Message from the President & Chairman AICS’s services resonate with the needy, especially the underserved and the under privileged, who need to cross the road to continue their journey. At our 15th anniversary celebration we reflect upon our services by revealing the qualitative and quantitative aspects of community health and well-being that we promote. We feel through serving we foster diversity, make people feel the fire in them kindled, giving them hope to see all rainbow colors through the prism of their eyes. The goal is to help all strengthen their resolve to feel their dreams are still achievable. AICS’s team of volunteers includes doctors, administrators, lawyers, managers, and other professionals. They all understand that volunteerism is a long-term investment in their values and their work empowers the communities to provide a mutual support-system. Let us take this opportunity to thank them all - our volunteers, partners, and supporters who constantly lend their time, talent, voice, and support to uplift the lives of many around us. Many of us in the community attended the series of 6 workshop sessions on SelfManagement of Diabetes and we cannot thank AICS enough. We feel such services have contributed towards an improved quality of life, enhanced self-empowerment, resulting in reduction in health care costs. For the seniors it promotes equitable aging with dignity, and extends an opportunity to build resilience in our professional and personal journeys. Your presence at our celebration is a testimonial that you believe in volunteerism which is a noble force, and you support the spirit of Community Service. On behalf of the President and the Chair of AICS we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your participation, collaboration and support. This is our community. We are serving our brothers and sisters, so let us think how we can become a solution by bridging the gap and promoting one united community. We believe that things we are passionate about lead to societal changes and are not random but are our collective callings. To quote Mark Twain: “Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see”. Kindness when consciously practiced, becomes a symbol of respect, values the receiver and at the same time broadens the frame of reference of our own lives. We thus begin to experience that True Receiving is in Giving, which energizes us to create a world where PEACE is the religion, LOVE is our language, and HARMONY is a way of living. Let us keep the spirit of Community Service strong. Let us strive to humanize this journey and learn to connect our dots. President - Dr. Suresh K. Gupta, MD Chairperson - Manjit S. Taneja

AICS MISSION Asian American Inter Community Service (AICS), a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization is dedicated to the health and well-being of the communities around us with a preferential focus on the under-served and hard-toreach population segments. Our Mission is to provide people with Awareness, Education and Knowledge our three pillars of community service. We strive to build up communities sufficiently aware and knowledgeable to develop abilities to prevent and manage diseases thus building up healthy and robust communities. The under-served and the hard-to-reach communities of different ethnic origins have barriers to access to health care and health education due to linguistic challenges, economic status, education level, mental health, sexual orientation, access to social media or by the geographical region of their residence.
VISION AICS strives to build a level of well-being in the surrounding population which possesses a rich diversity and have a common sense of identity where people socially interact without the barrier of prejudice, transcending the reach of equality to promote equity and reduce disparities in access to well-being.
GOALS A cornerstone of our activities is the exploitation of human experience which encourages accepting others who may look, learn, or behave differently from what is familiar to them. This living-life experience is an asset which will lead to positive outcomes embodied in promotion of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and reduction of disparities in the under-served population. The goals are accomplished through a set of health and wellness programs focused on disease prevention, empowering the individual to self-manage chronic diseases, ensuring everyone in the community is covered by health insurance, mental health and senior’s issues, prevention of HIV, immigration issues, etc. The expected outcomes are an improved quality of life, equity in mental health, reduction in hospital and ER visits, reduction in medical costs, improved social interaction and work-performance and an equitable aging with dignity.

Greetings from AICS Board
It has been a short but long and eventful journey during the past 15 years. Our mission has been to provide people with Awareness, Education and Knowledge – our three pillars of community service. We strive to build up communities sufficiently aware and knowledgeable to develop abilities to prevent and manage diseases thus building up robust communities with plenty of health and wellness. The journey of the past 15 years has been one of dynamic transitions in time. The scenario in which we live, the political climate and decisions shape fundamental issues in life relating to health and welfare of our communities which is also a basic human right. Looking back down the road what triggered the activities and programs of AICS was the lack of health insurance coverage and basic health care for 43 million people in the country. It may have been due to non-affordability, non-inclusion in job benefits or lack of knowledge of how to access. Recruiting volunteer physicians, holding community health fairs laid the platform from where the successful journey began. The Affordable Care Act was legislated in 2011 and implemented in 2013 which provided access to health care for all lawful residents in the country. AICS moved with the times. On the one hand we became champions in Affordable Care and Medicaid enrollments and geared towards disease prevention and self-management of chronic disease symptoms. In the process we have touched the lives of thousands of people who needed the benefit. Looking at our record we have been serving communities across the board irrespective of race, ethnicity, sexual preferences, color or religion. Through this we see our contribution to racial equity and social justice. We came to believe in “Growth Through Partnership”. We have seen the concept and essence of volunteerism blossom, without which we would not be where we are today. Our volunteers have assumed the roles of the cherished pillars of support which are:
Awareness, Education and Prevention. On behalf of the AICS team which includes physicians, researchers, health care professionals, executives, administrators, business owners, realtors, financial professionals, lawyers, and others we sincerely thank all our partners and members of different communities who have come forward to join the march. We also would like to profoundly thank all foundations, County and State Governments for the continued help with financial and other resources to help realize the benefits that we have been able to offer to the most-needy among us.

A Volunteer (Poem) Volunteer with AICS We are here for a very special and noble purpose. None of us would be here if we did not believe in serving, giving the community back, and thanking our mentors, coaches, well-wishers, and especially the Almighty for putting us on this path to serve humanity.
I dedicate this poem to all self-less Community Service providers who believe - We Rise by Lifting Others. Full of passion - is – a true volunteer Stores immense patience – lightening burden of another Like a candle - Consume self - good volunteers Endure the pain – to illuminate way for others “Candle remains burning – who knows where the circle ends It’s expanse spreads to eternity – by the love a volunteer tends” Lightens the path – like a street lamp pole Makes the journey pleasant – reveals each pot hole The traveler sees impediments – benefits from the light Shares it further – lessens others’ plight To make a societal change – this world a better place Does, what it takes – to see a smile on a face To make it right – in absence of pain For services to propagate – not in vain Strategy is applied for mysteries to unravel Magic of the influence is absolutely immeasurable Holds the gavel - always nurturing to heights sublime Stimulates the oppressed, be it ordinary or a complex mind
Thank you very much for your Services & Support.
