nationally. Recently, some of our TMB and YMF leaders made a trek to ASCE Headquarters in Reston, VA for our annual Presidents and Governors Forum (PGF) and Younger Member Leadership Symposium (YMLS) meetings. The purpose of the PGF is to provide a venue for current Section/Branch and Region Leaders to gain the knowledge to effectively and efficiently run their local units. The YMF on the other hand, is geared towards project management development and leadership skills that young engineers need to enhance their career. It was a greatly beneficial holding these meetings at ASCE Headquarters, by providing direct access to resources and staff, and by providing an opportunity for peer networking on a national level. Another benefit of having the meetings at ASCE headquarters in Reston VA, is that Washington D.C. was just a short train ride away providing a great opportunity to see the sights at our Nation’s Capital. Although not directly related to our leadership training at ASCE, there are definitely parallels when observing our Nation’s leadership from a historical perspective. It was a first-time visit for me, and I must say it was quite awe-inspiring to say the least. A majority of the monuments and museums are part of the National Mall that begins at our Capitol and extends to the Potomac River to the south. These include, the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial and Arlington Cemetery, just to mention a few. And the museums included in the National Mall area have free admission and are as varied as they are numerous, all highlighting our Nation’s history in a very impressive manner. So as we move forward locally at our Truckee Meadows Branch, not only do we hope to improve our current level of service to you, we also hope to-if even just a littleinspire to create the all-important participation that was so vital to our Nation’s development, to further enhance the ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch.
