Welcome from the ASC Board Chair Dear Adhesive and Sealant Industry Professional, This October 20 -22, the Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) invites you to beautiful downtown Greenville, South Carolina for its Fall Convention and EXPO. This year’s meeting will be held at the newly renovated Hyatt Regency Greenville. You will join 600 industry professionals, including 400+ attending the Convention, 150+ exhibiting suppliers attending the EXPO and 50+ attending the Waterborne Short Course, being held concurrently with the meeting We will celebrate Bostik’s 125th Anniversary as they host our kickoff reception on the first night at the Commerce Club, just steps away from our hotel. We will also hear from Bob Marquette, Senior Vice President, Bostik Americas and ASC Board Member, as he shares how Bostik has succeeded for over 125 years, on Wednesday morning. What to Expect in Housing David Crowe, Chief Economist & Senior Vice President, National Association of Home Builders of the U.S. The housing market continues its slow but somewhat steady recovery in the midst of a slow and not so steady economic revival. What will the next year hold and will housing finally break out and return to its previous levels? Come hear about the head winds holding a full recovery back and the tail winds pushing housing back to its prominence. The session will cover how different sections of the country are responding and what markets are best.

David Crowe is Chief Economist and Senior Vice President at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Dr. Crowe is responsible for NAHB’s forecast of housing and economic trends, survey research and analysis of the home building industry and consumer preferences as well as microeconomic analysis of government policies that affect housing. Dr. Crowe is also responsible for the development and implementation of an innovative model of the local economic impact and fiscal cost of new home construction, which has estimated the net impact of new housing in over 500 local markets. Before becoming NAHB’s Chief Economist, Dr. Crowe was NAHB’s Senior Vice President for Regulatory and Housing Policy. Prior to NAHB, Dr. Crowe was Deputy Director of the Division of Housing and Demographic Analysis at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Dr. Crowe holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Kentucky Economics.

Robert (Bob) Marquette, Senior Vice President, Bostik Americas, Bostik, Inc. The evolution of the adhesive industry is reflective of an evolution of multiple companies. In 2014, Bostik is celebrating 125 years in business with a strong devotion to adhesives, sealants, and converted products that bond things together. The objective of the presentation is to share Bostik’s journey over the past 125 years and provide some insight on how to continue to reinvent adhesive technology for future success.

Bob Marquette, Senior Vice President of Bostik worldwide, oversees all aspects of Bostik’s Americas operations, which includes 15 facilities and 1,200 employees in 5 countries. He has spent 36 years with Bostik, and has held a variety of leadership positions including the global management of the company’s Nonwovens business, President of Bostik-Nitta, and General Manager of Bostik’s Industrial Business Unit. Bob joined Bostik shortly after finishing his B.S. degree in Marketing from the Business School at Louisiana State University.

How the Information Economy has Neutralized and Marginalized the Traditional Selling Value Proposition of Companies Richard Farrell, President, Tangent Knowledge Systems

This presentation will focus on how to get your members to reengineer their value proposition around the problems they fix and address, as opposed to the overly familiar and tired approach of the solution that they deliver. All their competitors are doing the latter and that’s why it is so difficult for them to differentiate themselves from their competition. This ultimately results in commoditization.

Richard Farrell is President of Tangent Knowledge Systems. Having been responsible for sales and business development for nearly 25 years. He has worked with a range of companies from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups in helping them optimize their performance by assessing their sales people, sales processes, management structure and strategies. In working with his clients Richard has helped identify performance gaps and provided sales plans to help track, measure and execute objectives to increase the company’s bottom line. Today in his role of President of Tangent Knowledge Systems, Richard continues to actively sell, prospect and manage client relationships in addition to the high performance training and development programs he personally conducts.

Waterborne Adhesives Short Course Program Description Waterborne adhesives are a logical choice for many end use applications where versatile and environmentally friendly solutions are desired. These low VOC (volatile organic compounds) adhesives are easily formulated to optimize performance for a wide variety of applications where water clean-up is important. Fundamental knowledge of formulating and use of this adhesive class will help you to select, design, apply and trouble shoot your adhesive package and ultimately add to your bottom line. The two-day course reviews the base polymers used in waterborne adhesives today and how to formulate with additives for specific applications. Attendees will learn common methods of application as well as mechanical and rheological behavior of the adhesive before and after bonding.
