INDIA

Sri Lanka do you know?

"Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3-4)

•There are five million children in Sri Lanka. •More than 1,000 children have been used as soldiers for the Civil War by terrorists. These children needed to be healed, emotionally and spiritually. •There are 2,000 street-living and streetworking children in Colombo city and 2,500 outside Colombo •There are 40,000 child prostitutes, and more than half are boys. •There are more than 1.1 million children under 5 in Sri Lanka. 392,000 (35%) children are nutritionally undernourished. •There are more than 250,000 unschooled children in Sri Lanka.

Nepal do you know?

•Children ages 16 years and below, constitute 41% of Nepal’s population. •More than 50,000 children die annually in Nepal – malnutrition is the underlying cause in more than 60% of those deaths. •31% of children ages 5 -14 are involved in some sort of child labour. •Children have contributed 6% of Nepal’s total domestic production. •12,000 Nepali girls are sold in India every year. •About 95% of street children have an addiction to glue.

"Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.“ (Mark 9:37)

Bhutan do you know?

Whosoever shall receive one of such little children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever receiveth me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. (Mark 9:37)

•Poverty - Almost a quarter of the population in Bhutan lives under the poverty line. •Migrant children - The Bhutanese nationality is very difficult to acquire, as it requires the two parents to be Bhutanese. Thus, many children that are born and live in Bhutan are not nationals. •The right to education - more than one in ten children are not educated. •AIDS - The number of people infected with HIV in Bhutan is increasing. •Child Labour - close to one out of every five children are required to work to support their families in Bhutan. •Sexual exploitation - Sexual exploitation of children is equally very alarming in this country. •Violence against children - Physical abusive punishment is not explicitly restricted in Bhutan. Thus, many children are already victims of poor treatment in the context of family life as well as in school.
