Health and Social Care EDI Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care / Apprenticeship Education Development International (EDI) The Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care is about the delivery of health and social care to clients. This includes direct care, where the focus is hands-on care and on the development and maintenance of the client’s independence. This NVQ is designed for those people who deliver physical, emotional or enabling care to clients, whether you work in health or social care, in the public, private or voluntary sectors. It is designed to be applicable wherever care is delivered including hospitals, the client’s own home, clinic, residential homes, nursing homes, day centres and group homes.

Progression Route If you are seeking a career in Care, achievement of the EDI Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care will allow you to progress towards higher level qualifications. Please note the costs of registration and assessments are included in MABM tuition fees.

Entry Requirements Whilst there is no minimum entry or previous experience requirements, employers may wish to identify their own including: A proven commitment to working in the sector, through work experience or work placement

Achievement of academic and other qualifications Voluntary work and part time employment.

Course Structure To receive a full award in Health and Social Care at Level 2, Candidates must take a total of 6 units to achieve this NVQ. Candidates in the social care sector must take all 4 mandatory units and 2 optional units.

Course Structure The EDI Level 3 Health and Social Care NVQ have two pathways: Children and Young People Adults This enables candidates to take units that are relevant to their working environment. A total of 8 units need to be achieved (4 core, 4 optional). Within the structure of the NVQ, there are units which are specific to the two pathways. There are also generic units which are available to candidates on both pathways. Candidates need to register upfront for the appropriate pathway and this will determine which core units you are required to take. The Health and Social Care NVQ includes additional specialist Units that are relevant to individuals working in: physiotherapy occupational therapy speech and language therapy These specialist units can be taken in addition to the units required for the NVQ. They do not contribute towards the units required for the NVQ.

Mandatory Core (4 Units) Adults UNIT 1 (HSC31): Use and develop methods and systems to communicate record and report UNIT 2 (HSC32): Contribute to the development and maintenance of healthy and safe practices in the working environment UNIT 3 (HSC33): Take responsibility for the continuing professional development of self and others (Personal and Professional Development UNIT 5 (HSC35): Develop practices which promote choice, well-being and protection of all individuals In addition students must take 4 Optional units. Candidates may also take additional units. However these additional units will not count towards the 8 units required for the NVQ.
