DAY 6: ASEAN YOUTH ADVOCATE CHAMPION
Who are we? ASEAN YOUTH ADVOCATES NETWORK
The ASEAN Youth Advocates Network is a youth-led international non-profit, socio-civic, and non-governmental organization that promotes civic education among youth and volunteerism as a means of advancing community and nationbuilding. Within the ASEAN area, AYAN envisions progressive communities established by the active engagement of its residents. The ASEAN Youth Advocates Network activities are strengthened by four fundamental pillars. The first is the Global Citizenship Education Pillar, which aims to educate society, particularly through the Sustainable Development Goals, as they become active participants in the community and nationbuilding processes. Second, the Democratic Engagement Pillar highlights the need of educating individuals about their rights and empowering them to put democratic ideas represented in the ASEAN area into reality. The third pillar is the Climate Alliance, which encourages citizens to to join hands in fighting climate change. Lastly is the Community and Wellbeing Pillar where member advocates and organizations are guided as they create projects centered on building progressive human-centered communities.
WHAT IS THE ASEAN YOUTH WEEK 2022? The ASEAN Youth Week (AYW) 2022 is the second of the annual series of celebrating the ASEAN community through a week of advocacy-based initiatives. The event will be spearheaded by the ASEAN Youth Advocates Network (AYAN) this August 6, 2022 - to August 13, 2022. The ASEAN Youth Week holds projects and programs revolving around our 4 core pillars (democratic engagement, global citizenship education, climate alliance, community building and wellbeing) for the ten (10) Southeast Asian countries.
ASEAN Youth Advocate Champion This online asynchronous competition aligns itself with the International Youth Day with the theme of "Making Advocacy a Lifestyle", specifically integrating the four (4) core pillars of AYAN. Through a TikTok video competition, it will be a platform for the youth to alleviate their respective advocacies and showcase the projects or activities they willingly take part in. This will not only promote them and their advocacies and voluntary projects, but this will also serve as a call of encouragement to fellow youth to rise, take action, and participate in various community undertakings that could improve the communities or countries they live in. Advocates with quality videos and promising voluntary activities will attain cash prizes.
