Welcome to Learning & Skills Academy Dear All, Learning & Skills Academy (LSA) is an independent higher educational institution based in LutonBedfordshire. We try to make the learning experience at our institution both exciting and stimulating. LSA is committed to providing opportunities for students to reach their potential in their personal and chosen professional careers. About Learning & Skills Academy Learning & Skills Academy (LSA) is an independent college with a wide portfolio of courses geared towards the needs of the students and businesses. LSA has been in existence since January 2010 and has since been awarded a number of accreditation which testaments of LSA commitment to delivering UK and world recognised courses and qualifications and an excellent service to our students. Learning & Skills academy is based in Luton, which is an attractive and fairly large town in Bedfordshire with exciting cultural and sporting facilities. Luton is situated aprox 30 miles from the city of London with a very good public transport links to and from London.

Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management Leading to MBA from UK University INTRODUCTION
This course is designed to give students a good understanding of the responsibilities of a manager and the techniques they will use to deal with different situations as well as the legal requirements within their role. It is articulated to an MBA so therefore entry requirements will cover both courses.

These entry qualifications will also cover the MBA progression. A normal three year degree will be required for progression to MA in Management. Registration within 14 days of start is important as eligibility needs to be confirmed early on.

Diploma in Administrative Management INTRODUCTION
The aim of the Level 4 Diploma in Administrative Management is to develop an appreciation of the people – management functions within the organisation. This qualification provides a general introduction to the relevance of the systems approach as well as asking candidates to consider administration in its wider organisational context. Candidates are introduced to some of the key concerns faced by administrative managers within a rapidly changing environment. It also develops candidate’s appreciation of the need to manage information.

ACCA Professional Qualification The ACCA professional scheme is a course designed by the internationally reputed accountancy body the “Association of Chartered Certified Accountants” (ACCA). The new ACCA qualification consists of fourteen papers bifurcated into two levels – fundamentals and professional. This course has been specially designed for intermediate speakers of English who wish to improve their skills in English. All classes focus on the four main skills: writing, reading, listening and speaking. Students will learn how to use their grammar correctly and will be prepared for the IELTS examination which is the world's leading test of English for higher education. IELTS is widely recognised by universities and colleges in the UK and other English speaking countries as a standard entry qualification The full course is 36 weeks in length and it includes 15 hours of classroom teaching each week from our experienced and qualified English teachers. Classes will take place from Monday to Friday during the mornings (09:30 to 12:30) and afternoons (13:00 to 16:00) .Classes are small and they are 100% student centred with teachers' prepared to help and guide the students throughout their stay. Financial Advice and Funding Your Studies FEES AND LIVING EXPENSES
Your actual expenditure will vary depending on the type of accommodation you choose and your lifestyle. In addition, you should check carefully the cost of the tuition fees you will be required to pay each year and it is recommended that you allow at least a further ÂŁ600 for living expenses for each month of your course. The above sums do not include such items as clothes or prescription charges if you require medication while in the UK. Basic living costs obviously vary according to the individual; it is difficult therefore to be more precise about the cost of living in London. Married students bringing their family with them to the UK will need substantially more funds, especially if bringing children as well. Additionally, you will need to budget for any extra costs that you might not be expecting, such as field trips. Doctoral School students should also consider the extra cost of thesis preparation.

Tuition Fee Payment Policy The student fee means the tuition fee, this does not include the application fee and fees payable to external awarding bodies. Every student has to pay the minimum 50% of the fees prior to issuing them with the Conformation of Acceptance for studies known as CAS statement. All deposits are not transferable to other students. Course fees can be paid in full or in two equal instalments at the discretion of LSA. Students should be made aware about the course and the cost and it is the responsibility of the students to ensure that they have understood the cost involved in taking their courses. Students shall also incur additional costs (exam registration and examination fees) for professional courses, such as IAM, ACCA, LCM, ATHE etc.

NON PAYMENT OF FEES
If students are unable to make payments for fees or other charges by the specified deadlines, penalties will apply and in some circumstances they will be removed from the class register and their details will be passed to Bailiff to collect the dues. REFUNDS
Students have to pay the minimum of 50% fee prior to getting any CAS Statements. Once students have arrived at the college they will have to pay the remaining of their fees at the time of enrolments. Special arrangements can be made where exceptional/ extenuating circumstances apply. These are at the discretion of the college.
OUTSTANDING LIABILITIES
The college will initiate the recovery of all outstanding fees or property at the earliest practical date after the liability has incurred. However if a student owes any fees (for example tuition fees) or is yet to replace or reimburse the college for, property lost or damaged by her or him, admission to the course will be refused after informal notice until the debt is discharged in full. LSA reserves all right to change vary or defer the terms of enrolment, fees and financial regulations’ at its discretion.

General Terms and Conditions All applications must be accompanied by the copies of all the required certificates, certified copies of the Passport and two passport sized photographs All students are required to be at least 18 years and must provide the documentary evidence that they satisfy the entry requirements of the course. All students must produce evidence of qualifications and/or reference letters from employers detailing dates of employment, position held and duties. Anyone found to have given false information or forged documents will be expelled from the college. All applicants/students on their arrival in the UK will have their prerequisites assessed by the college academic staff. Following the assessment the staff may at their discretion require the students to complete an access course successfully prior to joining their chosen course. Any applications for exemptions’ will be assessed by and granted only at the discretion of the staff. Any exemptions granted would be subject to condition for e.g. students wishing to join the second year of undergraduate study (or an HND) need to demonstrate successful completion of the first year (for instance an HNC and its associated course work). In all cases the decision of the academic staff is final. LSA reserve the right to change courses or cancel courses due to insufficient bookings. In the event of insufficient bookings, you will be placed on an alternative (and similar) course. If this subsequent course has insufficient bookings, we reserve the right to cancel the course and a full refund for course fees only will be given. In addition, the UKBA will be informed. When all monies are repaid our liability shall wholly cease. If the full payment for the course is made less than 30 days before the start date, the booking is not secured and LSA reserves the right to cancel the booking. Students are required to have at least 80% attendance rate each month. A student shall be deemed as having abandoned a course, if his or her attendance falls below the required 80%. Any student, who is not seen to be attending classes for 10 working days consecutively without any notification, will be terminated from LSA and reported to the authorities. Students are required to attend all lectures, take all tests and submit assignments set by their lecturers. Failure to adhere to these guidelines or deadlines may render the student liable to certain penalties

such as re-sits, which may in turn effect the students duration of studies, fees, completion etc. Students must inform the college of any change to their UK address and/or telephone number as well as any change in the Contact details of their Next of Kin. LSA reserves the right to keep detailed records on terminated students for reporting purposes to the Home Office or any other regulatory agencies for at least 5 years. Registration, deposit of monies and enrolment for any courses at LSA, constitutes a binding agreement with the student to follow the programme and pay the full course fees. Students wishing to transfer their course from one term to another due to extenuating circumstances acceptable to the college may do so but a notice of two weeks is required and there is an administration of £100.00. LSA reserves the right to alter dates, fees and any particulars in the brochure without prior notice. LSA accepts no legal liability in the case of accidents, illness, loss of or damage to personal effects and mail. Students will be asked to pay for any damage they cause the premises and/or property of the college or their accommodation arranged by the college. LSA reserves the right to expel any students for improper conduct or any conduct that interferes with the wellbeing of other students, staff or the reputation of the college. Course fees may be paid in instalment at the discretion of LSA and upon the signing payment plan document. Holidays will not be granted during the term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Any requests should be made in writing to the Academic Registrar. Students who wish to go on holiday must notify the Academic Registrar in writing at least one week in advance.

Financial Regulations INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENTS
The fees can be paid from the following sources: An employer or other recognised sponsor Student or his /her family Students who are unable to produce acceptable evidence of support from their sponsor will be liable for the payment of their fees The college reserves the right to accept a sponsor’s guarantee in a case where the guarantee is not acceptable it is the student’s responsibility to pay his/ her fees in line with our admission procedure.
Payment by student
Students who are on full time course lasting more than 5 months and are financing themselves may pay their tuition fees in a single payment at the time of enrolment or by instalments.
REFUNDS
According to LSA’s refund policy, the student tuition fees is non refundable. Fees once paid will not be refunded, however in the event of visa / entry clearance refusal, College may refund the fees after deducting the admin charges. Registration fee is non-refundable. Full refund of tuition fees will be made if the college is unable to offer an advertised course In order to claim a refund of tuition fees the student or sponsor must meet the following conditions: I. Advise the director of Admission in writing of withdrawal from the course 4 weeks before the start date of the course on the advertised start date or within a reasonable period thereafter. II. Complete and return the refund application form along with student card and student property in including all original documentation issued by the college. III. Overseas students or their sponsors must return all original documents (acceptance/enrolment letter, receipts etc) issued by the college and the proof of rejection of student visa (a letter issued by the British Embassy/High Commission or British Immigration Authorities confirming the refusal of visa/entry).
Overseas students living in the UK:
From the tuition fees paid £250.00 will be retained by the college and the balance of the fees deposits will be refunded if they meet condition I and II set above and if the college is satisfied that the student has not taken any advantage of college documents and references. This includes the arrival into or extension of stay in the UK, council tax and other benefits or services. Overseas students applying from Abroad
Tuition fees will be refunded after the deduction of administration cost of £250.00 only after they meet the conditions ( i, ii and iii) stated above. Should the student wish to appeal against an entry clearance/visa decision the college will provide documentation for the next available session at no extra cost if the student/sponsor does not apply for a refund. Refunds will not be given in the following situations: If not meeting the conditions set out above I , II, III If a student is dismissed for poor attendance or misconduct. If any fraud is detected in the process of applying for the visa If the visa is refused on the basis of a previous visa refusal If a student arrives in the UK and decides to change college If the student decides to defer their course If a student is refused re-entry to the UK if they leave the country during the course. Only in exceptional cases, at the discretion of the Directors, will a student be allowed to change college. In this case, the refund will only be paid directly to the new college and the student will be charged a £1500 cancellation fee. All refunds will take between four to eight weeks from the date all original documents required by the College are received. Refunds will be made to the person or organisation that initially made the payment.
OUTSTANDING LIABILITIES
The college will initiate the recovery of all outstanding fees or property at the earliest practical date after the liability has incurred. However if a student owes any fees (for example tuition fees) or is yet to replace or reimburse the college for, property lost or damaged by her or him, admission to the course will be refused after informal notice until the debt is discharged in full.
Exception arrangements
Special arrangements can be made where exceptional/ extenuating circumstances apply. These are at the discretion of the college.
ACCOMMODATION
Should the college be asked to arrange accommodation for a student a minimum of two weeks rent is required in advance by the college as a deposit in order to secure the students accommodation. This deposit is non-refundable should the student find alternative accommodation. LSA reserves all rights to change vary or defer the terms of enrolment, fees and financial regulations at its discretion.

Student Welfare at LSA Besides regular academic activities, LSA also offers the following services to its students:
AIRPORT PICKUP FACILITIES
The Academy offers airport pickup services. If a student requires this service they must provide the Academy with all their travel details – i.e. name of airline, flight number, date & time of arrival and name of the destination airport at least two weeks prior to their travel to UK. The student will be liable for any waiting time, if flights are delayed.
ACCOMMODATION
Although LSA has no accommodation facilities of its own, it has made arrangements with the local letting agents to provide students with accommodation with host families, in flats or shared accommodations. Students are advised to contact the college at 4 weeks prior to travel, to arrange accommodation. Student are strongly advised to email the request on studentwelfare@lsa-uk.org
MEDICAL FACILITIES IN UK
The National Health Service commonly known as NHS provides free medical facilities for its citizens and for those students who are living in the UK for on a course of studies that last longer then 6 months, All overseas students are entitled to enjoy this facility, subject registration with NHS. The Academy will provide guidance to students about registering with the NHS.
POLICE REGISTRATION
Police registration is mandatory for the students who are coming from abroad specifically for those coming from non commonwealth countries. Such students must report to local police station within 48 hours of arrival in UK and collect police registration certificate. Local police station means the nearby police station where he/she will be living during his/her study period.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
London’s transport system is managed by Transport of London and provides buses and trains for public use. All students are able to use public transport at a concessionary rate. Students can purchase a student travelcard, which will give them a 30% discount. The Academy will give all students an induction regarding the use of public transport in London. More information is available at www.tfl.gov.uk
in the UK. It is free of charge and initially valid for one academic year. The ID card will be renewed at the start of each academic year. The ID card will help in opening a student bank account, obtaining a library card from another library service provider and dealing with enquiries from law enforcing agencies etc. The ID card remains the college’s property and must be deposited in college if you are not studying or asked to do so by the college.
STUDENT BANKING
Under the existing rules, a student can open a student bank account with any bank. LSA will assist students in opening bank accounts, by providing procedural guidelines during induction.
WORKING WHILE STUDYING
As per the existing rules, international students studying for a graduate or postgraduate qualification are entitled to work up to 10 to 20 hours a week during the term time and additional hours during holidays. It is mandatory for students to obtain a National Insurance (NI) number, which is a pre-requisite to get a job in UK. LSA will assist students in obtaining an NI number.
FLEXIBLE PAYMENT OPTIONS
LSA allows students to pay their fees in instalments. Students are advised to contact LSA to draw up an agreement.
STUDENTS’ COUNSELLING
Students come from different parts of the world and belong to different cultural, social, political and financial backgrounds. Therefore, students are not always aware of UK cultural norms. LSA assists helps students to cope by providing induction sessions, advice/guidance and individual counselling. Students are encouraged to share their feelings, problems and difficulties with Student Welfare Officer, who will be happy to assist in solving the any problems.

LSA will provide the detailed information in the student induction Programme, which will be organised at the LSA prior to starting of the course.
STUDENT ID CARD
All students are entitled to a photo ID card from the Academy, as a proof of that they are registered students

Starting at the College The first week at the College will be spent going through enrolment, induction and orientation. This will help you to get settled into the College and into student life. This is also a very good opportunity to make new friends.
ENROLMENT
On the first day at the college we will look at Passport / Visa, the originals of the students’ qualifications and Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies CAS letter. At this stage you will have to clear any tuition fee payments inline with prior arrangements. Once this is done, we will enrol the students onto the college register and issue them a Student Identity Card. Students can obtain from the college, letters to open a bank account, travel card application (if applicable) and any such relevant documents upon request.
INDUCTION & ORIENTATION
Lsa organises the induction days prior to the start of the sessions to facilitate students in understanding about LSA, its staff, policies & procedures etc. Issues explain during the induction day: Explanation of the college structure. Explanation of the key roles played by course leaders and other members of the college

ARRIVING LATE
The absolute latest date that you can join your course is 28 days after your designated course start date. You should aim to arrive on time because students who arrive late for their course often find it difficult to catch up on the work they have missed. If you are late due to visa delays you may require a ‘Course Extension Letter’ confirming your delay. Please note that this can only be requested within 14 days of your start date. We cannot issue the extension beyond this date.

London Luton Airport is only 5 km from LSA and is currently the UK’s seventh largest airport. Furthermore Luton is only 30 miles north of London, so the capital is about 25 minutes on a fast train journey. Luton’s roots lie in the industrial and manufacturing areas - from hat making to car manufacturing. However, recent years have seen an expansion of the service industries with, among others, major airline and travel companies associated with the airport expanding their operations in the town. When do courses start?
We have three intakes every year, 1. Jan/Feb. 2. May/June 3. Sep/Oct Some short courses start every month and some of them every quarter (for UK and EU students only). However, admissions are processed throughout the year. More details are available on the www.lsa-uk.org.
How much minimum do I have to pay to enrol for LSA courses?
Students are responsible for payment of their course fees for each year of the course. An initial deposit of 50% of the first year course fees is required, in order for enrolment to be confirmed.
Do I have to pay any other cost in addition to my Tuition Fee? Students shall also incur additional costs (exam registration and examination fees) for professional courses, such as IAM, ACCA, LCM, ATHE, etc. If students are unable to make payments for fees or other charges by the specified deadlines, penalties will apply and they will be removed from the class register.
How do I apply for the UK visa?
International students require a visa to come to the United Kingdom. The procedure for applying for a student visa is available on the United Kingdom Border Agency website UKBA, in your local British High Commission or at the British Council information desk. Generally the following documents are required: An original full acceptance letter of admission from the LSA. This will be provided after payment of the due fees. Proof of sufficient funds to support your studies and staying in the UK. Sponsorship letter. Sponsor’s itemised bank statement for the last six months and sponsor’s source of income documents. Original educational certificates, previous qualifications and related certificates (evidence that you possess minimum qualification) of the students and must be submitted in English.

Am I allowed to work in the UK while I am Studying at LSA?

Will the college help me in obtaining an extension of my visa?
Yes, if you have already been studying here you can apply for an extension of stay for further studies in the UK – that is provided that you are enrolled on a full-time course with LSA.

Your spouse and any of your children under 18 may be able to apply to accompany you during your study period, provided that you can maintain and accommodate them adequately without recourse to public funds.
How much money/Funds do I need to show to the British Embassy/High Commission?
Applicants must provide evidence that they have sufficient funds to support their stay in the UK, including emergencies, without recourse to public funds. This must cover the total course fees, living expenses, food, travel, clothing and other general living expenses etc. This is important as recourse to public funds might have a detrimental effect on the person’s future immigration prospects. Bank statements, which clearly identify the holder together with a transaction and details of conversion rates at the approximate date of application, are also required.
What should I bring with me to London?
Most students say that the interesting thing about the weather in London is that it can change several times in one day. Bring a jacket and sweater even in summer and make sure that you have warm clothes for winter. An umbrella is also a good idea Passport size photographs are very useful for student cards, travelcards etc.

Luton is accessed directly from the M1 at Junction 10. The A1 is connected via the A505 and A602. From M1 (London Luton Airport exit), exit at Junction 10 and follow signs for Luton town centre and locate Stuart Street near by Luton Magistrate Court.
By Rail From London to Luton
First Capital Connect trains for Luton and Bedford leave from King’s Cross St Pancras International every 15 20 minutes. You should take a Northbound train. Get off at Luton (not at Luton Airport Parkway). The train terminates in Bedford.
From Luton to London
First Capital Connect services connect Luton with Bedford (23 min), London (34 min to King’s Cross St Pancras International; Farringdon; Barbican; Moorgate; City Thameslink; Blackfriars; and 50 min to London Bridge), East Croydon (64 min), Gatwick Airport (80 min) and Brighton (2 h) for the South Coast. Luton is also served by East Midlands Trains services from Sheffield and London King’s Cross St Pancras.

From the train station ticket office cross over the walkway towards Luton town centre. Go down the steps and turn right at the bottom, the Hat Factory should be on your right, follow the road down the hill. Cross over the road at the crossing, the Job Centre should be in front of you and continue towards The Mall shopping centre. Cross over the bus route and enter the shopping centre, go up the escalator and take a left at the top. Walk through the shopping centre and come outside into the Hi Street and follow directions towards the Town Hall. Keep walking towards the stuart street, turn left and pass two building on your Left you can find Temple Chambers.

Directions for International Students who are coming from Overseas King’s Cross St Pancras International Station (London)
If you are coming from Europe via Eurostar, you arrive at King’s Cross St Pancras International Station.The three London railway stations St Pancras International, St Pancras and Kings Cross are located very close to each other. They form a ‘hub’ where many London Underground ‘tube’ services and many national and international (Eurostar) train services stop or terminate. Trains for Luton and Bedford depart from King’s Cross St Pancras International.

At Heathrow the London Underground train station (Piccadilly Line) is located directly under the central bus station for terminals 1, 2 and 3, and is clearly signposted from all Terminals. Terminals 4 and 5 have their own, separate station. Underground services are available from around 05:30 to 23:30. Take the London Underground train, Piccadilly Line, from Heathrow to London. Change at King’s Cross St Pancras station onto the First Capital Connect train to Luton. Get off at Luton (not at Luton Airport Parkway).
2. From London Heathrow Airport by bus/coach
Take the National Express public coach service direct to Luton – this coach leaves from the Central Bus Station for Terminals 1,2 and 3, and from directly outside the terminal building for Terminals 4 and 5. You can buy a ticket (cost around 20 GBP) at the National Express ticket office in the Central Bus Station or directly from the driver. This is a high frequency service – there is a bus to Luton every hour 7 days a week from 06:00 to 23:00.
